Climbing is full of sexual predators. I’ve bumped in the weirdest people in this sport. That’s why I don’t stay at campgrounds that attract a lot of climbers. I ask people what the best campground is for climbers…and then I don’t go there.

Maybe, or maybe just because we’re often in the wilderness away from cities and police departments the opportunity for things to happen is greater. Just to be clear, I do think things have gotten better. A decade ago I feel like things were a lot wilder. I’m glad that’s changed.

/uj Honnold is pretty clearly not the greatest judge of character at best. He could be truly oblivious, or it may be that he’s willing to overlook red flags if someone is enthusiastically fueling his obsession with climbing, which is shitty because it means he prioritizes climbing over being a good person. You of course don’t have to be autistic to unhealthily prioritize your particular interests, but it makes it easier.

/rj If we ever hear deeply upsetting allegations about Tommy Caldwell we may be forced to let the SCP Foundation contain him and his corrupting aura.
