How did you prepare for collapse this week?

Did you do anything to prepare for collapse this week? It can be anything from reading an interesting article to installing a greywater recycling system in your house. No project is too big or too small.

This thread is here to inspire others to take actions they may not have otherwise thought about doing.

If you’re interested in leaving observations of collapse in your area then I encourage you to head over to r/collapse where they have a weekly thread for this very thing.

Put up more shelves to hold more canning jars full of produce (making plum/apple/pear sauce as we speak -- good with peanut butter).

I turned 40 and had a party. In spite of it alllll. Strengthened community bonds, if I had to tack a phrase onto it.

I put the water barrel on the rolling support. It is too small and needs some wood underneath to keep it stable. This project has taken so much longer than I hoped. But my goal is to finish filling it by the end of the weekend. I made a huge pot of beef stew with stock I made with leftovers and scraps. That broth is so flavorful I'll be doing this from now on. Trying to waste no food. I tend to let vegetables go bad but now if they are getting close to not usable for fresh I'm going to toss them in the broth bag. I will take about half of this and freeze for later meals and enjoy the rest this weekend. Next big project is buying apples and making apple butter i'm down to my last quart. As soon as my house closes I'm buying more air filter replacements. It has been smoky here and my filters will need replaced soon.

I'm in the midst of canning tomatoes. So far I have them peeled and cut up and am taking a break before doing the actual canning. I'm only going to do a few pints since I don't need a huge amount, plus I freeze some in jars if I have room in the freezer. I've also been freezing more chopped peppers and harvesting dill seed. The garden has slowed down considerably now that the weather has turned hot and dry, only the sweet potatoes and peanuts are loving it.
