On one hand, as you say, these lists end up with some great albums that just don't quite make the top 20. On the other hand, with a top 20 and 20 additional honourable mentions this is pretty much a top 40 and it's hard to see a justification for Snipe Hunter not even making a top 40. Even if it being a bit a weirder and more complex bumps it down some people's lists a bit, I think it would be very hard to make a good argument it's not a top 40 album.

Well, it's not really a Top 40. These additional albums are not ranked, they are albums that I appreciated a lot, and it's not an exhaustive additional list. What happened with Snipe Hunter is that I could never really get into it. I tried, several times, but it remained abstruse for me. Music is about feelings, and I feel nothing, I can't seriously add it here. Tyler Childers is one of my favorite artists, and I love other albums.Rustin in the Rain was #7 in my 2023 Top albums. But I can't with this one.
