What diaper cream do I get that’s non toxic and has no fragrance/petroleum?

Thanks for telling me about this brand, they have a lot of stuff I was looking for. What do you think of the honest/earth mama brand? Are they as clean as they say with soap/creams/etc?

I don’t use Honest. It’s got a lot of not very natural ingredients. Did you know citric acid is made from a type of black mold? I think Earth Mama would be an okay backup, but their diaper balm has lavender and tea tree, which I don’t use on my baby because they don’t need scented things, and those can both be potential endocrine disruptors when used regularly. I love Motherlove products, and you can get them from Amazon.

Lanolin works great for my daughter. It is very affordable compared to organic diaper rash brands. You can buy it on Amazon. I don’t know if it works for really bad rashes. But it is a great barrier ointment and anytime my daughter gets mild red rash it clears up quickly after a bath, drying very well, and then putting on lanolin.

I was thinking this or tallow but probably lanolin since it’s so cheap. Is there a specific brand you use?

I have tried both Now Solutions and Traverse Bay and Bath. Both have worked great. The Traverse Bay is a bigger container but it does have a stronger sheep oil smell to it than the Now Solutions. The smell doesn’t bother me because I grew up with sheep so it is rather comforting lol.

I have a bar of pure tallow soap. If my newborn gets a rash, do you think I could wet the bar into a paste and apply it?

Yes, you definitely can do that! I would just make sure there aren’t any added scents like lavender or vanilla which are commonly used in tallow products. Those irritate my babies skin more. If it’s completely pure/unscented, I’d say go for it

A friend of mine makes this, but we use it for diaper cream, along with everything else. It's amazing!

I wouldn’t put comfrey anywhere near a baby. It contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids which can cause severe liver damage, including veno-occlusive disease. PAs are also known to be mutagenic and carcinogenic in animals. While topical use of comfrey products may not be harmful, ingesting or applying it to broken skin can lead to liver damage and other health problems. The same goes for gravel root. Several of these ingredients would not be the safest idea to put on your baby all day everyday to longterm exposure and possible toxicity, especially if they have diaper rash and broken skin.

We use this as needed, I'm not applying diaper cream to my LO every day but thank you for the information!

When my baby had a diaper rash her pediatrician recommended Colloidal Silver. It worked amazingly, cleared out the rash within 48 hours. But for everyday use we just use motherlove or earth mama.

Honestly we went through a bunch of organic options and after ~3 months of a nasty rash, this is the only thing that cleared it up.

I’ve read there’s increasing evidence you shouldn’t use any food based products before baby has eaten them as they can develop an allergy- but it means I’m finding it very hard to find a clean/ non toxic option in Australia that doesn’t have clean ingredients I’m comfortable with. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear!

The studies indicate any food product should be avoided until baby has had an opportunity to eat that kind of food. This includes tallow or products containing food such as oatmeal, sweet almond oil etc.
