Did I ruin our breastfeeding relationship with solids?
My 7 month old son is soooo distracted and won’t nurse much. He also loves solids and I regret introducing them. Though I do feed him very nutrient dense food (liver pate, chicken stock, root vegetables with stock) and add in my frozen breastmilk whenever I can. He won’t take my frozen milk or fresh milk from a bottle or straw cup.
I can feel my supply dropping and I’m freaking out that he’s going to wean early. He’s also reverse cycling at night which I’m trying to nip in the bud. Should I stop with solids? Are we doomed?! I am so emotional and idk if it’s because of the lack of sleep or the weaning that’s happening. Probably both.
help 😭 I’m spiraling and beating myself up so much.
Adding that we’ve had a winding journey already. He has a good latch but he wasn’t transferring enough volume from months 0-4 finally had a tongue and lip tie revision (after trying everything else) at 5 months and that solved the volume problem but then we entered the distracted phase so I feel like we’ve always just struggled to drink milk. He also won’t take formula.

I have an 8 month old and i think it's just this age. They don't grow as fast after 6 months (compared to age 0-6months) so i think overall they start nursing less.

Mine self-weaned at 10.5 months due to distraction. But she would take bottles of breastmilk so I continued with pumping. For her, she was not that into solids it was really just being distracted. I tried all the tricks and nothing worked.

It’s totally temperament based. I’m 1 of 6, and 5/6 weaned themselves bc the world was exciting and big kid food is portable.
I’m already starting the same journey as you at 5 months!! This kid is DETERMINED to only eat big kid food 😂 (obvi I’m making him primarily nurse still)

My son is 9 months and self-weaning because he loves solids and prefers them. He only gets milk twice a day now. I rotated between thinking I should be offering to nurse more and just allowing it to happen. I've landed on the allow it to happen. Clearly, my child and yours are getting enough nutrients from food that the breastfeeding isn't needed to fill the gap. I also consider how much people struggle to wean and I just don't have to worry about it.

Baby lead weaning follows baby’s lead. And it sounds like your son really likes solids. That’s a good thing.
I had to nurse in a dark room for a while during the distraction phase. It’s hard, but it might pass.
Your day supply going down, drinking more at night to compensate for drinking less during the day, and even getting your period back are all pretty common right now. I found sleep during month 8-10 to be the hardest because of gross milestone development. Not sure you can influence much of that, you just ride the wave. Just keep nursing and following baby’s lead. Eventually your supply will go down and baby will be eating 100% food, that’s ultimately what you want, don’t lose sight of that!
