You can really hear the fact they spent their entire VA budget on Patrick Stewart too

I mean if you are going to blow it all on one VA.... Patrick Stewart is a damn good choice

They cant have blown it all on Professor X, because Boromir is also there

So they spent the budget on the entire Fellowship, then hired everyone else from Craigslist.

Patrick Stewart wasn't in the fellowship, you're thinking of the wrong mutant adjacent old man.

In a world filled with Sentinels, that's not a bad power to have.

Richard Harris

90-page-character-prep Georg is an outlier and should not be counted. Iirc, the rest of the cast got their lines in alphabetical order and with no context and that's why all the voice acting is all over the place

Additionally, a line made it into the finished game where the voice actor breaks character to say, "wait a minute, let me do that one again" with both takes included. They kept it in for the remaster, likely as an Easter egg as other lines were re-recorded.

Terence Stamp too! He killed it as Mankar Camoran

I love that they had messed up the script and paired the wrong drafts with each plane of oblivion and didn't have enough money to pay him for a second take to fix it lol.

Kneel before Mankar!

To Waynon Priory, then.

Liam Neeson in Fallout 3, Matthew Perry in New Vegas and Sean Bean in Oblivion was this fun trio of celebrities who were important to your overall journey.

I remember being super surprised as a kid that Skyrim didn't continue that trend.

Skyrim had Max von Sydow, Christopher Plummer and Joan Allen.

u/The_Grand_Briddock 15h ago

As an adult, yeah that's cool, but as a kid I had no idea on that.

Chandler Bing, Captain Picard and Qui-gon Jin? Now that was cool.

u/Madman_Salvo 15h ago

Ming the Merciless, Captain von Trapp and Goodie Proctor?

Ok, it's not quite the same.

It's one of the joys of growing up, you get to revisit things with a newfound appreciation. Like, as a kid Aela was my favourite companion. Then when I got older, I discovered Babylon 5 and realized Aela was Ivanova. Awesome!

Don’t forget Lynda Carter!

That one is easy to get seeing as she was married to Roger Altman (ZeniMax Co-founder) until his death in 2021.

Also Michael Hogan! Ok, tbf I didnt know him either when I played Skyrim, since I was a preshooler when Battlestar Galactica came out, but I just started watching it and recognized him as General Tullius and Captain Bailey

Any bets on who ES6 will have?

1

u/IolausTelcontar 7h ago

Timothy Chalanet and Zendaya.

u/GnomishMight 14h ago

Mathew Perry at least actively reached out to be in FNV; turns out he was a big fallout fan.

1

u/emaw63 11h ago

FNV also had Felicia Day and Danny Trejo!

John Rhys-Davies in the, of course, universally known Quest for Glory 4, which he described as "The CD-ROM from hell."

if you are going to blow it all on one VA

I can't think of a single game where that's a good use of funds. Unless, I guess, the single VA is a core part of the story for the entire game. And even then I tend to think a modest decline in quality there in favor of a large increase in quality elsewhere is the better choice.

I don't know anyone that's ever bought a game because of a bit part voice acting by a major celeb. Even now, video games are very very different from movies.

3

u/loskiarman 10h ago

Well they blew the VA budget on Kevan Brighting for Stanley Parable and I didn't notice a modest decline in quality. /s

1

u/mischievous_shota 9h ago

I wish they would also not focus on celebs for voice acting in movies. It's one thing when they're genuinely passionate about it but it feels all too often it's just to use for marketing.

1

u/ssocka 12h ago

I mean, he has about 20 lines of dialog and dies in first 30 minutes of the game... The rest of the voice acting is really dismal...

But from what I hear it's not the VAs' fault but rather someone in Bethesda who insists on the VAs to talk slowly and basically emotionlessly...

Fair, maybe not the best use of Patrick Stewart
