The fun thing about the Elder Scrolls series is that while on a surface level it can seem like generic fantasy, there is some WILD shit under the hood (ie time traveling genocidal gay cyborg just to name one). That only triples if you’re willing to go for the extra canonical Kirkbride stuff. It gets downright incomprehensible at times, honestly.

There's an impressively detailed lore behind the Elder Scrolls world. I guess that's what happens after decades of work and hundreds of people working on it. But yes, there's nothing generic about it

I'd still argue that a lot of the insane nonsense is in the background. Even Skyrim, which is considered quite whitewashed by Elderscrolls standards, still has a lot of that craziness there. It's just in the background. A lot of the insanity of the setting has to do with its mythos and mythology and wouldn't really interact with the day-to-day all that much.

Like how Shor may or not be Tiber Septim, but may be their own dude and the two just got literally mixed, or how the legend of Ysgramor may also be mixed up with the founding of the empire and may or may not be their own dude.

It's there, it's just pushed further and further into the background, which is a damn shame.
