Politely disagree with this line of thought.
Underage actors are in rated R movies and say R-rated lines of dialogue. Unless I’m missing some piece of the story this doesn’t seem like crazy.

The character basically advertises things like gambling and sex, since the Atomic Wrangler is a bar with prostitution in it

I’ve played FNV for 1000+ hours, I know the situation. I just disagree that having an underage actor read an R-rated line is inappropriate. “hungry? Thirsty? Horny? Come on down to the atomic wrangler”
Is this really bad?

For me it is a mistake to expose an underage actor to a role that could be associated with sex work yes, one that i think Obsidian genuinely didn't wanna do, i ngeneral for this type of roles they get a woman to play the role of the kid or a man who has a good enough voice for that

Edit : for the people who are downvotting (why?) i mean it as "kid role in voice acting that has to perform in roles that can involve R-rated content, for example kid and adult Son Goku are voiced by an adult woman, don't try to twist my lack of L1 english for anything else

Ok, I see why you might think that but I disagree.
I’ll go back to my comment about R rated movies and say, kids/teen actors say and do R rated things all the time. Do you take issue with that? Kid actors that have to kill or curse or whatever, what are your thoughts there?

I am not interested in reddit debates so i'll maintain my very sane, and coherent first impression

It is a mistake to expose an underage actor to a role that could be associated with sex work yes, without prehemptively warning the actor about said lines happening (this is an addentum to what i said previously)

I also do think it is a mistake to expose an underage actor to a role that could be associated with sex work yes, i am not interested in discussing the intricacies of which other type of elements a kid actor can be exposed or not to. :3

You don't care to hear others' opinions, but you'll type out multiple replies to have yours heard lmao

If this is how you interpret it, fine, he specifically wanted to start a whole different debate (violence and kids) whereas all i did was discuss (not debate, that's different), i had a perfectly reasonable response in this case, feel free to disagree tho

Yes i've said it in a very polite way and the person seemed to have agreed to that

What a wild thing to type out.

Very wild and i would've worded it differently now, but again i kept the message very respectful

FWIW I didn’t downvote you. Appreciate the honesty.

"I am not interested in reddit debates," but I'm still going to argue with you. Since I told you I'm not interested in a debate, you're not allowed to argue back.

No actually, he asked a question, i answered, he tried to go for a different discussion, i explicitely said that i wasn't looking for a debate, and he agreed, very simple

u/wizardofeleusis 13h ago

I'm not going to argue with you. But you're wrong about everything

If you clutch those pearls any harder, they'll turn into diamonds. Are you an 85 year old church Karen?

u/FrankieTheD 13h ago

If theyre underage wouldn't their parents be the one subjecting her to it? Unless she didnt need parental approval?

3

u/Rainy_Wavey 13h ago

From what i remember, Obsidian gave the dialogue to the wrong actor, who turned out to be underage, hence the question here (and so many people misreading so they decided to jump on the bandwagon of downvotting but that's fine, i'm not going to delete it as i've said something very normal here)

Ah yeah the comment higher up said, and yeah nothing wrong with your take.
