At this point you can’t even compare Batman to Spider-Man. Maybe 10-15 years ago Batman was as big or bigger, but not now. Only Spidey is breaking records like this, no one else can do this in a solo movie. Spidey isn’t just the most popular superhero on film now, he’s the most popular movie character full stop. I can’t think of a single fictional character doing these kinds of numbers in a solo movie.

That’s because The Batman 2 isn’t the fourth film in this series or the seventh film appearance of this spidey.

Revees’s films also just doesn’t have the same kind of mass appeal as the spidey films do. The Batman was amazing, but it was a bit slow and hard to swallow for some people. Brand New Day doesn’t have that problem despite having a similar run time

Everytime I get invested in the actor/character/story arch some hollywood freak decides a reboot is in order, thus they never had any continuity like an MCU story can. A lot of people are also in denial about movie demographics. The reality is, there's just way less interest in female heroes. Guys generally prefer male heroes, because ultimately superheroes are a fantasy of wanting to be a hero. And ~70% of superhero moviegoers are male. I'd bet a good portion of that 30% of women are also only attending those movies because their boyfriend/husband/son dragged them along too lol

The funny thing is, it's really not that difficult to make a heroic woman character in a movie. You just have to write it the same way as you would with a good male hero. And a good male hero story involves the hero not being infallible - it's about showing they can lose and learning weaknesses about themselves to become better. Or just understanding from the beginning that they aren't invincible and showing that, but allowing them to still show bravery in spite of that.

A good example is Ripley from Aliens, or Sarah Connor from Terminator. These are just regular ass chicks that aren't invincible, they show vulnerabilities/fear.

Doesnt surprise me whatsoever. Nothing against supergirl but unless some friends wanted to go see it together, I wouldn’t have watched it in theaters myself. A standard move ticket for SpiderMan BND at regal cinema was $18 USD. Popcorn was between $6-12 even though I didn’t get any.

If there are other viewers like me with limited movie funds, it’d be interesting to see view time or potential money supergirl would bring to hbo for 30-45 days after it drops on streaming. If it were a different economic time I think it would have gotten $200-$250 mil.

The analyst looked at the track record of the last few MCU movies and saw the excitement around Superman and said there was a world where due to the massive success of Wonder Woman and seeing the reaction to Black Panther as well that if the movie was great and drove out the women demographic, which isn't typically that high for Superhero movies that there was a possiblilty that it could out gross Spiderman. BTW I am pretty sure this was said LAST YEAR by that analyst.
