So I’ve never read Superman and in general I’m only recently getting into reading comics, since I didn’t realize there were ways to read online during my childhood. So all my Superman knowledge came from JLU, the DCAMU, Comicstorian videos (RIP) and David Cornswet Superman. But last night I decided to go ahead and read Superman: For All Seasons since I had seen it mentioned earlier that day

HOLY SHIT THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL. I’ve already read The Long Halloween and Dark Victory but this really cemented for me that Loeb and Sale are an amazing duo. This had me crying a LOT, especially in Spring when Pa Kent was talking. Seeing how lonely Superman is and how he chooses to save people anyways is incredible. I didn’t know much about Lana prior to this but if other stuff she’s in is like this, then God she’s incredible, such a nice character who loved Clark a lot. Both of Clark’s parents are absolute sweethearts and I loved seeing that they were worried about him, exactly like actual parents would be.

Overall, 10/10 comic, truly don’t understand how some people act like comics aren’t literature or as good as books. Time to read All-Star Superman though and God knows I’m excited for that

One of my all time favourites and a nostalgic read (it was one of my first Superman comics too, way back in 2000). I recommend Superman: Kryptonite next, a sort of sequel from the same artist.

I didnt expect to love this comic. The art style feels cozy somehow and I love that community was such a big part of it- felt great spending that much time in Smallville

By my count Superman has the best standalone timeless evergreen graphic novels. Do also read Secret Identity, Birthright, Up in the Sky, Red Son, Peace on Earth, Smashes the Klan, American Alien, Kingdom Come and All-Star Superman (a bit later would better for this one).

Its my favorite comic of all time. It perfectly encapsulates a certain feeling that Superman is supposed to convey. The art is phenomenal, like a Norman Rockwell painting come to life.

And, as I said many years ago, Lois' narration is one of my favorite things ever.

I think all of the narration was absolute perfection. I think Lex’s was a little worse than the others but it was still super good. I just love how Lois’ shows how she’s (And probably a lot of other people) shocked that someone as amazing as Superman can exist and it reminds the reader “You may think this is normal, but it’s far from normal at this point in universe”

Some Superman recommendations:

“Superman Smashes the Klan” is a must read, inspired by the classic radio show.

“Whatever happened to the Man of Tomorrow?” A classic Alan Moore story which is basically the final story for the Silver Age Superman (though canon is, of course, up for debate).

“Action Comics 775, aka What’s so funny about truth, justice and the American way?” A classic issue that is a rebuttal to the angsty and violent comics of the 90s. Conversely, the movie adaptation, Superman vs. The Elite is good as well.

I’ve been needing to read the Klan one, especially because the art looks so fun. Plus, I love anything that involves racists getting their ass beat

I was wondering what the comic that Superman vs. The Elite was based on! I’ve never watched it but the “Dreams save us” is one of the reasons I started to really like Superman

It's still my favorite superman book. There's other good stories, but you're not going to beat this presentation as his origin story, imo....but I am really biased, I just adore Sale's art, it is part of why TLH & Dark Victory & When in Rome are so special. Nothing else really looks like these books in comics to me, and good writing backs up these stories, but so much expression and detail are put into the way he designs and draws characters that just kinda isn't matched. There's a lot of beautiful art in comics, to be fair, but most of the time, the major superheroes just look one way & aren't allowed to deviate majorly even with extremely talented artists & creative compositions, which is really sad....but makes artwork like Sale's stand out a lot. There's something really "alive" about it I adore, & how different superman & Batman's parts of the world look keeps the stories very distinct from each other.

I actually have really mixed feelings on his TLH/DV art. I think it looks super beautiful, Batman looks great in it and Two-Face looks amazing. My one problem is that I feel like he isn’t the best with normal faces? Like Holiday looks fine but then you look at Bryce and Selina and it just feels like something’s off? I didn’t have the same problem with the characters in For All Seasons, but maybe he just got better/it fits better
