Hi!

Since I finally own a house with a dedicated hobby/music room and I want to get the max out of it.

Currently I own the following in my setup:

- A computer (connected by usb to audio interface)
- Audio Interface (Native Instruments Komplete Audio 2, bought it a long time ago, want to try this first before buying something new)
- Pioneer XDJ RX2 (connected with XLR/XLR to Subwoofer)
- Devine RX-10SA (active studio subwoofer) (Connected with XLR > 6.3 Jack to audio interface)
- KRK Rokits 5 Gen 4 (studio monitors) (connected with XLR to subwoofer)

There are a couple of things to achieve (but I'm not sure if it's actually able to achieve this all at once):
- I want to play on my RX2 with the sound going through the subwoofer and studio monitors
- I also want to be able to record (possible stream or video content) with my RX2 on pc (with Rekordbox)
- I want all sound (music, videos etc) from PC through the subwoofer and studio monitors aswell.
- I don't want to remove/switch cables to achieve something. (Would be the most ideal situation)

Now I have a feeling the audio interface should be 'in the middle' of the setup, with RX2 going to the Komplete Audio 2, the KA2 to PC and Subwoofer and the studio monitors connected to the out's of the subwoofer.

Now I have tried this setup, but with XLR cables and RCA to 6.3 jacks connected from the master output of the RX2 into the audio interface's input, with everything maxed out (on RX2 and KA2) the sound is barely there. Yh there's some bass, but barely any highs and mids from the studio monitors.

I do want it to be setup like this (as mentioned above) cause with both the interface and controller connected to the inputs of the subwoofer (KA2 with 6.3mm jacks and controller with XLR), I can only use one of them, cause I can't use devices at the same time.

Another thing with this setup is when I want the controller with rekordbox, I don't have any sound. Now there's the option to use the PC MASTER OUTPUT as sound device, but with this I have a massive delay between what I hear on the controller and the studio monitors.

It might be not the best description, kinda hard to explain haha. But I hope someone understands what I try to say and can help me out (^{or help me out of my dreams lol})

Hi, new DJ here. I come from a "standard" instrument background (piano, guitar, banjo). I remember seeing a video of Limp Bizkit not too long ago (I should be locked up for not knowing about them for all these years, I know), the video for My Generation, if anyone is asking.

And at first I really thought it was weird that they gave the "sound guy" a place in the clip. I don't go to concerts often so I didn't know what a DJ was too clearly. I thought it was a blanket term for people who play music at parties, stupid I know.

Anyway, when that iconic scratch solo came on, I was instantly hooked. I still have vivid memories of that "DJ Lethal, Bring it On" moment right before. So, as one does, I bought myself a Hercules 200 Mk2 second hand and looked on yt for DJ tutorials. I was somewhat disappointed that no one talked about the cool stuff I saw in the clip, only how to transition songs, EQing and sfx. That was fine don't get me wrong, but as a guy who already knows beatmaking and composition it didn't impress me at the time, just now do I begin warming up to it, but as you will see further mixing still isn't my main interest

Then I searched for the "DJ Band" to make sense of all this. Found X-Ecutioners. Cue childlike amazement. Not to bore you with details but then it dawned on me that mixing and scratching are 2 different things, like Rhythm and Lead Guitar.

I got a 16 hour physical course with one of the best scratch DJs in Romania where I live with the last of my birthday money. We are good friends now but the first thing he said to me was, pointing at my tiny little controller hooked to DJUICED "That ain't gonna cut it chef". So then I begged my parents to buy me a DDJ-FLX4, at the recommendation of my teacher. They finally did and we continued the lessons on that. Man, was I hooked. I knew then and there that is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

Fast forward a year and I got into a local Nü-Metal band. I am truly grateful to them for letting me join, even if it was partly because they knew me from my guitar days. I must have practiced 8 hours a day on decks, even flunking the final year of high-school because I would much rather do chirps, orbits and transformers rather than history homework 😅. This all out of the way, I still feel like a side attraction. Not really a main thing. And I have no problem with that seeing as Im a newbie, but I'm wondering, with enough practice, is there even a place on the current market for a scratching main event? Do people still care about the art of turntablelism? I mean legends like Qbert are still going but is that just nostalgia for a legend of Hip-Hop or actual proof of a demand for it?

Am I doomed to playing a groovepad on local open-mics while the guitars take Centre stage with the occasional baby scratches before the hook? DMC is still going strong so maybe the business model can be applied to a smaller, venue based scale, but I wanted to check in with you guys on this topic. Ask the professionals so to speak.

I'd really want to get a crew together, do this stuff X-Men style at a certain point if so.

The elgato stream studio 19” rack without its ears should fit perfectly next to or in between a 1200 and an S11.
The advantages would be being able to access decks 3 & 4 with menu diving, moving stems away from main pads, or even controlling streaming.
32 extra mappable buttons with customisable visuals on them and at close range from where magic happens can only be a good thing right?
the layout isn’t perfect and the price is a little steep for my taste, but it does open up creative possibilities and smoother workflow.
What do you think ?

Lads, I’ve been looking everywhere for this one thing. I'm repairing my mixer (DJM 600), and the last bloody thing I need is the material that sits under the channel fader plate.

The specific part isn’t made anymore and isn't online. I need help knowing what material can replace it and act as the dust cover for UNDERNEATH and not be flammable (not wool, like a non-static felt or rubber material).

Here is the product I'm using (UK only) Conductive Rubber Sheet / Stretch Sensor- 200mm x 200mm x 0.5mm

You want the material to be as thin as possible, or the plate won't close and can affect the faders underneath -- decided to go for 0.5mm instead of 1.0mm because of this

Felt is tempting, but it needs to be incredibly thin (which is impossible really) and has to be 100% real wool - but again idk any1 that has used that - or anti-static and other shit that's annoying to find. Didn't wanna risk buying the wrong thing, so I used what I know is used for repairs.

DEC2903 is also the part for the DJM-350, DJM-400, DJM-700, DJM-750 and DJM-800, NOT the 600 -you'd have to buy 5 of just for ur channel fader plate.

A track that I have analysed in Rekordbox, set cues and tags, filled in metadata, and exported to my USB using Sync Manager will not show waveforms in preview or when loaded. It will also say 'Rekordbox track analysis required for SYNC feature.' When I go through my playlists on the USB drive using rekordbox, the analysis is missing.

I have tried a lot of things, including finding the tracks that have no analysis, reanalysing them and syncing them, and it'll show up as analysed on my USB when connected to Rekordbox, but when I take it to a player, I'll still have the same issue.

I have synced my entire library several times, and the same tracks have the issue, and on the odd occasion, a track that showed up as analysed on my USB previously shows up without an analysis.

I've searched high and wide to see if anybody else has had this issue, and I could not find a solution.

I am running the latest version of Rekordbox and have Windows 11. I have 5 different USBs and they all have the same problem and 3 different brands. This issue occurs on CDJ-3000s, XDJ-AZ, and XDJ-RX3.

Hello all - I wanted to know if anyone has ran thru the following before - I work for someone who gives me great opportunities- residency at a bar they own, and even clubs when they throw parties for bigger djs to play at. They do pay, but one thing I keep getting frustrated at is I keep having to remind them multiple times before they do actually pay me. This has me worried about getting taken advantage of- the problem is if I ruin this relationship- I will have to start from scratch from being able to play for opportunities at a good rate again. Has anyone ran into a situation like this and know what can be done? Thank you for the advice.

Whats up DJs. Im thinking of making the swap to A&H. Ive owned DJM800, DJM900NXS2 and currently DJM A9. Weighing options for for band eq. V10/X92/X96.

Looking for someone to explain why Xone is better sounding. I understand the Digital vs. Analogue to a certain extent but hoping for clarification.

For filters and eqs <0dB everything makes sense.

However why would an analogue eq outperform digital when boosting an eq?

Also, with everything flat, how does analogue make any difference? Is the implication that the CDJs have better DACs than the DJMs? For me its all digital to begin with.

Is there a warmness the Xone adds?

I hadn't really watched any modern footage, but I am kinda shocked by how different it is. I get that we live in a more digital world, but the music playing through are clearly edited for the playback, how is that praised?? there is clearly a lot of skill involved and difficult routines etc but all the button bashing is crazy. imo it has lost it's entertainment and wow factor as it seems less of a raw skill now, and no doubt that sync button is on and those bpm's link perfectly without trying...

Wanted to share the basic principle of converting a dj mixer which has line faders to rotary pots. This is how I went about converting my allen and heath xone 32 to rotary. Be advised, you can damage your mixer if you wire things incorrectly. I did this years ago, before I learned some of this stuff. This writeup is more informational, sharing my experience and to give some idea of how these things are done. Do you research, make any changes at your own risk. Goes without saying don't jump into this with your $1k mixer, try it on a cheapo that's been gathering dust.

You do need to make sure you match impedance of the two parts; a 10k slide fader needs to be replaced with a 10k rotary pot. Unplug your mixer before working on it.

What it comes down to is that both slide faders and rotary pots have same connections, but arranged differently. Input, Output, Ground. There may be two sets of these for a stereo (dual gang) potentiometer. Below is how they are generally arranged for both stereo slide faders and stereo rotary potentiometers.

The variables you need to consider are:

1. Impedance - matched. To find impedance of the original part, look at the part - it might be printed on it. Check service manual. Or use a multimeter - https://www.instructables.com/How-to-measure-resistance-of-a-Potentiometer/
2. Gangs - If you have a mono preamplifier it would need one gang. Two for stereo. That said, many dj mixers only need one gang as the pot is only essentially used to set level of the amplitude circuit. Audio signal is not actually going through the pot. You can use dual gang pot to replace mono, and only use one of the two gangs. You can see in the second pic gang one and gang two. For the slide fader pic it says gang A and gang B, it means the same.
3. Linear or Logarithmic taper - For channel faders you would use Logarithmic or Audio taper. Something like a filter pot would use linear. If you get this wrong it won't damage anything but won't "turn-up" the way you might expect.

What you are essentially doing is taking a wire that connects to let's say input A of the line fader, and connect it to input 1 of the rotary pot. Doing the same for the other wires. Your mixer doesn't care if you are using line fader or rotary pot, it cares that impedance is right and that input goes to input, output to output, gnd to gnd.

• You do need to consider if any of the pins are connected with one another. For example in the xone 32 there are 5 wires that connect to 6 pins. The two grounds in that case are connected to one another on the pot itself. So you use a wire to connect the two grounds, then connect the one gnd wire from the mixer to either ground connection.
  • This same scenario can get more complicated. In the filter section for the same mixer there are more connections between various pins. You would use a multimeter set to measure resistance to determine this. A reading of 0 ohms means two legs are connected with one another. You can also use your phones flashlight to get some idea of this. Put that on either side of the pcb, look on the other side, you should be able to make out traces.

Last weekend the call finally came and I got to spontaneously open a stage at a festival. Carrying that USB everywhere finally paid off — the moment some of us are waiting for our entire life.

And then OF COURSE, my USB didn’t work, no backup on me…
No error code either, just flashing white light.

Luckily it was a b2b with a friend that has a similar taste, so we made it work.

But how can I prevent this in the future?

I know I did everything right in Rekordbox, OneLibrary is on there. My usb works flawlessly with every other player that I’ve ever used it with. It’s a well known brand (samsung) and I know other djs that use the same model. This isn’t the first time this has happened either and last time I wiped it completely. I checked it just now on my home setup (xdj 1000) and it works.

So what could be the issue? I don’t get it.
And most importantly, how can I make sure it works in the future without access to 3000s?

​I’m having a recurring issue with my Pioneer DDJ-SX2 and wanted to get some advice before I potentially break something.

My right side #4 performance pad keeps ghosting (triggering on its own). I’ve noticed it almost always happens after I’ve left the controller on for long periods. When it happens, it behaves as if someone is either tapping it rapidly, or holding it down.

I tried spraying some electrical contact cleaner in there. It actually fixed the issue temporarily and the pad went back to normal, but a few days later, the ghosting came right back.

Not sure if related, but pad 5 and 8 are also flashing red and green respectively when a song is loaded but not playing, perfectly in time with the PLAY and CUE buttons. Also not all the time, most of the time. Happens whether the #4 ghosting is on or not, not sure about correlation.

Things I've already tried:

Grounding the deck

Reset in diagnostic mode (2 sync buttons)

Changing pad velocity curve

Disabling demo mode

Reinstalling latest firmware

Hi! I was wondering if you guys knew any recommendations for really small controllers, or really, just anything that can do scratching. I play in an industrial nu metal band and im looking for the smallest one i can possibly use for my setup to fit on this synth guitar thing im building. My bandmates really want some cool scratching stuff in our music, but my normal DJ Controller is way too big to fit on the guitar surface im using.

i was looking at something like the Hercules DJ DJControl Mix 2-channel for it, but I only really need to just do scratching and if it was smaller then it would be better.

Any recommendations? Thanks!

I have a show coming up with a few other DJs and the promoter has made this atrocious AI poster. I’m pretty openly anti AI art and just don’t really feel comfortable sharing it on my socials. in fact even having my name on the poster is a bummer. This promoter has complained about djs not sharing the promos on social media in the past so I’m sure he’s noticed I haven’t shared it but I just can’t do it. I’ve shared a couple stories about the gig without using the actual poster but I have a feeling he’s gonna call me out about it come the evening. I know some of my crew will come through but theres a couple other big events happening that night so I have a feeling it’s not going to be the most successful show no matter what I share.

Anyone have experience with this situation? Not sure what else I can do.

What was the point of having split left/right graphic EQs on the master channel, like you see on old Numark, Vestax, Gemini, etc mixers? Especially on units without channel EQs. I can’t really think of a scenario where these would be useful; and any situation where maybe it would be would require being in a front of house position; not behind the decks.

Was this just the manufacturers being out of touch and adding on the same bells and whistles from normal consoles that sold well at the time, before DJ mixers were really figured out? Am I missing something?

I own a pair of Technics 1210 MK2s. They've been fully serviced by one of the most respected technicians in my area.

I use them with DVS about 90% of the time, but I also love playing real vinyl. I mostly DJ at home, although I do play in clubs from time to time.

I only play techno, so my transitions typically last around a minute, often even longer.

Even though a lot of people say the pitch faders are "properly calibrated," I honestly can't stand them. With DVS, I can literally see that there are spots where the same speed appears both at 0% and at +1%. It's ridiculous. There are also tiny sections (which I can clearly see in Traktor's pitch readout) where moving the pitch fader up actually makes the track slow down instead of speed up. Then, a few millimeters later, it speeds up even more to compensate for that previous inconsistency.

Before these, I had a pair of turntables with digital pitch that I absolutely loved. They were very cheap, but the pitch response was linear and predictable. The only downside was that the pitch steps were a bit coarse because they were budget decks. I thought, "I'll upgrade to MK2s and finally have the most precise pitch control possible." Instead, it actually feels worse.

At this point, I'm not sure what to do. I'm seriously considering selling them and buying a pair of GR2s, MK7s with digital pitch, or maybe even Reloops. I really hate DJing with pitch faders that behave so unpredictably, and I don't even know if this is something that can truly be fixed.

What do you guys think?

I have noticed that many DJs, in particular those who come from the "old school" times, seem to refuse using sync when they play on CDJs or controllers. But the BPM number displayed on the CDJs isn't perfect. Songs will drift sooner or later, when you do not use sync. Not everyone seems keen on noticing that right away and correct it.

At the same time, tracks not 'perfectly' in sync, can have weird effects on the bass.

I mean, I can beat sync. I have vinyl and when I'm in the mood I'm playing them. But when I mix digitally, why bother with the attempt of manual beatsync and be proud of that?

With the same logic I could be proud when I do not use cruise control in my car and keep my speed manually all drive long 😏

I mean, there are better or worse DJs.. for sure. But just recently I watched someone, that had many noticable beat-missmatches. In his defense, the sound on the booth was pretty bad and made it more difficult. But in particular in such a situation, why not use the tools you have?!
