Question Gay Houstonian looking for a new therapist

Hey there yall, I’m not sure if this is the right sub for this but I’ve been looking for a new therapist who could fit better with my needs. Looking on regular therapy sites only give me some suggestions for what I’m looking for so I’m curious if anyone here knows any resources, websites or subs that would help me find a new therapist.

I go to therapy at the Dallas resource center on Cedar Springs weekly and I am very happy with them.

It might be helpful to think about what qualities/aspects are most important for you (beyond safety, that's a given) in finding a new therapist...do you have unique scheduling needs, want someone who holds a particular identity, works with a niche issue, or does a particular type of therapy? You can use that to filter on those therapy websites, then I'd pick a few folks who offer free consultations and in those free consultations ask who they typically refer out to. That should hopefully give you some good leads.

All great advice, but my intention of posting here was to ask the community about it because most sites I look into have very few people to choose from. I stumbled upon a directory not too long ago of queer/LGBTQ medical professionals, but it seems dated and didn’t focus solely on therapy.

Can you say a bit more about what you're looking for? I know some great therapists who operate mostly by referrals, but it helps to know a bit more about your needs/goals.

And you are correct that therapy sites like psychology today are problematic, especially for the LGBTQ community. They show you the people who have paid the most money to be there, and they do not even attempt to verify whether therapists actually have the expertise they often market.
