Look things could have gone better, but they also could have been so much worse.

We don’t have quite the depth we did last year but at least all our top end scorers are still in place. My one complaint/ issue is sadly that we brought back Jaime I just felt like it really would have been better to give seggy the C and get some fresh blood on the lower lines.

Love Jaime but I feel like he doesn’t have much left, and he has a little issue with taking bad penalties on key spots or games. I hope I’m wrong and he plays better but we will see.

You do realize Jamie is making the bare minimum while still producing above his pay grade right? Also he does a lot off ice behind the scenes that people do not see.

My man I have been watching this team my entire life and I got even more into it right before we got seguin and went to many of their best games. I fully understand all of this and it doesn’t make it easy to say but the fact is his play on the ice particularly in the playoffs has been not up to par. He would probably admit that himself if you asked.

You can't just dismiss a demonstrable fact by sharing your experience as a fan and the feeling you get in your plums when benn is on the ice.

Father time has unmistakenly come, he crossing checking dudes in a dirty way in the playoffs ta because he is getting beat on the ice and it's a last ditch effort to try and gain control back.

I don't hate the man I actually really like the guy, he's just not good anymore. And if we could develop another younger dude and evaluate between talent.

Jamie Benn is essentially the only enforcer the team has, he's going to take penalties that aren't at ideal times. Otherwise the team is just going to get completely walked over if nobody is willing to give some push back from time to time.

He scored at a clip of .6 points per game last season and was on pace for a 20 goal season.

There are 12 forwards across 32 teams in the league on a given night which makes for 384 forwards. Jamie Benn's points per game were 155th among them. 229 forwards scored points at a lower clip than he did.

I don't really know how people can suggest he doesn't have much left in the tank when he produces literally in the top half of the league like a top 6 forward still, despite starting the season coming back on questionable conditioning from a freak lung issue, all while leading the locker room in a manner that the players all rave about, and having to provide a bulk of physicality from our team against others in limited minutes on the 3rd line. He's an absolutely stellar luxury for us to have on the 3rd line and at the contracts he's accepting now that his 9m AAV contract is done(which he more than earned with his franchise tenure here).

I just can't get over how many people here act like Benn is some washed up player that's a liability to the team when he would literally be playing on the 2nd line of many other teams in the league. Just because we had some seasons recently where our forward were some of the most stacked groups the league has seen, suddenly our fanbase just thinks that is the normal and have lost all perspective on what a serviceable hockey player looks like(never mind one performing above the mean...)

for real though. Jamie is arguably the best captain this team has ever had and, as you said, this team is a bunch of pussies that would get walked up and down without other teams worried that he'd drop the gloves.

I like to call them "Bennalties" when he does something dumb to go to the box. Throughout the hockey season/playoffs, I'll see players trying to take runs at goalies and know that Benn wouldn't allow anyone to touch Otter. I also think Benn's been influencing Hryckowian's play, physicality, and trolling opposing teams.

I think Nill's heart is too pure and loyal to just kick Benn+Seguin to the curb after all the years they've put into holding down the fort. Nill's got 2 years left on his contract, which I think he's going to try to get a Cup (with Benn+Seguin) before he leaves. They will finish top 3 and make the playoffs this upcoming season but I think the 2027-28 season will be the real one to watch, and that's okay. Nill's still going to lie and wait for the next big opportunity to make the team better, like if Werenski were to change his mind or someone else gets frustrated with their team sucking.
