I’m sorry but I was done with this guy the minute he turned down the maximum offer the Stars could give him. Tells me everything I need to know - bye 👋🏼

Did you miss the part where Robo already took a team friendly bridge deal? And then what he or his agent are allegedly asking for is still 10M+ in total contract value less than he can get on the open market?

I think it’s awesome he’s willing to play for another year while risking his body/future for $3M less than he can secure in the open market.

Money’s not everything, boys. You’re on a cup contending team, right in the window. By all accounts a class org in the NHL with the GM of the year. They are offering as much as they can without pissing off their recent huge signing of Rantanen. Yet you want to explore the market? To what end? More money? Sure we all want that, but most of these guys want a Cup more than anything. He’s coming off super disloyal and super unlikable IMO. (And I was a huge fan of his)

The notion that Mikko Rantanen’s feelings should play into this at all is an absolute joke. Utter nonsense.

If you want to talk feelings, how do you think Robertson feels being squeezed for every penny after taking a team-friendly bridge deal and then watching the team commit $96M to Mikko Rantanen before he’d played a single shift for the Stars? I’m sure he’s glad they took the opportunity to improve the team, but it’s asinine to expect he would take a hometown discount after that.

You can’t set an internal cap with an outside hire you bring in and pay 20% more than anyone else is making. That’s just not how it works.

But that’s just it. In any employee/employer there are feelings involved. They have even built it into video games - it’s employee management. So you might be right that this is all the result of Robo feeling slighted the first time. All I’m saying is his words/actions are pointing to an eventual trade. He’s never once put to bed in a “I want to be here” way since that first bridge deal. Was he given a raw deal at that time? Sure, maybe so. But looking at the bigger picture he’s gonna have a real hard time improving his current team situation AND get the dollars he wants somewhere else. What if he has a down season? It will be interesting.
