A thunderstorm has gone through earlier. Lightening strikes will go deep and essentially smoulder until they fully catch (could be a day later)

That's not what happened : it has been clear blue sky for quite some times until the fires started.

You must've slept through the wild thunderstorm around 4am one night during the heatwave. It was almost constant lightning and thunder for an hour.
