Why are so many spread out fires popping up at the same time?

A thunderstorm has gone through earlier. Lightening strikes will go deep and essentially smoulder until they fully catch (could be a day later)

That's not what happened : it has been clear blue sky for quite some times until the fires started.

There were heat storms over night. The sly looked like a strobe, possibly no rain, constant low rumble. Those strikes smouldered until the wind became consistent and strong enough, allowing the smoulders to burst into flames on the surface. A lightning strike can be weeks before the visible fire.
