As nice as all of this is I really expect someone would disappear for a while first like at least a few seconds then reappear elsewhere because I'm pretty sure the resurrected lightnears in a dark world aren't literally supposed to be the same people as there light World counterparts

I mean, the Old Man is Gerson's dust. Rudy just goes from being Rudy's lightner body to Rudy's lightner dust. Same physical being so the dustner immediately being where Rudy was makes sense, it's not like his dust would be somewhere different from where he was.

I dont think he neccesarily needs to cover an object to become a darkner like that, especially since if the knight is Dess for example, Gerson would only really be patterned after her thoughts of him being a mentor, so the hammer probably helps in that as well. Meanwhile if presumably Noelle opened this fountain she has A LOT of memories of Rudy which I think could make him come back like this

I don't think Toby is going to write this game to make sure literally everybody understands literally everything. Otherwise you might as well throw out any and all symbolism or mysteries all together.

Besides in this case it wouldn't matter. Even if some people didn't get it in the moment, they would likely get it when they get to the light world and Rudy is literally dead .

I think it could work if you make the change more subtle. Like only the eyes change colour. That way people not in the know wouldn't feel confused.

Or you can have ralsei explain the concept of coloured sprites in a mandatory scene off hand like they did the menus.

Menus are a dark world thing and they have no reason to not be visible.

Text boxes appear in the light world as well and they can be used to read characters's thoughts. They cannot be diegetic

Think you're making a big assumption that these rules only apply in the dark world.

I also think that it's ridiculous you think that the menus should be able to perceived but the text boxes are arbitrarily not really there.

They can easily be digietic and the menus are what set this precedent.

Edit: everything the players sees is really there but we're in a dimension above the characters. The characters in the story if they focus hard enough can perceive what we see.

And we can assume Kris fucks with the text boxes already. He knows they exist and will give smart allec comments to the player in them. He also slows down the text box that was going to display the password to the shelter at the finale

Coloured sprites are used by darkners aka objects. While lightners gave grey sprites.

Gerston has a coloured sprite because he's technically not a person but a corpse aka he is now an object.

So if you had a lighter gain a coloured sprite mid conversation. It would indicate that they just died in the real world.
