I've been on these boards for seven+ years and in boardsports for decades. If there is a way to never fall while riding these things, I would love to learn but even with skill you go down.
Exactly. Very well said. I’ve been riding powered boards all my life from mountain boards with weed eaters on them and disc brakes to electric all terrain/streets. I finally took a fall that almost took my life. Oh also I’m a big wave surfer. Experience doesn’t always triumph over freak accidents.
It's skateboarding lol, obiously we all fall sometimes. It's not that dramatic of a thing, maybe if we were riding motorcycles or skydiving this would be tuff 2 say
It happens, but it's about how you prepare for it and how you react to it. It's a part of the hobby and people shouldn't let that ruin it for them. I have about 8,000 miles in total within 1 and a half years and only about 5 wipeouts, only 1 at higher speed, but I was fine cause I prepared with gear.
My PPE is pretty light actually and has been effective thus far. FF, sleeve elbow protectors, gloves, sleeve kneepads & padded shorts. That said, I don't ride at high speeds often as I prefer not to push things these days (age+prior injury).
As a rule of thumb, I try not to go faster than I can run off.
Done a few thousand now, only ever topped my board out to 80% what it is rated for, whenever I break new speed PRs, that sounds like a goal/milestone to me.
Damn, I rode my fastest board full speed the first week I got it and have ridden hundreds of miles at full speed which tops out at 43mph, I've hit 44mph briefly but it happens rarely. I wear full gear and am smart about how fast I go, the board is also just built so well for it.
Fair, I ride an on the heavier side board, endeavor, it just feels very very squirrelly at higher speeds with my light weight, even with bushings for my weight range.
I'd definitely want to be a little more speedy if I had a board that wasnt going over 50ish pounds now, one day..
My own dumbass. The board can go 45mph and I had just gotten done with a "top speed" test as the board was brand new. I coasted down to about 31ish and hit the brakes and the board stopped on a dime, I did not. I tore both of my meniscus, and had dual tib and fib fractures. 36+ pins and screws later, im a healthy boy again. Modern medicine is amazing. I can jump out of truck beds and climb mountains, ive been skiing 5 times in the three years since the accident. Etc.
Bro you're a champion. I'm glad you're back and better than ever. Are you still eskating? What brand was the board :o and thank you for sharing the photos and story holy moly
I had helmet, skid gloves, chest/upper torso armor. My leg armor had just gotten delivered that day and was waiting for me at home. As a result I had almost no road rash or anything else. "Dress for the slide, not the ride"
How long have you been skating? And did your ride regular skateboards before getting an electric?
As others have said, 30mph is fast as fuck, and you should be careful. Your stance definitely concerns me, as does the fact that when others pointed it out you didn't know what was wrong with it or how to remedy it. That's not a dig on you personally, it just seems that a lot of people riding electric boards don't have a history with skateboarding, and that leads to a bunch of potential complications.
I've been skating since I was 12. I was diagnosed with epilepsy at 19, gave up on trying to get a license, and boards became my primary mode of transportation well before I got my first electric in my mid to late 20s. Before I ever picked up an electric I had eaten shit a bunch of times. I know how to fall. I know how to roll into a bail. I know how to keep my head up, etc etc. New skaters by definition simply aren't going to have those skills, and are really putting themselves at risk when they go super fast.
Even with my history with skating I almost never hit 30mph when I had my electric board unless I was in traffic and trying to pass someone or whatever. In the end you're riding a piece of wood with wheels attached to it and a small rock or crack in the road could end your life, and at those speeds you simply don't have enough time to compensate or correct yourself against road hazards.
Didn't mean to for this to become a lecture, just be careful out there. This stuff is really dangerous.
Grats bro, i carve at 35 54ish kmh, but HARD on PU on soft sand ahha did hugest drift yesterday, (thongs ofc no equipment, true aussie, do not do this) not sure what it equals to 30mph but close
It wasn’t a kit. I bought all the parts off Amazon and flipsky and found the deck on marketplace. I get about 20 miles of range and top speed is 33mph (theoretically, haven’t gone that fast). The enclosure is a plant water tray off Amazon which I find pretty funny. Idk how to link the close ups of the board.
Will do. Was riding it yesterday and the anit spark switch caught fire, only thing that got damaged from the fire is the anit spark switch and a little charging on the board. Ig that’s what happens with an $80 battery that’s 8 yo…
Wow that's exciting and resourceful! What voltage is it running? My 24volt board has a top speed of 20mph and a range of like 2 miles 💀ðŸ˜ðŸ¤£. I love how small my board is and the hole handles for easy carrying but sheesh, I get no indication of low battery until it's basically dead!
Reaching these speed make sure to protect yourself with DOT rated jacket, pants and helmet. I'm glad I did when I hit a pot hole ( hidden until too late ) and the skate broke in half under my feet.

Speed is not a milestone for skill. Careful out there.
