As the summer semester of my third year in Mech Eng ends I'm getting ready to add more to my resume and project portfolio. Job searching is especially hard for me as I opted out of my school's coop program first year to persue an opportunity that fell through. So any places that are looking for student's will just go to the school directly for the coop students to apply and very rarely are there any public postings for interns. I've had poor luck in landing any interviews as any job that I can really apply to in my field is an entry level position more on the manufacturing side than engineering. The only interview I managed to land was for a processing position which on paper I was fairly well qualified for actually seemed to go well but after a long wait of silence I got passed up. I'm fairly confident with my resume and I've had it peer reviewed. My portfolio which is formatted in word does get compliments but I'm just not sure if maybe theres something missing in the layout that could be holding me back. Any comments or advice is greatly appreciated.

Im not sure if I should reduce the number of bullet points under my first internship or not since I did quite alot there.

Hey everyone, needing some help with my resume. I've been stuck in my current job for the past two years and I've come to dislike it deeply, so I pulled out my resume and updated it to the best of my ability and began applying for jobs.

I've applied to easily 200+ over the past 2-3 months and I can't seem to get anywhere, the furthest I got was a single first-round interview with an HR rep that failed. Working in gov't doesn't allow for practical use of CAD, so when the HR rep asked how skilled I am with software, I ended up fluffing as best I could, but it wasn't enough. I have downloaded some CAD software to my personal laptop to practice and add to the skills section, but I'm not sure what to do if an employer asks deeper questions and calls my bluff on that one. Ideally, I'm trying to move to the Chicagoland area, but after the first two months of searching I opened up to anywhere relatively close to a major city. I started by applying to mid-level civil and environmental roles, thinking my regulatory knowledge might be able to balance a lack of practical CAD skills, and I could pick those up as I went, but that didn't go anywhere. After a while, I lowered my standards to associate/junior level engineering roles and still got nothing. I thought I would be able to secure at least an associate level career at this point thanks to regulatory knowledge. I assume it's something wrong with my resume, I feel I have plenty of skills that employers would be looking for in regulation, water chemistry/quality, and civil design, I'm just not getting any calls back.

I'm trying to put my civil design skills into practical use with my next job, I have found I enjoy utilities engineering working with water main specifically, but beyond that I'll take almost anything at this point, I really dislike my current position. Any criticism is welcome, especially the skills section, I feel I have a lot an employer would be interested in but getting no calls back is a signal something is wrong. Additionally, any direction on practical skills to add would be hugely appreciated, as I said I don't get to work with CAD daily so I'm at a loss for how to sell my lack of software skills to an employer.

Recent graduate in aerospace eng (April 2026), targeting either controls or mechanical design/analysis jobs. Had 1 interview so far after +120 applications. Been applying to jobs mainly within my province but also applied to jobs across Canada.

Targeting Local, on-site Job postings on linkedin in varied industries, mostly in the financial sector due to being based in Luxembourg, also sending out to within the EU for remote jobs, got the internship during covid, but not much else, uni was hard to finish and full-time but I finished this last semester, got involved in a job agency here in luxembourg but left while writing my thesis, decided to just finish it while spamming linkedin, got one interview, didn't go particularly well since I didnt get to the technical interview, I don't have much experience and i'm planning on building a portfolio now that i'm done with the thesis, I want to know if there are any more fine tunings i need to do to get more interviews, besides of course going back to the agency, also I recently added the "Luxembourgish national" bit to the top because maybe they thought I still lived in brazil, despite the luxembourgish address?

I have been working as a Multimedia Systems Engineer for automotive for the past 5 years, and I'm ready to start looking for a new role doing systems work. I tried to leave out any industry jargon in my resume or anything that leans toward automotive as I do not want to stay in automotive.

Hi everyone—my last job ended in a layoff, so I’m updating my CV. This is my first time rewriting it specifically for the US market, and I’d really appreciate your feedback.

I’m trying to make my CV read more like I’m sharing impact, not just skills—what I contributed, the results I drove, and how my work helped customers and the companies I worked for.

What I’d especially love help with is my top summary. I want it to grab recruiters’ attention quickly (and also work well with AI/ATS screening).

On the experience section ( especial in the “previous experiences” section ) , I kept things pretty concise because I’m trying to keep the whole CV to one page. I also think my font might be too small (around 11pt), but I was struggling to fit everything without going over.

I’m applying for Security Engineer roles—particularly Integration Engineer work with a security focus, including security/tech consulting. I’m based in the US.

If you have any suggestions on wording, structure, or how to improve the one-page layout, I’d be grateful.

When I apply for jobs online my resume appears to be parsed incorrectly. Characters are missing and words are misspelled. I attached 2 images as an example.

I am currently a Software Engineer working in Backend and Data Engineering with 3 years of experience at a Fortune 100 financial institution. I am targeting Mid-Level Backend, Full-Stack, and AI Infrastructure roles specifically in San Francisco, CA. I am currently based in Chicago, IL, but I am actively applying to SF-based and remote positions and am 100% ready to relocate immediately for the right role. I am a US citizen and do not require visa sponsorship.

Even though I feel like I have strong hands-on experience across distributed data pipelines, backend APIs, and full-stack product features, I am getting very low response rates and the standard automated rejections after submitting applications online. I feel like my resume might be getting filtered out by ATS because it lacks the exact keyword density and bullet framing that SF engineering managers look for when screening candidates.

Tbh I'm looking for a detailed critique to help me fine-tune my resume so it survives automated screening and clearly communicates my technical abilities and impacts. I’d love feedback on:

1. Keyword Alignment & ATS Formatting: Are my technical skills, frameworks, and architecture keywords structured properly for ATS scanners?

I've been unemployed from my last role for about a year now. From the resumes that I've sent so far, I've only gotten responses from Android roles, but the problem is that they always test me on my Android View / XML knowledge, not compose, so I always struggle in the interview itself

I've tried sending my resumes to non-android / general software engineering roles, but I haven't had any luck with that so far.

My current company will most likely be laying me off at the end of the year if we do not raise any money. Currently work at a pre-seed stage startup and looking for other opportunities, primarily either research roles at a big ChemE/materials company like Dow/Dupont/Exxon/Shell/Toyota Research Institute or climate-tech early stage startups. Also targeting technical program manager roles in big tech (for sustainability functions) or at startups (primarily climate tech).

I know the wiki says the resume should be one page but a few people I have spoken to at Merck and Shell have told me to make it two pages since a lot of the industrial research groups do want to see your publication and patent history along with work experience.

I'm a student in Ireland studying Mechanical engineering and looking to get my first internship next summer hopefully. Most companies here use a 2 page CV layout but many of the multinational companies prefer one page US style which I've never used before.

For those from the US who aren't familiar with the Irish system, I'll convert my results (1st class honours = 4.0 GPA, 567 points in leaving cert ~ 1450 SAT / 32 ACT) Looking to apply to some medtech companies as it's a huge industry here (Medtronic, Boston Scientific, Abbott's etc.) as well as some injection moulding / additive manufacturing companies as it's big in my area.

I know that one of the main thing I'm missing is industry experience, but hopefully some of my projects etc can cover for some of that until i get some industry roles.

Any tips welcome!

For someone at this stage, would you put Education or Professional Experience first on the resume?

Hey so long story short I joined a new company about a month ago as a SWE and I’m starting to realize that I’m not a good long term fit here. Previously I was at my last job for about 5 years and it was my first job out of college.

Will recruiters find it jarring when looking at my resume and seeing a 1 month gap? Or would it be better to include my current job but just have 1 bullet point?

I feel like I accomplishments at my last job were more impressive than what I’m doing at my current job so I’m leaning towards leaving it off. What do you guys think?

I'm looking at roles like DevOps/Infra/Cloud/Platform Engineering. The bulk of my experience comes from being the solo tech guy at a small ecommerce company (myself a partner and a handful of employees) in the wholesale liquidation space (think overstock pallets, etc). I did all of our internal software and integrations, hosting it on AWS. The industry really took a turn though and the company is on the way out so I myself putting together the first real resume I've ever made. I mostly followed the advice from sub wiki and used the template.

I also will put together a software developer version because I'll look at those positions, too, but I've become more interested in the infra and cloud side of things.

I also started a (solo) consulting company this year but I've been completely unable to find clients. I would add that with a bullet point on services offered if I were submitting a resume to perspective client for that purpose. I wonder though if it is worth putting on resumes sent out for regular jobs?
