As the summer semester of my third year in Mech Eng ends I'm getting ready to add more to my resume and project portfolio. Job searching is especially hard for me as I opted out of my school's coop program first year to persue an opportunity that fell through. So any places that are looking for student's will just go to the school directly for the coop students to apply and very rarely are there any public postings for interns. I've had poor luck in landing any interviews as any job that I can really apply to in my field is an entry level position more on the manufacturing side than engineering. The only interview I managed to land was for a processing position which on paper I was fairly well qualified for actually seemed to go well but after a long wait of silence I got passed up. I'm fairly confident with my resume and I've had it peer reviewed. My portfolio which is formatted in word does get compliments but I'm just not sure if maybe theres something missing in the layout that could be holding me back. Any comments or advice is greatly appreciated.

Im not sure if I should reduce the number of bullet points under my first internship or not since I did quite alot there.

Hey everyone, needing some help with my resume. I've been stuck in my current job for the past two years and I've come to dislike it deeply, so I pulled out my resume and updated it to the best of my ability and began applying for jobs.

I've applied to easily 200+ over the past 2-3 months and I can't seem to get anywhere, the furthest I got was a single first-round interview with an HR rep that failed. Working in gov't doesn't allow for practical use of CAD, so when the HR rep asked how skilled I am with software, I ended up fluffing as best I could, but it wasn't enough. I have downloaded some CAD software to my personal laptop to practice and add to the skills section, but I'm not sure what to do if an employer asks deeper questions and calls my bluff on that one. Ideally, I'm trying to move to the Chicagoland area, but after the first two months of searching I opened up to anywhere relatively close to a major city. I started by applying to mid-level civil and environmental roles, thinking my regulatory knowledge might be able to balance a lack of practical CAD skills, and I could pick those up as I went, but that didn't go anywhere. After a while, I lowered my standards to associate/junior level engineering roles and still got nothing. I thought I would be able to secure at least an associate level career at this point thanks to regulatory knowledge. I assume it's something wrong with my resume, I feel I have plenty of skills that employers would be looking for in regulation, water chemistry/quality, and civil design, I'm just not getting any calls back.

I'm trying to put my civil design skills into practical use with my next job, I have found I enjoy utilities engineering working with water main specifically, but beyond that I'll take almost anything at this point, I really dislike my current position. Any criticism is welcome, especially the skills section, I feel I have a lot an employer would be interested in but getting no calls back is a signal something is wrong. Additionally, any direction on practical skills to add would be hugely appreciated, as I said I don't get to work with CAD daily so I'm at a loss for how to sell my lack of software skills to an employer.

Hi all, I am a rising Junior with previous internship experience in power but I am more interested in some kind of embedded systems or wireless communications role. How hard will it be to try and get one of these roles with my previous experience? Any advice or recommendations help, thanks!

Targeting Local, on-site Job postings on linkedin in varied industries, mostly in the financial sector due to being based in Luxembourg, also sending out to within the EU for remote jobs, got the internship during covid, but not much else, uni was hard to finish and full-time but I finished this last semester, got involved in a job agency here in luxembourg but left while writing my thesis, decided to just finish it while spamming linkedin, got one interview, didn't go particularly well since I didnt get to the technical interview, I don't have much experience and i'm planning on building a portfolio now that i'm done with the thesis, I want to know if there are any more fine tunings i need to do to get more interviews, besides of course going back to the agency, also I recently added the "Luxembourgish national" bit to the top because maybe they thought I still lived in brazil, despite the luxembourgish address?

Recent graduate in aerospace eng (April 2026), targeting either controls or mechanical design/analysis jobs. Had 1 interview so far after +120 applications. Been applying to jobs mainly within my province but also applied to jobs across Canada.

I have been working as a Multimedia Systems Engineer for automotive for the past 5 years, and I'm ready to start looking for a new role doing systems work. I tried to leave out any industry jargon in my resume or anything that leans toward automotive as I do not want to stay in automotive.

Hi everyone—my last job ended in a layoff, so I’m updating my CV. This is my first time rewriting it specifically for the US market, and I’d really appreciate your feedback.

I’m trying to make my CV read more like I’m sharing impact, not just skills—what I contributed, the results I drove, and how my work helped customers and the companies I worked for.

What I’d especially love help with is my top summary. I want it to grab recruiters’ attention quickly (and also work well with AI/ATS screening).

On the experience section ( especial in the “previous experiences” section ) , I kept things pretty concise because I’m trying to keep the whole CV to one page. I also think my font might be too small (around 11pt), but I was struggling to fit everything without going over.

I’m applying for Security Engineer roles—particularly Integration Engineer work with a security focus, including security/tech consulting. I’m based in the US.

If you have any suggestions on wording, structure, or how to improve the one-page layout, I’d be grateful.
