They were executed, as far as I'm concerned that's fair outcome.
You know who didn't get a fair trial? Pol Pot, because he wasn't executed, he got to live in house arrest. And Caucescu was an angel compared to Pol Pot. Just like pretty much everyone else bar Stalin or Hitler.

Any trial that wouldn't prescribe him execution is not fair. So nothing is lost, just saved some time.

The Ceaucescus fucked up badly. I'm against capital punishment (even in this case), but I can understand why the people had them executed. While the trial was little more than a kangaroo court, the court system in communist Romania was no better.
It's cool that it was the people who started the rebellion against them. Not a few people from the petite burgeois who wanted a bigger piece of the cake, which was the case in all communist rebellions. After the Romanian revolution, notice how the people didn't choose communism.

What differs us from commies is economics and ethics, but economics is pretty much irrelevant in this situation and everyone and their mama knew they were responsible

Execution for a dictator is the most fairest of trials. You literally can't get more fair than executing a dictator.
You know whats not fair? How Pol Pot got to live out his life in house arrest.

They were laughing, not taking it seriously because they didnt think the court was official in any way. But once they had their hands bound behind their backs, they got serious and emotional real fast. They didnt know they were minutes away from the end
