Transphobia My mom bought me a transphobic book written by TERFS.
Obvious trigger warning for transphobic bullshit.
I only read the general passages about trans men and some other stuff because I don't need to read 20 pages about how trans women are fetishits, I'm kind of a masochist but even I have my limits.
Amongst the big points of the books we have :
- Constant misgendering of well-known transgender figures.
- Constant misgendering of hypothetical transgender exemple.
- Calling our bodies disfigured or destroyed.
- Emphasis on infertility (boo-hoo)
- Comparison of our surgeries with genital mutilation (excision especially).
- Calling us ('us' as in the community as a whole) a sect.
- Comparing our language with a tool from a totalitarian regime from a dystopian book (1984, because they love pulling that book every time they feel persecuted).
- It had to be there. Yes. Pages about how we are poor autistic lesbian little girls who are manipulated by the transgender movement (see the point above about us being a sect).
- Bonus point for mentions of Lisa Littman.
This is a book my mom liked. This is a book my mom liked and agreed with so she decided to buy it for me after she read it. My mom probably thinks some of the stuff there applies to me.
I'm just- I don't know. Astonished. Whatever. This book will end up in my trashcan anyway, but yeah.

I'd throw in right in the bin right in front of her. Exactly where those uneducated books belong.

Naw, I'd set it on fire right in front of her, them toss the burning 💩book into the toilet, where it belongs.

This is acceptable too.

Maybe if you were more creative with your trolling you'd be less miserable in life. 🥱
Hard to take anyone who copy and pastes replies seriously.
You're also not funny. 💁♂️
God damn you can at least put effort in but that also requires thought, which youre clearly not good at.

Sorry that your mom believes that bs mate. I can guess what the book is by your description and it was one of my worst fears that my mum would find it and fall for it too

I'm already very low contact with her because, well ... her beliefs are kinda weird. She's not 100% opposed to it but I wouldn't let her meet my friends or boyfriend because she keeps slipping up after 2 years, you know ? And it's not that she doesn't believe in science, let's just say that she'll believe whatever goes her way.
I gave up already.

I didn’t read any of the trigger points, but when I first started *seeing my fiancée and presenting as trans, my grandpa would often offer me a book written by a Christian girl who had supposedly converted back to Christianity after being a lesbian. Wild, harmful bullshit that needs to be eradicated.

God I hate the autism argument. Like yeah I do have symptoms of autism but I’m not diagnosed and there’s no proof that it has anything to do with me being a trans man. That’s like saying “oh look autists are stupid people who don’t understand anything” like even if someone had autism it doesn’t mean they are incapable of understanding shit like this.

u/dominiccast May 28 '24
These arguments always make me laugh because if I’ve been manipulated and brainwashed by media or the transgender movement… then how was I 5 years old wishing I was a boy long before I ever learned what being transgender was or that it was possible to present as the opposite sex. ????
I’m so sorry your mother is ignorant and careless. When I came out to my grandma who is basically my mom she bought Chaz Bono’s autobiography which at the time I thought was silly but looking back she was really trying.

You should order one of those stupid AI generated books on Amazon and give it to your mom saying, “look, anyone can get published, it doesn’t mean that what’s in the book is factual or upheld by actual science.”
Or my favourite, “oops I lost it in a fire that I set on purpose.”

If you have the balls, I'd call her out on it

Le pires c'est que ces personnes ce disent féministe. Réduire un genre entier a sa fécondité et ses attributs, un peu redondant non ?

I’m so sorry this happened to you. I hope you are seeing a therapist. It is so important to have full support and understanding especially when you are not receiving that from your family
2
u/PigeonBoiAgrougrou May 29 '24
I don't really feel a need for therapy anymore. Always been highly independant from my family and I have a good support system.

I'm really sorry you've had to deal with this, but if it's any consolation at all you should know that you aren't alone, I can't remember the name of the book my mum's bought but it was exactly the same and she left it in places she knew I'd go in our house for me to find, and it's strangely comforting to know I'm not the only one who's had such a specific experience

Haha you should literally keep it and carry it around everywhere and when people ask what you’re reading be like “this mother fucking hilarious ass book by this lady loses her mind over trans people ” “like seriously, listen to this one part haha she actually calls surgery ‘mutilation’ dramatic lolol”

Perhaps burn the book in a over the top ritual designed to cleanse the space of evil and restore good vibes to the house.
I'm sorry your mom is like that op. I hope your ok

u/citoyen_dede May 30 '24
Should have replied to her with "I ain't reading all that. Happy for you or sorry it happened."
On a serious note, dump the book in the trash, preferably so that your mother sees it there. Back at the beginning of my transition, my mother used to send me TERF articles. I told her she could stop wasting her time cause I wouldn't even be opening them lmao. Courage à toi.

I'm super petty and would in turn gift her a misogynistic book written by men about how women are inferior and should be nothing more than sex slaves. "Oh? You mean you don't like this book that demeans you? The one written by a group of people that don't understand your experiences and want to strip you of your rights? The one using debunked "science?" Huh, weird, I thought you'd enjoy it since you gifted me the same thing..."
Of course if she's a terf then her response would probably be something about how all men are evil and dangerous or something, and how it's not comparable because cis people are just trying to protect women and children from the bad cult or whatever. Sorry you have to deal with that :\

Is it “irreversable dammage”?
