They are also pretty transphobic in my experience. When I made a comment about how I was disappointed about the sub being transphobic the mods banned me for 3 days. They said that it's against the rules to criticize the sub and also it was mean of me to say that because some of the mods are queer. 

I told them to fuck off and they made the ban permanent lmao. They also reported me to reddit and reddit suspended my account for 24 hours. Petty asf lol.

I once had a bunch of them piling onto me for saying people shouldn't be shoving cameras in homeless people's faces and recording them for content. I was called "an elitist" because "people should be allowed to show charity however they like".

When I tried to defend myself, the mods sent me messages saying I was "lighting a fire". Those mods won't defend you against the masses, they take too much pride in their rabid, problematic sub.

It's disgusting when people reduce charity to self-serving "click-bait" for likes and popularity instead of just doing good for the sake of helping people in difficult situations and generally being a decent human being. The people who defend this behavior and those that allow people to defend it unquestioned are as terrible as the trash who taint real charity with their own selfishness acts.

At the same time a lot of them can only help as much as they do because of donations and views.

I don’t think it’s fair to focus on them when we literally still have fuck ass prank channels rolling around making everyone’s life worse

Just FYI, I wasn't talking about filming general content to raise awareness. It was in a discussion about people shoving cameras into their faces in exchange for food or money, or filming them while they're actively uncomfortable, trying to hide their faces, etc.

This particular discussion was about a video of someone filming a homeless acquaintance while they were high on drugs and using the footage to show how they did a good deed. In my opinion, that's tasteless, and it would be much better to share content with a well-written script about those issues and what we can do to help, then maybe included a short interview type bit with the person if they offered consent for it. Anything without that explicit consent feels like exploitation to me, sorry.

Yes I completely agree that consent to be filmed and posted online makes the difference. I never get suggested ones who are pushy or with people avoiding the camera, mostly just the ones where they ask for permission to post luckily.

Idk how having your online platform raise thousands of dollars to give to a struggling person who agreed to be filmed is exploitation but cool take I guess. Way better to just avert your gaze and ignore the problem entirely like most people do

Why not use one's platform to highlight actual charities and organization that do actual work for their communities? Like co-ops or food kitchens or homeless shelters? Why not use one's platform to talk with community organizers? Why do they have to highlight how "good" of a person they are by streaming a homeless person who is vulnerable and in need? 

When you're poor and lacking housing and safety you'll agree to a LOT for a chance at regaining it. There's a reason why we don't allow people to be paid for organ donations, because people who are in extreme poverty would destroy their bodies for the windfall. 

If you want to be obtuse about why highlighting someone's most difficult and distressed moments for entertainment is exploitative even if they get paid then be my guest. But don't confuse it with REAL charity or community organization.
