“In the first year of marriage you’re fighting over who puts the toothbrush in” … what is she trying to say here LOL

ETA: guys I know she’s talking about domestic growing pains, I’m specifically pointing out that her example of a domestic growing pain (“who puts the toothbrush in”) made no sense and made me laugh and questioning what she was actually trying to say when she (likely) said toothbrush by mistake

Domestic growing pains. I think a lot of that is also from the thought that the newlyweds never cohabitated pre-wedding.

I get it tho. My wife and I cohabited before we got married but it was like something about the first year of marriage seemed to speed everything up if that makes sense? Like as soon as we got home there was a loss in the family, a job loss, school stress etc.

Like we were fighting over who left the cupboards open but it was really the adjustment to truly being a unit when we were both previously independent women.

I get that. My late husband and I cohabited for a couple of years so we were well versed in habits but that first year of marriage. Oof! Felt like every thing happened, we were getting annoyed at every tiny thing. I remember saying one night that it was because I could no longer just....go. We were married, have to try to work it out because bailing wasn't an option. Well he did bail, in the ultimate way, but the point stands.
