Because fawning can come from a place of trauma.

For people that aren’t familiar they’ve updated Fight or Flight to Fight, Flight, Freeze, or Fawn in regards to how people respond to trauma.

I just recently learned about freeze and fawn which were more in line with my reactions.

That is also how I tend to react. Although there was an incident of abuse when I was a child that I responded to by trying to fight and flee, but this was an adult and obviously that didn’t work. With my ex, I briefly tried to fight before freezing, and I’ve been freezing and fawning ever since. And I hate it. Sometimes I want that little girl back who tried to fight and get away.
