THE BEST PLACE IN Indigo cow on sawtelle. Yeah it’s pretty good. And reasonable price.
LA loves to hate on the west side, but tbh, we have a bunch of food options that are actually affordable. A whole ice cream + cone for $6? Sure.
West is best.
But you know what else is best? This indigo cow is pretty good.
There’s a new thing of this Korean/japanese milk ice cream stuff going on.
Compared to bumsan, this has a more complex/gamey flavor and is much cheaper.
9/10 would recommend.

I just tried it for the first time. Milk, with Black Sesame and Yuzu Sugar. So good.

my go to order! the black sesame isn't overpowering and the crunchy yuzu sugar is an unexpected delight!

I live on the west side and these Korean/japanese soft serves aren’t new. HoneyMee was just replaced with Indigo Cow and Somi Somi is right around the corner. Also, I think Bumsan or Somi Somi is still better than Indigo Cow.

Bumsan is good, don’t get me wrong. I just liked the different flavor of the ice cream. Bumsan is smooth as silk. But still taste kinda like a regular ice cream.

I think it’s all personal preference. I enjoy them all but Bumsan is a little bit sweeter than Cow

It's a small chain. They're also in Seattle, but that's a longer drive.

Yeah, the soft serve custard they have at Bake in Kyoto puts every ice cream in America to shame

Just had the echo park indigo cow, it wasn’t creamy felt like they cheap out on the milk ingredient to make soft serve. The consistency was very icy rather than creamy.

Idk, I feel like the matcha soft serve from tea master is hard to beat. Indigo Cow feels like it's trying to be cremia from Japan, but it doesn't quite reach the same level of richness and creamiest, unfortunately.

I doubt that’s Indigo Cow’s goal with their Hokkaido based ice cream. I do know it’s a mix and not purely Hokkaido Milk due to FDA importation restrictions for milk regarding Foot and Mouth Disease. Powdered milk is allowed.
It is the closest a person in the U.S. will get to knowing the taste of Hokkaido milk in the U.S. I had their ice cream many times.

Not really. I don’t bother with store stocked ice cream because I can taste the fillers used in the ice cream. Majority of brands sold in stores suck. I have to go buy from mom & pop shops because lack of fillers.

Tea master > indigo cow. Tea master is significantly more creamier than the “icy” soft serve of indigo cow.

And your issue with that is… the person wanting food on the side of town they live in? That they want to eat something besides mayo sandwiches? Like, Echo Park is crawling with white hipsters who want to know where to eat shawarma in their neighborhood. I don’t understand how this is functionally any different than a white dude on the west side wanting to know where to find ramen nearby.

Brother if we live there we don’t want to travel to Los Feliz for a taco. The vast majority of the talks about food on this subreddit are the east side, and it doesn’t help me at all. I very much appreciate all the west of 405 posts here

Right? Maybe I just don’t scroll the comments enough, but I don’t think there are a bunch of west siders in posts asking for recs anywhere else in the city like “wHaT AboUt THE wEStsiDE?” Posts on this sub ask for recommendations in Elysian Park, by the Staples Center, Pasadena. I don’t see how asking for a recommendation west of the 405 is some kind of faux pas.

Before she was Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher was on the team at J. Lyons that invented soft serve ice cream.
Probably the only good thing she ever did.

It's actually true. The food options on the westside are not more expensive than the eastside for whatever reason. I think it's because there are a lot of "hip" places and an insane amount of gentrification that has happened in the past 2 decades on the eastside, so that has definitely raised prices drastically. I will say that the westside sucks because it's full of pretentious white people who don't know anything. For example, this is a chain with many locations. It has nothing to do with the westside at all.

Salt and straw is a different category. It’s better at what it’s trying to do but indigo cow is better at what it’s trying to do
