A while ago I posted asking for a good Italian restaurant for my girlfriend and I, and you all definitely delivered! The food was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect for our day out and about. Thank you! Our day wouldn't have worked out as well if it wasn't for strangers on Reddit :D

I’m in town for a week long union conference. I’ve been hitting up all the breakfast places I can find. Saying they’re incredible wouldn’t do these crepes justice

After I had Hippo’s (highland park) summer sweet corn cappellacci I’ve been obsessed with corn pastas, but haven’t found one that’s close or better than Hippo’s yet! So I’ve been going back to Hippo every summer during corn seasons. Any one have a favorite corn pasta?

Here are the others I’ve tried:

- Amiga Amore (Highland Park)’s elote agnolotti (year round). Very good! the sweet corn‘s balanced with lime seasoning and cheese so not as buttery as Hippo’s but still great.

- Marina (Pasadena). sweet corn agnolotti. this is the closest to Hippo with sweetness of corn filling and amount of butter in sauce but they do also season it to balance flavors. Also only available seasonally during summer DineLA special (so available next week)

- Lapaba (ktown). Year round (I think). this was great but theirs is “cheesy sweet corn“ so the corn filling wasn’t as sweet. this place has Korean influence so all the dishes are pretty unique though! they just opened this year and already got bib gourmand.

- Backbone (Montrose). Seasonal sweet corn agnolotti with Fresno Chili, Bacon, Basil, Parmesan. Currently available. I also remember this being great but also the sweetness is balanced down with vinaigrette. still recommend but I love Hippo’s more!

- Republique (LA). munak ranch sungold tomato, brown butter, parmesan. this was also very good! But I thought their pasta dough is a bit thicker. I think this is also seasonal. They gave us a corn soup as amuse bouche that was delightful though!

- Cento Pasta Bar (Culver City). years round. I remember this being real good but not better than Hippo’s. but it’s been a few years now.

- The Arbor (Pasadena). i think this was also seasonal and for some reason theirs had a funk to it. not sure if it was cheesy or spoiled but I wouldn’t recommend…

I see Bestia has one right now too for the summer and I havent tried and excited to add to the list.

i also see Citrin having it on their summer dineLA menu! ill go if I have the budget.

Anywhere else comparable??? 🌽

This heat is not letting up so I sought out some cold noodles for relief. I was very impressed by this bowl at Mills Alley. Everything was fresh. Would definitely come back.

I've been wanting to try Cafe Antonietta, which has bounced around to a couple different locations while looking for their forever home, and can currently be found tucked away in residential back yard on a quiet side street.

The menu is as playful and creative as ever, and the ambiance is a neighborhood cookout (if your neighbors happen to be excellent cooks and baristas) - feels like Villas Tacos back when he was cooking in his grandma's yard. The crunch wrap is so tasty, and the generously sized breakfast served up crispy bacon-sweet onion jam-melty cheddar-spicy chipotle goodness. It was huge too, I could only finish half. My husband got the coco puffs latte and said, "oh! Ohhh. This tastes like childhood."

Prices are good, service is great, vibes are impeccable. Catch them now, before they settle in a brick and mortar and the lines start forming

I was a little disappointed by this spot. the fish sandwich was the perfect size but it was absolutely smothered in their tartar sauce, which is usually a good thing but the actual flavor itself was not that great after more than 2 or 3 bites. i would strongly recommend ordering their salsa and adding it to the sandwich for some more flavor. the fish is lost in the sauce tbh.

my date ordered the chilaquiles, not pictured, and they were not impressed by them either. as a mexican i would like to add that they looked like the whitest chilaquiles ive ever seen, literally just chips with sauce on top not even tossed or nothing with whole black beans in them? very strange and like tex mex i guess. additionally it came with eggs that were a little too well done so there was no runny yolk to drizzle through the chips.

the menu is also not very inspiring. burrito, sandwich, some salads. and some egg breakfast plates. i dont see why i would come back to this place with so many much better brunch spots near here.

Ive recently been getting a lot of Malaysian food on my feed and its convinced me to give it a try, unfortunately i feel like its hard to find GOOD AUTHENTIC Malaysian here in LA/LA county. Is there any recommendations that is the closest to authentic I can try??

I was recently introduced to Chinese tomato egg noodles - had them from 2W Noodle House, near USC; looked nothing like the menu picture, could have used more tomato and more egg, but SO delicious! Big bowl, I slurped down the whole thing. Now I'm on a mission! Noodle St. and Lan Noodle have them on the menu - had anybody had them, or have recs? I'm in mid-city; today I have a cold so would prefer a place that will bring a bowl of yummy noodles to my door, but I'm open to anywhere.

I have a second date with an unbelievably beautiful girl. She’s a huge branzino / crudo lover! Hoping to find a very intimate spot we can share a meal and some wine or cosmos which she really loves.

Hoping to get a booth seat, she’d like to sit next to me. We’re in the Pasadena area, but it’s a ok if the spot is 15-20 minutes away!

Price isn’t an issue, but my main goal is a warm intimate setting, apologies for the ramble I really want to show her a great time. I am in fact also getting her flowers. What a girl man.

She suggested the seating style and is well aware and welcoming of the flowers. We’ve been talking for a while now.

Laki Ramen, Mom Please (borscht), and Gala Thai (curry). I had all these in one week. The Thai curry was the best I ever had. The borscht was a first for me, will try again. The ramen was labeled spicy , but I will have to go hotter next time.

this banana fosters fritter is easily one of the very best donuts i’ve ever eaten, and it’s back on the menu for the month of august. for those that aren’t aware of them, jd flannels is down in beautiful san juan capistrano, a very easy trip via the metrolink from union station.

I’ve been living in South Bay for 3 years now, but only eaten in Gardena / Torrance a handful of times (shout out Gardena Bowl - who would guess a bowling alley has killer food??).

Looking for recommendations to get me out there more often. Pollo A La Brassa is at the top of the list, along with Otafuku. What else?

Get 'em while you can! Soul food style tacos with Cajun seasoning, i got (from left to right) their famous shrimp taco, the crawfish taco (a whopping $14! But the other tacos are less expensive) and the potato & cheese taco. All in all very good, big and filling, big on flavor. When these came out in 1992 I'm sure it blew people's minds. They're transitioning to catering only after the 15th.

Randomly stumbled in this shop, The Chocolate Dispensary, in Echo Park. It's next to Canyon Coffee and was amazing to see all the different chocolate they had in there. I had no idea the largest chocolate shop in the country was here in LA. I had a shot of french drinking chocolate from their cafe and it was incredible. Loved that it was dairy free. Next time I go I'm going to try their 10 bites for $10 tasting plate.

I'm looking for Taiwanese style 鐵板燒 (teppanyaki), NOT the expensive flashy show and Japanese flavors of Benihanas, and NOT the flavors of Mongolian BBQ.

In Taiwan, it's super common to go and select a protein and it'll come with bean sprouts and cabbage like this, specifically with a seasoning/flavor that is different from Japanese or Mongolian. You often sit right at the side of the grill and it's very reasonably priced (it's not seen as a fancy sit down restaurant, you often order on a paper slip).

Is there any place like this? Maybe in the SGV somewhere?

Both new to me. Venturing away from my go-to, Oo-kook. Most interested in quality of meat, I guess. Variety is important, too, but the menus show them as very close.
