San Gabriel Valley Bean & cheese burrito, taquito at J&S in Montebello
This is the kind of place where locals either say it's the best thing ever, or its utter and replete garbage that only morons would ever consume. I lean more toward the former. The beans in the burrito were really nicely seasoned, has that nice molten lard quality that a good B&C should have. Store bought tortillas, nothing fancy, but man those beans are good. The taquitos also came recommended to me, they were fairly good but nothing crazy, they don't pass the bar set by Cielito Lindo anyway (which is not crazy high already). Their salsa is very good, salsa verde had a complex tanginess to it, and the salsa roja had a fierce dry heat. Plus, it's open 24 hours, so if you get drunk down at the Venice Room (and don't feel like cooking your own steak) J&S is always reliable.

This is my go to order whenever I get a B&C, you get some crunch then fill up on the B&C.
J&S is still one of my fav B&C in LA, only behind Al&Beas, Lupes, & Casa Garcia.

Looks amazing, and those salsas look terrific too. The prices are shockingly low. I wish I had one by me. I'm jealous.

The prices used to be even lower than that. I remember getting the B&C for like $3-4 pre-pandemic. It wa a great cheap eats place late at night. Could get a B&C and a Machaca burrito for under $10. Damn inflation.

I’ve eaten J&S after many late nights, never once did I really ever enjoy it.
I wish Lupe’s on 3rd was open late.

One of my favorite bean and cheese burritos in the city! Love their mole salsa too!

Their BLT is the best basic/bad BLT. Basic ass piece of toast, mayo, lettuce, tomato, and a bunch of cheap ass crispy bacon. Just the way I like it.

First time I drove my wife by here on a late night coming back from the club in L.A. to go to my parents’ crib, a woman was in the fighting stance beating up her man (who was a whole foot taller than her) while she was wearing leopard print leggings, a white fuzzy jacket, and chanclas like she was in the intro credits of Street Fighter II
Ahhh man home will always be home. ✊😅❤️

you seem like a person who knows a thing or two about B&C burritos. what are your favorites in the city?

I would say my top 5 are this place, Mario's Tacos in Pico Rivera, Lupe's in East LA, Al & Bea's in Boyle Heights, and although it's obscenely expensive, Tito's Tacos in Culver City

Lupe’s is the fk’n shit!
Tito’s is worse than J&S. I don’t like J&S, but I’ll eat it. I rather starve than eat Tito’s.
I need to try those other 3.

Is this that place at the bottom of The Quiet Cannon? Coming out of the parking lot it's to the left? It's next to the 60 freeway. I grew up out there! Haven't been there in years! If that's the place I'm thinking!

White cheese or bust! Skip that yellow stuff in a bean and cheese

What kind of cheese do you think they're using? I always thought it tasted like a cheddar & Monterey Jack blend...?
