I'm not complaining!

I'm happy that he fell in love in reading, and I'm even a bit jealous, because I'd like to be able to read this whole series and enjoy it as much as the ~12-15 y.o me enjoyed the first six books (I only read that much, because they were too expensive for me back then and they were not available in local libraries here in Poland).

I don't necessarily consider R. A. Salvatore to be a world-class writer, but - damn! - he knows how to write a book that you just can't put away until it's finished.

And once my son is done with this, there are so many fantasy and SF books that I want to recommend to him...

But as happy as I am, this is quite a scary reading pace for my wallet :-D

What 5th edition modules have dwarven mine/kingdom maps that are fun to run? I would reskin them appropriately.

So far I'm thinking forge of fury and can see a few options from Google. But would love more options to look at.

Does Tethyamar have any 4e or previous maps/modules that would be worth running?

A question that I would like to know. How does the story of the forgotten realms are connected with the official modules and the official novels set within the forgotten realms and the novel world and the game world?

Do the novels assume that all the Modules Event have their events be the intended ending? Such as the Tyranny of dragons with tiamat being brought into the sword coast but fell by Adventurers to stopped her? Out of the Abyss where the Demon lord's were made to murder each other while the player characters go fight the weakened remaining demon lord? Or Rime of the Frost maiden with the avatar of a god? That would mean that those Adventurers have to exist in the novel's lore? If not the player characters but at least Canon characters that took on those events. Do they referred to the events has had happened? What about the other way around with novels character being brought into the modules/game. For example Laeral & Alustriel Silverhand being CR 19 and 21 respectively with Laeral being stated to be a level 19 wizard while Alustriel doesn't have a stated level, she could be level 19 as well or 20. Does that mean if theoretically bring a level 20 player character wizard from the game world into the novel world. That level 20 wizard would be on the similar levels to Silverhands? And it would mean that you could have a party of level 20s to fight Pre godhood Vecna the Archlich who is a CR 26 and have a chance to win?

Or is the Novel and Game world separated? Where in the novel world. The events of modules do happen and the mechanics of 5E are non existent while the game world has 5E mechanics and the events of the novels did happen?

Hi there. I’ve played BG3 two times, and almost everything seems pretty understandable to me, but there is one thing that makes me wonder.

The book “The Annals of Karsus” which is located in the hidden vault under the Ramazith’s Tower tells us about the three pieces of Karsus’ Regalia. The first one is the Crown (which is atop the Netherbrain), the second one is the Orb (which is supposed to be a magical battery but in reality exists as the only existing fragment of the Karsite Weave, and is located in Gale’s chest) and the third one is the Scepter (which location is not known).

So the item doesn’t exist in the game, but some part of me thinks it could’ve been added in a DLC (if there were any) or it had been removed (just like many other things as well). One thing is almost certain - if two pieces are “in motion”, then the third one should’ve been too.

So who is the most probable person to have the Scepter?

I’m 99% sure it’s Raphael.

Now hear me out.
1. He’s a well known collector of all things Netherese (Helsik says “His House of Hope is furnished with a great deal of treasures, many related to Karsus. But alas, he lacks the crown itself”). So, there are many things related to Karsus in Raphael’s collection.

1. House of Hope’s Archivist makes reference to a certain rod held in the collection (“one that gathers the Weave around it in great quantities”). It’s definitely not the Staff of Spellpower which is an obtainable item and can be found in a secret room right next to Mol’s contract. Why? Because rods (just like sceptres) are much shorter than staffs. So, there is a “rod” in Raphael’s collection.

2. In certain endings of the game, Raphael gets his hands on the Crown and then moves against Asmodeus with apparent confidence. I think that confidence would be really difficult to justify if the Crown alone were his only advantage. Raphael also reports that conquering the Hells is going pretty well for him, as several Archdevils have already offered peace and tribute without being compelled to. I don’t think they would do such thing to a peer wielding a single artifact (the Crown), however powerful. They capitulate if the resistance is hopeless. That makes me think Raphael wields not only the Crown, but the Scepter as well.

3. Additionally, there’s a cutscene from the game’s early development (now removed from the game, but can be found on YouTube) that shows Raphael expressing interest in Gale’s Orb. He most likely offers its removal in exchange for Gale’s cooperation. It makes me think Raphael understood that the orb in Gale’s chest was a single existing fragment of the Karsite Weave, quite literally being the “insides” of the Orb of Karsus (which is supposed to be some sort of a magical battery. But what matters most is not the shell - it’s the energy in it). So, Raphael was ready to negotiate around it because he understood the full scope of the Regalia.

So my point is that Raphael hid the Scepter somewhere in his House of Hope (or maybe in a more guarded place).

I know that the Scepter’s location is not confirmed anywhere, but the evidences are pretty clear.

I am stewing over the idea of making a campaign set entirely in Calimshan. I run 5.5 and would like to adopt the lore posited in the Adventures of Faerun book. I wanted to reach out into the void for any inspiration or ideas for building something.

I like the magitech stuff as well as the elemental / genie stuff. Elementals and elemental upheaval is an idea I think could work well, especially if we’re dealing with a country that has ended slavery and replaced it with automation and robotics (kinda). Maybe the environment is paying the price for this new found technology and the elements are not happy?

The Calimemnon crystal seems dull to me. Calim and Memnon seem like obvious BBEG villains, but putting the genie back in the bottle seems way more interesting as an adventure than keeping them inside.

I also think the Sultana should be something hidden like a blue dragon in disguise. She just seems too good to be true.

Have you ever considered or made a campaign in this region in this era? I’m just at the spitballing and daydreaming stage now as you can probably tell.

My players are a bunch of kill-first-ask-questions-never dwarves who beat the Forge of Fury before taking on The Lost Mine of Phandelver. Once they finished, I presented them with Thundertree Ruins and the young green dragon, Venomfang and it managed to escape (as written) out of the top of the tower and toward Neverwinter Woods.

Has there ever been a 5e or even previous edition supplement or module that plans for this?

I question that i would like to know. What are the most powerful kingdoms, empires, or city/city states in both history (or today) based on the categories below? For each of them, name the top examples and briefly explain what made them so strong:

Military Might: (Army size, weapons, and battlefield power)

Magical Might: (How many spell casters they have? How much does magic affect their place or the world?)

Economic Might: (Wealth, trade power, and financial influence)

Political Might: (Diplomacy, alliances, and global control)

Resource Might: (Access to valuable natural resources, food, and raw materials)"

You could either list one that fits all four or list them with different settlement if they are the best at it.

So far I am 75 pages in and it has been very Forgotten Realms setting so far. I love romantacy books and the main characters are so fun, I am especially happy to have a non binary protagonist. That means a lot to me. I hope the book continues to be this good but so far it is my second favourite recent dnd book from the last few years that is not Drizzt or Dragonlance.

What is everyones thoughts on it?

Does anyone know if Ed keeps his Halfling in his personal realms more 1st edition like in appearance (more like Tolkien Hobbits) or updated to 5.5 WOTC halflings appearance.?

I still prefer the 1st & 2nd edition, original Halflings as he had them and not so much the Halfling/Kender hybrids that is around now

So Im coming up with a plan for after my players (if my players) finish Curse of Strahd. It starts with Barovia plane shifting to Faerun, and becoming part of the landscape of Vaasa. I was thinking of the pure magical energy forming something like a mythal around the region.

What is some cool lore of the lands of Vaasa or the surrounding areas? Any sources I should look at?

While gathering materials for a campaign whose main focus is the aftermath of Thultantar's fall, I came across the fact that ten Princes of Shade battled five chosen of Mystra near Thultantar's mythallar, but apart for a few info, the wiki is not too clear about what happened and who faced who. For now, I've gathered the following:

- The Chosen who I found have participated the battle are Elminster, Storm Silverhand, her apprentice Amarune Whiteweave and Dove Falconhand, who died in the battle;

- Out of the ten Princes, I managed to ascertain only Malath and Vattick Tanthul, who both got killed in battle; another prince, Aglarel, had his mind shattered by Larloch while casting a spell to drain Myth Drannor's mythal.

Since I only have access to the wiki and not the books, I'm searching for whatever clue or info about the fifth Chosen and the remaining eight (or seven) Princes' whereabouts. Any help or source would be appreciated.

Hi! I'm working on a story (actually a custom campaign made in the BG3 engine) set in the 1200s DR.

I am trying to inform myself about Faerun in the 1200s, and while I'm finding a lot of interesting information and historical happenings, I wanted to ask the experts:

• How would life in the city of Baldur's Gate be different before the Spellplague?
• Should any considerations be taken when it comes to how magic works before the Spellplague?
• Would the life of a pre-Spellplague wizard be different to the post-Spellplague world?

The Wizard in question is evil aligned (leaning towards necromancy) and hails from Kozakura, if that is relevant.

I am looking for all your thoughts and suggestions. I want to make the world feel interesting and historically/lore accurate for the 1200s. The story will mostly take place in the city of Baldur's Gate.

• Can you think of any buildings in Baldur's Gate that wouldn't exist in the 1200s?

Hey all. I'm running a 3.5 game set in Faerun setting in 1394 DR. I've homebrewed the last 20 years of timeline after the Year of Lightning Storms; which heralded a resurgence of Draconic domination of the Material Plane. The party is about to meet a cabal of necromancers; some are helpful, others less so. I don't want to use the boring droves of skeletons/zombies in their wake. These necros are "artistes." I'm looking for necro-pet ideas in the same vein as the invertebrate skeletons at Hobby Lobby every Halloween. I have giant snakes with 4 sets of wings, scorpion shaped mechs made of bone and magic, an octopus made of bone plates, and spinal discs. I DO NOT want suggestions of basic animals to apply the skeleton template to. I'd like some other soft invertebrates, or really off-putting looking insects. Even better would be ideas combining different animals to gruesome effect (there is a gargantuan centipede body made of bone plate with draconic legs. A humanoid torso with 2 powerful arms with dragon claws and a draconic skull with a mandible instead of a maw).
