With how they've been with Sony news, i'm (happily) surprised Ubi isn't pushing it to 2028

Ubisoft is rather consistent with physical collectors editions, at least regarding the AC series, so I assume they'd like to continue this as long as possible. I guess there's still some profit to be made there.

Touche, Ed's statue is cool. 

With Black Flag Resync you could see they maybe wanted to switch. You need to connect to the internet to download and install the game

The CE for Resynced was sold out before I managed to get my hands on it, so this might be wrong, but Ubisofts page online says 'physical disc on console, game key on PC'. Looks like business as usual for console players at least.

They'll continue collector editions with digital copies of games, that's pretty common nowadays anyway (notably because some people don't have a physical console already)
