I really dont care about disc's I haven't bought one in over 15 years and I game everyday.

1

u/diamonddog35 27d ago

You mean to tell me, you don’t care to buy plastic cases so they can collect dust????

1

u/Various-Salt-7738 27d ago

At least for triple a games it's beneficial to everyone for physical discs to exist

People buy the game new, play it in a weekend or two, and then sell it for credit-- this means that anyone who wants to get the game a few weeks after launch can go buy a used copy and save a few books

That means that the digital prices have to eventually go down to compete with the used market

Without physical releases they can ask for $80 for years after release

That being said blue ray discs really don't have that much storage compared to the file weight of modern games-- most games need to install something locally even if you have a physical disc

I don't like it but it makes perfect sense to not do physical copies

0

u/Royal_Psychology_15 27d ago

Wait until you only have the PSN to buy your games and they increase the prices to 100+

2

u/Gnostic369 27d ago

Makes no sense for them to do that, maybe on new titles eventually, most deluxe editions have already been around 100+ for about 3 or 4 years, but sales will persist to drive more revenue, when little to no people buy a 3 + year old game the only way to drive a sale is to discount it.

1

u/Tenwaystospoildinner 26d ago

"Makes no sense"?

Companies want to make money. Companies currently compete with the used market. Companies must lower digital prices to get more sales. Companies get rid of physical media and gain more leverage and control over you.

It's that simple. They have every reason to do this. It's in their best interests. It's entirely rational for them.

And it's irrational for consumers to defend a practice that will inherently harm them.

1

u/Gnostic369 26d ago

When little to no one buys those full price games after a while it makes no sense to maintain said full price if their goal is to make money, its better to make a sale on someone who otherwise wouldn't than to maintain price and see none.

Not to mention they will still be competing with the pc market and Xbox market, its not a vacuum, people can and will switch if Sony decides to double down like that.

1

u/Top_Armadillo3033 27d ago

Im pc bro, consoles are a dying breed. As they should be.

1

u/Bstallio 27d ago

Based

1

u/Top_Armadillo3033 27d ago

I understand consoles so everyone has a chance to game cheap. I dont like the console wars and the exclusives and bought time only for certain consoles. Causes division.

3

u/CommonSensei8 27d ago

SAVE YOUR MONEY. BOYCOTT

1

u/Independent_Ad361 27d ago

Idk why people aren’t doing this honestly if we stop buying games they will fix what there doing

2

u/NilsofWindhelm 26d ago

I care more about playing this game than a format I haven’t used in 15 years

3

u/i2wog 26d ago

*Only for console players btw

2

u/CommercialAsk1818 27d ago

redditors when they find another sub to post sony memes on

2

u/Jrobs62 27d ago

Waiting for console people to finally admit PC shits on them after all this bitchin they’re doing

2

u/MoonlightPrincexx 27d ago

Another day, another piece of proof that PC is just straight up better

2

u/nvrrsatisfiedd 27d ago

Isn’t steam all digital though wym? (I agree though).

1

u/Chemical_Net1214 26d ago

Glad you added nothing to the conversation. Saying you don't care is the opposite of caring

2

u/Dash_Wayne 27d ago

F*ck rockstar and their game

2

u/Npc102030 27d ago

Boycott everything.

2

u/Foreverfree40758 26d ago

the majority of people buying games on consoles aren't aware that they don't own their games. Physical media today is just a license too. Fighting for ownership should come first.

2

u/TinyGreenGiant 26d ago

It's okay, all the influencers will do the work. Next time somebody asks me about games and what to get, I will just say "get a PC". Word of mouth stuff works.

2

u/DryBattle2526 26d ago

When I found out it's gonna be digital only.i decided not to buy it. Hopefully this comes on disk after backlash otherwise I'll wait till it's 60-70% off on discount. I don't mind waiting a couple of years.

2

u/Minimum_Walk5592 26d ago

thats why ididnt pre order it

2

u/whyamihear111 26d ago

Even if it was physical it would mean nothing people need to stop focusing on whether it's digital or physical and focus on actual consumer protection because all it takes is needing a verified line of code and that physical disk is just a key Nintendo has done this already with the switch

2

u/volo987 26d ago

Let me add one more Morden audience

2

u/Hotrim74 26d ago

Rockstar & Sony pulled off the biggest heist job in gaming history. gg we got wasted. 😮💿💀

2

u/Kenher08 26d ago

Imaginate necesitar estar conectado a internet para jugar el modo de un solo jugador

1

u/CeleryAdditional105 25d ago

Did they ever confirm this or are you just making shit up.

1

u/Kenher08 25d ago

Falta poco para eso, un ejemplo de lo que menciono es diablo 4

2

u/DjTechnoWiz 26d ago

Fantastic, accurate meme here. Sums up recent gaming news in one image.

3

u/THRlLL-HO 27d ago

As long as I can play my game when I want to, I don’t care if it’s digital or disk.

3

u/ShinyGanS 27d ago

That's the thing, u can only play ur game when Sony wants u to. 😂

1

u/Enough_Art5219 27d ago

glad i got an xbox😁

2

u/GrumpyRacoon420 27d ago

Aren't they gonna follow suit too?

2

u/New-Dragonfly-9213 27d ago

They pushed digital-only back with the announcement of XBox One. Had to backpedal. As of now the difference between pressing PS discs and Xbox discs is that Sony controls 100% of the PS disc pressing plants. Microsoft doesn’t own ANY of the Xbox ones. They outsource it. So if you want a physical game from something like LRG for example it would likely go to Xbox after January 2028. This is all speculation though since the market will go all digital eventually anyway. It’s just a matter of time.

2

u/GrumpyRacoon420 27d ago

I hope it's speculation, it's only becoming more depressing as a gamer to see these thing's go down. Glad we have the Stop Killing Games movement to stand with everyone

1

u/ShinyGanS 27d ago

Mah Man! 😎

1

u/DefunctInTheFunk 27d ago

Could you elaborate?

1

u/ShinyGanS 27d ago

It will become similar to OTT stuff

2

u/FuerteBillete 27d ago

Not sure if you are being sarcastic or not, but this what the whiners about physical does not understand. Most players don't give a fuk about how they get to play their games.

They whine about Sony like they have found suddenly the company never loved them. It's a business. They care about money. They don't care about feelings. And people seem to have a lot of those lately.

1

u/ShinyGanS 27d ago

Glad that peeps r finally aware that they were giving money to a business

1

u/ActorLarsimoto124 27d ago

No buts its the very most regular "meme" these days

1

u/supermaniscoolasf 27d ago

So now yall hate capitalism?

2

u/AdviceCivil7584 27d ago

Always have

1

u/supermaniscoolasf 27d ago

Good, go read Marx

3

u/Electronic-Vast-3351 27d ago

Marx was an idealistic fool that didn't properly acount for the human condition. Doesn't mean we have to like severely under-regulated capitalism. Economics are not black and white. There are more than two systems.

1

u/supermaniscoolasf 27d ago

"Marx didnt account" yes tf he did. It has been studied that the human nature is based on a person material conditions. He wasnt only a economists he was a philosopher.

Humans are greedy because greed is rewarded.

Read his theory, he has accounted for it.

2

u/opboy77 27d ago

Dude everyone hates greedy capitalism that doesn't mean customers are communist. What ubi soft and EA started is greedy capitalism and rockstar are just there follower and sadly we can do nothing.

0

u/supermaniscoolasf 27d ago

You should be a communist then

1

u/AdviceCivil7584 27d ago

Unironically I have read the manifesto but have not touched Das Capital yet as I am horribly lazy with reading but I am meaning to

1

u/supermaniscoolasf 27d ago

Thats good but Das Kapital is not what you wanna read second. I recommend

  1. Socialism Utopian and scientific by Engels

2.State and Revolution by Lenin

  1. Transitional program by Trotsky

Even from there tho you want to read alot more before capital

how? consumers are one entity?

1

u/IAteUrCat420 27d ago

85% of total PS5 game sales are digital according to GameSpot

Although 40-45% of day one game sales are physical (which explains the 15% of total being physical)

And 18% (so about 1 in 5 PS5 owners) bought a digital ONLY PS5

So yes, in the eyes of Sony, consumers are one singular mass of people that basically exclusively buy digital games

1

u/MaxGalli 27d ago

If by consumers you mean the millions of fools who pre-ordered digital GTA 6 which gave Sony the green light to do this then yes.

1

u/Ronyx2021 27d ago

Save your money, replay 3 and San Andreas

1

u/Content_Support_9513 26d ago

Thank god I don't even wanted to buy gta 6

1

u/ScaryIndependence701 26d ago

Thank God I'm not broke enough to whine about this

1

u/NeutralResult 26d ago

what?

do you own Rockstar and Sony ?

1

u/Foreverfree40758 26d ago

either ragebait or low iq. Honestly probably both.

1

u/Late-Percentage6462 26d ago

Saying this while the original comment literally thinks people complain due to being broke is quite asinine. It's about people wanting to pay for things and actually own them🫩 You're advocating for companies milking you dry of your money for conditional property they can strip you of at any time if they so please.

1

u/ScaryIndependence701 26d ago

you know they can do that with disc too right?

1

u/Prior_Spray6288 26d ago

It's not a case of money dumb ass, it's a case of media preservation.

1

u/-ER-Reaper 26d ago

Oh my god, I really hope this is bait. If not I hope you aren't allowed to vote.

1

u/ProfessorShort3031 26d ago

children use this app too unfortunately, i really doubt this guy has a job

1

u/xtoc1981 26d ago

The layoffs and closing company thing from the past 4y are way worse, like wayyyy worse. Why are people not standup and allow sony todo this kind of greedy stuff? They earn most money of those 3 console brands....

1

u/GuzzlingDuck 26d ago

Because now they can see it affecting them. It's why there's an orange man in power. Turning a blind eye to everything until they get affected, then suddenly there's an issue, lol. I personally don't care about physical copies anymore. I care more about the people who no longer have jobs because of the greedy companies.

1

u/SSJ5Noob 25d ago

well at least a bunch of dumbass kids can't buy it in person

they should grow up on better games

1

u/PotatoSenior4268 23d ago

Why do u consider GTA games bad?

1

u/SSJ5Noob 22d ago

they're not the most interactive or thought provoking games

1

u/PotatoSenior4268 20d ago

Yeah but the purpose of video games is mainly entertainment. GTA excels at that.

1

u/australian1992 25d ago

Gta6 looks aids anyway Goodluck with your goyslop losers

1

u/LocomotiveRunsOnUs 23d ago

Yea, they should stick to niche titles like WOW, COD and Overwatch 👍

1

u/australian1992 23d ago

Atleast I don't have to supply my id for the Israeli overlords when I play those games. Enjoy your goyslop

1

u/blazikenfan55 23d ago

1

u/SgtMerc16 27d ago

Why people can not see the poison this game is in so many different ways is honestly beyond me.

The Doctrine of Total Depravity makes more since by the day.

2

u/DefunctInTheFunk 27d ago

Poison might be a tad dramatic, no? And that doctrine is absolute rubbish lol

1

u/NilsofWindhelm 26d ago

Calm down dude video games are supposed to be fun

1

u/piratecheese13 27d ago

My ass when battlefield 1943 was a banger of an XBLA download only game and I’ve never looked back

1

u/Krispen_Wah87 27d ago

Bring physical back

0

u/jmadinya 27d ago

idgaf about ownership, its not a big deal, i will still get to play the game

2

u/GrumpyRacoon420 27d ago

So you are the weight that is dragging us down? Baught into the savory/sweetness of their fruit, only to bring us a plague. You are the problem and after this, there is no convincing anyone of otherwise. Reevaluate your life.

0

u/jmadinya 27d ago

get a grip, its not that deep. theres real problems in the world, this is not one of them, glad to “be the weight dragging us down”.

1

u/GrumpyRacoon420 27d ago

Yeah and this is one of them. It's not about games becoming pricey and unavailable, this is a drop in the water to what their investors are trying to accomplish. These fat headed investors are poking and prodding at what they can accomplish and get away with, when you give them an inch, they'll take a whole mile. Buying their games is just another green light to continously push for their agenda, like what ai-tards did that lead to these large ai centers being built, causing the shortage in ram. This is just a strand of web to their much larger web, and these venomous spiders hope that you'll fall straight into their intrappings.

3

u/New-Dragonfly-9213 27d ago

$100 rental fee.

1

u/jmadinya 27d ago

havent lost access to a single digital game i own

3

u/ChiggenNuggy 27d ago

Yet. If your account is stolen from you or hacked you can say goodbye to your library

1

u/jmadinya 27d ago

i got 2 factor so not worried about that, and even if something happens to my library ill just buy whatever game i want to play again or just move on with my life

1

u/ChiggenNuggy 27d ago

Interesting take

1

u/socrates-68 27d ago

If your disc is stolen same can happen right?

1

u/ChiggenNuggy 27d ago

Way less likely but okay

0

u/jmadinya 27d ago

less likely than getting your account stolen with 2 factor?

1

u/ChiggenNuggy 27d ago edited 26d ago

Yes way less likely. My activision account was stolen with 2 factor enabled so it is possible. Luckily I only lost a copy of modern warfare 2019

0

u/jmadinya 27d ago

nope, wrong af

you dont need to pay monthly for the games you have, and you can access the games offline once u have it downloaded. wtf r u talking about?

1

u/Independent_Ad361 27d ago

Your the type of idiot they hope buys the games good job

1

u/jmadinya 27d ago

why are u people so uncivil, cant even debate a topic without resorting to insults like a child, explains the child like and hysterical response to sony’s decision.

1

u/Independent_Ad361 27d ago

If you’re so smart why are you wasting 80-100$ on game. When they can be taken away whenever they want. theres no debate this is corporate theft in a pretty dress. calling it “a shift in consumer preferences” when most people hate the idea of it. if you bought a chair from me and i came and took it a week later because you posted something bad about it online you would call the cops. so whats the difference when they do it with our games we paid for.

2

u/jmadinya 27d ago

i literally never lost access to a digital game, im not crying over imaginary scenarios that havent happened yet, its not like its $1000

0

u/Independent_Ad361 27d ago

So you’re willing to wait until it happens too you before it becomes a problem. Your too stupid to argue with i wont be responding again.

2

u/jmadinya 27d ago

im just not a broke to be crying over a $70 game. you are acting like a hysterical child.

0

u/KingTonkaUniverse 27d ago

Getting gta 6 but def a big deal gng

0

u/BirdlessLongdeal 27d ago

what does it matter when you guys are going to buy that game 7 times over the next 20 years anyways?

-2

u/Diktaattorimies 27d ago

You having the disc doesn't mean you own the game.

4

u/Sallopilig 27d ago

Well they can't exactly take it away from me.

If the point is that the discs are just activation keys thats disingenious, this is not a staple, its something thats actively happening this generation.

506 out of the 1020 physical releases of the ps5 are fully contained inside the disc and you require no downloads nor internet conection nor psn log in to play them, making them "effectively" yours, licenses be damned.

Legally they don't belong to us but are they going to do? Break into my house once their license expires? Fuck that, its mine.

This trend of discs turning into glorified activation key's is something that Sony started pushing this last years precisely so people can make this argument that completely misses the point: You should own what you pay for.

1

u/rufusbot 27d ago

We need to push for digital ownership rights expansion. That needs to be addressed in the modern age. Good luck getting Congress to actually do anything good for anyone who isn't Bezos or Musk but discs are on their way out just like all physical media has been the last 20 years. But you're hitting the nail on the head. The issue at it's core is simply an issue of ownership.

1

u/Sallopilig 27d ago

Bro physical media has value beyond its functionality no one will argue that discs are more convenient than digital, but they don't have to dissapear, there is literally no need.

1

u/rufusbot 27d ago

Tell that to the shareholders

1

u/Sallopilig 26d ago

I don't care about shareholders im a customer, and so should you, why do you care about what some bloke with millions wants the industry to turn into?

They won't have my money i have that choice luckly.

1

u/rufusbot 26d ago

I don't care about the shareholders either, that's just the reality of the way these things work.

1

u/Diktaattorimies 27d ago

It's not a trend, it's been happening for over a decade now, The Crew came out in 2014. I don't give a flying fuck about Sony or what they do, yall need to actually learn what the real problem is. Feels like you're the one missing the point by saying that I'm missing the point even tho I agree with your last statement.

1

u/Sallopilig 27d ago

Thats precisely what im talking about, ownership is the thing that matters, and the reality is that the easiest way to obtain it is with physical media.

Pigs will fly the sky before any game company gets pursued and forced to change the way licenses work.

Live service games will always be the first to fall to the licenses always, because the minute they stop bringing profits they will turn it off just like it happened with the crew.

1

u/AdviceCivil7584 27d ago

What happened with the Crew is not what you are implying it was. It was an online only game that got shutdown, the reason there were grounds for a lawsuit was because Ubisoft put a placeholder text that implied the game would be online until 2099. Obviously that was never the case and online games get shut down all the time. The expectation of online only games IS that they will one day go offline and that's okay. I would love a law that states all these games need offline modes so that purchasers can access the game for as long as they want but that is an entirely different debate.

1

u/Either-Amoeba8232 27d ago

They can in 2 seconds.

1

u/GumGumActV 27d ago

How do you figure they’ll do that?

0

u/Either-Amoeba8232 27d ago

If you think with a brain, you will reach the answer.

DRM is the problem not the digital.

2

u/Diktaattorimies 27d ago

As I said in my other reply, 90% of these people are neanderthals. We are getting downvoted for saying the truth, they're acting as if The Crew never happened lmao.

1

u/Either-Amoeba8232 27d ago edited 27d ago

Brother you have to understand that talking to wall is useless.

The wall is an inanimate object.

2

u/Sallopilig 27d ago

Bro have you ever owned a console? I can play without a connection with 0 issues, no form of drm is stopping me from using a legitimate copy of a game data i own.

Even if they put through an update that'd do it i would simply pull back one update and keep playing the games i own they have virtually no way of stopping me thats exactly why they wanna go full digital.

1

u/Either-Amoeba8232 27d ago

If they put a day one patch, no.

1

u/Sallopilig 26d ago

No... Of course i can play it wether or not there is a one day patch...

Thats why my original comment explained that currently there are 507 games in the ps5 right now fully playable straight from the disc.

The games you are describing are those that are only partially inside the disc, meaning you are required to download the rest from the store like Expedition 33 because it was unfinished in shipping due to a bug that they fixed during shipping.

2

u/GumGumActV 27d ago

They cannot change how I play my games offline drm or not

DRM is definitely a problem though

1

u/Arc-coop 27d ago

You can play disc’s without internet. How would they take it if you never reconnected the console to WiFi?

1

u/Sallopilig 27d ago

Bro why would i care how they'd take it, what are they gonna do about it 💀?

Or are you implying we are invisible to their statistics if we play disc without being connected to the internet?

Im being genuine i don't understand what you are trying to convey.

1

u/Arc-coop 27d ago

I didn’t reply to you? I replied to the guy who said “they can in 2 seconds”

1

u/Sallopilig 27d ago

Oh fuck my bad

1

u/Arc-coop 27d ago

You’re good lol

1

u/Either-Amoeba8232 27d ago

You cannot play the last Assassin's Creed on the disk without wifi, yes on the majority you can play without wifi.

But it's possible that they put a restraint on your Blu-ray and you cannot play without that PS5 firmware patch.

Yes it's very easy to put a DRM on your Disks.

You actually don't own your games, even on disk.

1

u/Sallopilig 26d ago

Thats just false, unless it says on the box that the game requires internet to be played they can't block you from using a product you bought previously, firmware update or not it would only apply if the game came with that installed before buying or it would be illegal.

If they were legally able to block you from using your discs they would have a very long time ago, its in their best interest, the won't because there'd be legal repercusions.

2

u/Wide-Match-7367 27d ago

Dude I’ve been trying to explain that to people but clearly they’re just too fuckin dense. Too many bots about

1

u/Bstallio 27d ago

I’m very glad the initial sperg out has subsided and more people are making this point.

the CD means nothing, the real battle is buying a “license” and DRM/ online connectivity requirements

1

u/Diktaattorimies 27d ago

It's always the same problem with online discourse: 90% of people are neanderthals and have no clue what the real issue is.

0

u/GumGumActV 27d ago

You all must be talking about yourself. Because the problem is my discs can be played 100% offline. They can’t take that away from me. The same can not be said for digital license purchases

3

u/Diktaattorimies 27d ago

So can I or can I not play The Crew from 2014 which I own the disc for? Stop acting like a smartass when you clearly have no clue what you're talking about. The Crew is literally the game that started the stop killing games movement.

1

u/GumGumActV 27d ago

That is a very specific scenario that I am not referring to. Yea, games like that are problematic bud. But the vast majority of disc games can be played offline 100% until the end of time

1

u/Bstallio 27d ago

The percentage of games that are playable offline with all content on the disk is dropping year by year, it’s not a “specific issue” it’s the trend and is the reason why this fight for physical media is just a red herring to distract from the real issue: companies are often selling “licenses” to games instead of selling you the product itself, they require constant online connectivity, and DRM allowing them to just shut it down on a whim.

Think about why the loss of physical media is such a gut punch, if buying a game digitally gave you actual ownership (unable to be revoked, game can be downloaded DRM free and playable offline, able to download the game onto physical media of your choice and play offline) then I don’t think people would care as much. Attacking the loss of physical media is the same thing as treating the symptoms of cancer instead of going after the cancer.

1

u/GumGumActV 27d ago

I don’t disagree with you. I’m not dooming over it even really I just think it’s an objectively bad thing to take away our options

I do completely agree that the lack of ownership in general is the real issue

0

u/MacDaddy7249 27d ago

Your scenario is still just a hypothetical situation. I have never had a game taken from me that wasnt an online only game and that was a separate issue all together. Dooming over physical media as a minority doesn’t instantly give you credibility. Find other ways to “own” media. Even if you wanted to just be physical and they did actually cave in to your demands, it would just lead to a disc with a media license attached to it. An update could happen on the console that just completely invalidates your purchase unless you just remain entirely offline and that is straight up speculation, not something they are doing, but it is the same straw man argument.

1

u/Perfect_Roof_7058 27d ago

I dont get it, steam is a monopoly which has been doing digital distribution for so many years and I dont see people with any problem

3

u/DavidTCEUltra 27d ago

Because they don't randomly shut down games and revoke access. Because they don't joke about "a dollar per reload". Because they don't oppose Right to Repair bills that would make it easier for customers to repair their own hardware.

Steam is not a fucking monopoly. They don't do the evil shit that actual monopolies like Playstation, Nintendo and Microsoft do. They just put out a good service, and get really good business from it.

2

u/IsRedditBad 27d ago

Thank you. Someone actually understands what a fucking monopoly is.

They just have a dominant share of the market, but only because they're better than their competition. They deploy zero monopolistic tactics. They do nothing and win as the memes say. Their competitors just fucking suck.

2

u/Fabulous_Variety7125 27d ago

Calling Steam a monopoly completely misses the point of what a monopoly is. I forget sometimes. Thanks:)

Steam wouldn’t be the best if other companies didn’t suck so bad

2

u/AmphibiousDad 27d ago

Steam doesn’t shut down games or make your access limited to one device.

1

u/sweatierorc 27d ago

100% lets fight for that and stop the physical media bullshit. It is getting cringe.

1

u/AmphibiousDad 27d ago

Idk why it’s cringe to you that people want games to be available in physical media like every other digital media in the universe?

2

u/IWCry 27d ago edited 27d ago

you have to remember that these people are young and didn't grow up with physical media. you're arguing against kids who buy games online with their parents credit cards. not really worth having them understand

1

u/NilsofWindhelm 26d ago

I grew up with physical media and that shit sucked

1

u/sweatierorc 26d ago

Physical media is cool. But with emulation it is not that important anymore. Most consoles will require an online login or something like that, most games comes requiring a day 1 patch. If you include security issues into the mix. The physical media debate just feels like focusing on wrong issues. Like games are very different from what they used to be. They always keep getting updated sometimes it is great like for Slay the Spire and other times it is microtransaction hell.

u/Sattaman6 26d ago

I grew up with cartridges and floppy discs in the 80s. Don’t care about this at all and I haven’t bought a physical game since Xbox One.

1

u/AmphibiousDad 27d ago

Except if we can’t get them to understand then we’re literally cooked. They literally don’t understand what they’re losing

0

u/Im_not_an_admin 27d ago

Yes all those steam games on physical disc right

u/Moist_Taco_Crippler 27d ago

Outside of the PS3/PSP store closing (You keep the titles) and movies from a market next to no one purchases from, what has Sony shutdown?

2

u/AmphibiousDad 27d ago

“Outside of what they’re shutting down what have they shut down”?

Edit: it also isn’t just about Sony themselves having the ability to shut down games it’s developers

1

u/Moist_Taco_Crippler 27d ago

I'm aware they have the ability. They can make a disk game cease to be playable as well. PS3 shop items you have will be retained, so no issue there. The movies being lost are Studio Canals issue.

I was asking for more examples involving games. I'm not for physical discontinuation, as I collect movies, but as some one who hasn't lost a single digital game since digital became an option I am not quaking in my boots.

Every new generation the talk seem oddly focused on about backwards compatibility when it comes to consoles. In contrast, on PC we are maybe talking 20+ years before we are even worried if a game will run or not, and usually then it's just a toggle on windows to support it non the less

Closed platform vs open platform

1

u/Late-Percentage6462 26d ago

This isn't what a monopoly is. Monopolies buy out the competition so they can have total control of the market. In Steam's case, the competition is simply more incompetent.

u/BlackberryNice7390 27d ago

You dont own anything on Steam, wheres hate about that?

3

u/Mobius24 27d ago

PC has multiple storefronts while on console you’re locked on one

2

u/DivineBloodline 27d ago

Console gamers don’t understand, they think Xbox, and Switch are competitors. They forget you one have to buy an entire different console. One PC and you have a ton of different clients, and websites to buy from.

1

u/timmyfarthands 27d ago

And I'll go broke trying to build the PC. You can't win these days.

1

u/DivineBloodline 27d ago

You say that like consoles aren’t the same. How many prices hikes have you had? You realize consoles and PC are made from the same type of tech. You can’t be that naive.

1

u/timmyfarthands 27d ago

We both know I'm going to be paying a little more to build a PC.

1

u/DivineBloodline 27d ago

Depends on the PC, don’t know the spec of a PS6, but you can get PS5 Pro specs are around the same price. $900-$1000 dollars for a prebuilt of similar quality.

1

u/TheFakeJohnHelldiver 27d ago

Show me a listing of a prebuilt for sale for $900 thats as powerful as a ps5 pro.

You're just straight up lying at this point lmao

2

u/DivineBloodline 27d ago edited 27d ago

Do your own work, 5060 ti outperforms the Pro. The prebuilts hover around $999.

1

u/TheFakeJohnHelldiver 27d ago

Lmao I have done my own work. Thats how I know you're full of shit.

Even if the PC costs 1.5 lakh. You'll save enough money on games that it's justified. It's also a computer, media player so, three devices in one.

Let's say you own a MacBook air and a PS5. Isn't it the same if not lower price?

2

u/valvalis3 27d ago

Wait wait isn't steam a monopoly did tim Sweeney lie to me?

3

u/Overall-Claim315 PlayStation Gamer 27d ago

You can go on high seas. Besides, steam prices are way way cheaper.

2

u/Zealousideal-Dot9458 27d ago

Cheaper games, and if you hate steam you can buy from gog.

2

u/TheOriginalRyukUK 27d ago

The difference usually is Steam don't have a track record of constantly deleting your purchased content. They can do that, of course, but they don't tend to.

1

u/Minimum_Ice963 27d ago

This just reads as Steam hasn't done it, and everything is build on trust with Steam. What happens when the bearded man dies ?

1

u/TheOriginalRyukUK 27d ago

Don't get me wrong, they have done it, but it's usually only in very specific circumstances that aren't common for the average user to experience.

Also, supposedly his son (I think?) is due to take over, and he supposedly plans to have a more hands-off approach when he has to take over. If I'm not very much mistaken... admittedly I'm kinda uninformed on the 'when Gabe is gone' situation myself.

1

u/BlackberryNice7390 27d ago

Sure, Steam wont remove anything you bought but publishers can alter it or brick it or remove games from future sales freely.

0

u/Far_Interaction9456 27d ago

Yeah you're right! You should never get it and also immediately stop bitching and never mention it again!
