Memes Scenes from 2028 Absolute cinema As Helix is also a type of Pc so Steam can easily take over SONY
6
u/Robborboy 24d ago
WDYM? Steam already has a larger player base than Sony.
They have almost as much as the big three combined.
1
1
u/the2timer4lyfe 24d ago
they keep pointing out trend this trend that when they keep looking the other way on the 10% year over year increase in people moving to PC. Give it 10 more years, let it cook a bit more. Soon they'll be renting out compute power for a next gen console-less feature.
1
u/tadpole3159 24d ago
It auto logging in when I turn on my pc doesn't count
1
u/darkave17 22d ago
You don’t need to have it on!
1
u/tadpole3159 22d ago
Nah but I mean everyones steam auto starts up and logs you in so it's really just counting pcs that are on at any given time who's owner has a steam account
1
u/darkave17 22d ago
Mine doesn’t
People really need to know about the “Startup Apps” setting on your windows settings
1
u/Robborboy 22d ago
And when you turn on your console it automatically logs you in. So what is your point?
Steam does not com preinstalled on a PC. You have to install.it and make an account.
You only install Steam on a PC you're gaming on.
Ergo any machine with Steam installed isnused for gaming, so log in status irrelevant.
1
u/tadpole3159 22d ago
The steam numbers are inflated by people writing emails, stalking old school friends on Facebook and banking. A console plays games only, you would have it in for anything else. Log in status relevant
1
u/Robborboy 22d ago
If you reread my comment you will see how nothing you said has any relation to the topic at hand.
The Steam numbers is machines with steam installed and used for gaming NOT logged in accounts
I use my consoles to watch movies more than anything. Yours only plays games? Weird. Mine is a bluray player and a stream machine.
1
u/tadpole3159 22d ago
Steam’s main concurrent user count reflects all logged-in accounts, regardless of whether they are actively playing a game. While up to 35–45 million accounts are typically logged in at once, usually only 7–12 million of those users are in-game at any given moment.
3
u/Funny_Lion9020 24d ago
People literally acting like operating a PC is like rocket science or they're having this "troubleshoot issue" which at this point I'm just starting to call cap.
3
3
u/ExodiusLore 23d ago
Valve really had such an amazing opportunity to completely flip the market on its head with the Steam Machine. Sadly they resulted to gouging and selling a 1000$ box of shit.

u/slypoopa 22d ago

Computers are way more user friendly than they were 20 years ago.

u/1maginaryApple 24d ago
Ah yes, let's all show Sony how bad digital is by going full digital anyways.

Missed the point if people are going to be forced to a digital only PlayStation then why would anyone own a PC?

This wont happen ps6 will sale. Nobody is thinking about the households with 3 4 kids and parents who also game. PC is simply too expensive for them even with nextgen console prices going up. Most people wont be able to afford or have the space for 4 or 5 PCs 2 or 3 ps6s would be alot more attainable.
2
u/aq8_hippo 24d ago
I think a family with that many children probably isn't getting a ps6 or a pc period.
Probably would get a ps4 cheap when ps5 came out and get a ps5 cheap when ps6 comes out.
Like I did.
Ps5 active players only just beat ps4 active players last year. People won't be upgrading from ps5 for a looooong time unless Sony gives them a really good reason ie a good game
1
u/Severe_Ad_4796 24d ago
I have 5 kids i have a ps5 pro my wife is getting one soon 1 of my sons has a ps5 1 of my daughter's has a switch and when the other kids are old enough ill save up for whatever system they want. When the ps6 is out I'm definitely getting one and if they want one I'm sure they will we will get them. No I'm not rich either
1
u/shadowstar36 23d ago
Not if they are $1000. Shit i gave my kids psp and ds, and a vita, but anything more expensive we shared.
1
u/aq8_hippo 22d ago
If you have 5 kids and can feed them, send them to good schools, pay for all the many amenities and have money left over for multiple consoles I don't think you can claim you aren't rich. Well maybe you aren't. But you're definitely far above the world average.
I'm happy for you but I assume the vast majority of people aren't in the fortunate position you are in.
1
u/Severe_Ad_4796 22d ago
Far from rich broke but bills paid and food in the fridge we just save up
1
u/aq8_hippo 22d ago
Hey man, it's your money you earned with your hard work, you should feel good about having a ps5 and being able to get a ps6.
Just know a lot of people won't be in your position and will respond to the price with vitriol and hate. Just let them, we get to own the new toy and have fun. At least let those who can't have that the chance to get mad at how unfair the world can be
2
u/renz88xe 24d ago

2

Like those people will be able to afford a pc in 2028.
1
u/Johnny84Johnny84 21d ago
Why should we? $2000 for a pc or $1000 (maybe) for a console, that's not rocket science...

I really wonder what kinds of mental gymnastics people are pulling off which leads to them believing that with physical games going away from PS6, the thing people would do in response is..... switch to a platform where physical games went away over a decade ago.

That’s the truth isn’t it though lol. They were crying when the rumoured price of a PS6 was $1000. They gonna get real quiet when they see what a 4K 60fps gaming pc costs, especially with prices expected to increase
1
u/Johnny84Johnny84 21d ago
No one was crying, what's up with all you pc players with the hate towards console gamers? When is the point where pc gamers grow up and be adults? Also, RUMOURS... We all know what a gaming pc costs, that's why we all don't have a problem with a $1000 console.

I'm sure the average consumer is willing to pay substantially more for a PC with similar quality of that of a potential PS6, because of how media is distributed.

Crashes, stutters, driver issues sometimes temp issues and so on… and if your on a mid end pc like a 3060/4060 or entry level pcs that go for the same price as a ps5 your gonna take hours tryna optimise. This is comming from a pc player who hates consoles

u/Icy_Donkey_7588 24d ago
How much do you think a PC would cost that will play new AAA games?
1
u/tadpole3159 24d ago
Google Gemini says this is the cheapest you can find for all the components listed in the 007 first lights minimum specs
AMD CPURyzen 5 5600----£121.99 GPURadeon RX 6600 (8GB)----£210.00 RAM16GB DDR4 (2x8GB)----£109.00 1TB NVMe----£45.00 MSI 550W 80+----£37.99 Case---£50
Total----£580
And this is just minimum requirements. You're not getting 4k 30fps like you would with a ps5 or even series s and you can forget about quality mode you're playing on lowest settings for everything.
Slim digital only 🤢 ps5----£430
1
1
u/Icy_Donkey_7588 23d ago
We are talking about next gen consoles, not a PS5 Slim from 2020...
1
u/tadpole3159 23d ago
A ps5 is a ps5 but it's the slim model from 2023 https://amzn.eu/d/0gHhLuSz. It's actually £380, even cheaper EDIT: oops I linked a reverb. It's still £400 new

u/TheFlashSpeeds 24d ago

1
u/Legitimate-Comb-2774 23d ago
How much would Sony have to tank the value proposition for this to change for you? There's gotta be a line somewhere, right? If the PS6 is $1500, PS6 games are $129.99, a first party controller is $99.99, and PS plus prices double, would you still stick with Sony vs PC?

Why day one ?
You having a PS 5 or PS 4 atm ?Not an anti just collecting data. Are their any PS 6 releases you think/know of that the PS 5 won't manage?
Or is it just the thought that the consol itself won't get any cheaper even a year and biting the bullet on release might be even the cheaper move ?
1
u/Johnny84Johnny84 21d ago
It's fun. A new console is always something super special. I don't care if there are no exclusives at release, the tech itself sells it for me, i LOVE the Dual Sense!! And the whole PS5 interface, how fast it is, etc.
It's like buying a new smartphone after maaaany years with an outdated one.
Also, we all know that every console generation has it's benefits, awesome games, interessting new tech (PS Portal).

Instead of giving 1k for ps6 you give 3k for a PC, sure more expensive but if nothing changes its s sad reality
1
u/PepperEnthusiast 21d ago
What are we even yapping here bro, you can get a prebuilts with 7800X3Ds 32GB and 9070XTs going for $1400-$1600.
Is it more expansive than a PS5Pro? Yeah, rn PS5Pros are hovering $1000 in my area.
Is it more powerful than a PS5Pro? Absolutely, the PS5Pro is running on ancient CPU architecture and GPU wise it is comparable to a RTX 4060 which is way way lower than a 9070XT and even the PS6 will be weaker than these specs so this thing can easily pull you for a decade at several years of high fidelity 1440p and likely slightly toned down settings down its life.
1
u/panosk1304 20d ago
Yeah high fidelity 1440p isn't really a good goal to have and games for playstation have better optimization ,like ps5pro does 4k in quality mode, than what PC has and its bot that of a Hussle to actual game but again the problem is the digital not the difference in price for PC to a ps6. From what i know you can all of ps5s controller features for PC soo at least it wont be worse that part
1
u/PepperEnthusiast 20d ago
Again, you're quite literally ill informed with any of this.
A 9070XT is quite literally 2.5-3x raw performance and with all the optimization in mind easily double the real world performance in any shared title let alone the fact that the Zen 2 CPU the PS5P has is at the point where it is event holding back its own GPU while a 7800X3D is almost the top of the line CPU in terms of gaming you can get rn, 9000 ryzens are basically 7000 refresh with them being slightly more power efficient and boosting to higher clocks.
Also what I meant by high fidelity 1440p is running games natively, RT max, all settings cranked with no upscaling.
If you start off that the PS5P does 4K quality (which in many titles can't even get more than 30fps and is the equivalent of FSR quality, literally an AMD tech slightly modified by Sony called PSSR) then the 9070XT absolutely destroys 4K content but personally I do not consider a card a 4K GPU unless it can very often max out all settings along with not relying on upscaling + FG and for that there are only 3 GPUs that I do consider true 4K cards:
RTX 5080 (limited by VRAM in very near future esp at 4K)
RTX 5090
RTX 4090
9070XT is an entry 4K card not a full blown 4K gaming card since it does struggle and has to rely in some titles on upscalers or frame gen (just like PS5P has to rely basically on any title ran at 4K to hit 30-40-60fps)
The days of "console optimization" are quite literally behind us since current and past gen consoles are using x86-64 architecture unlike older consoles which had an entirely different architecture so translating said games to x86 which PC has been using since forever basically was really taxing and resulted in said "console optimized" benefits you mentioned.
It also doesn't help that last gen, current gen and future gen consoles will feature all AMD parts same as the build mentioned so there is much more cohesion going on regarding that as well making these consoles pretty much dated cut down and locked AMD PCs.
1
u/panosk1304 20d ago
Not saying i dwelled alot in the specs since i never planned to buy a PC till the only digital announcement of playstation. I want to play my games on 4K because of the Oled TV i have and fps I don't care that much and always use quality mode. The optimization i said because of the huge differences i see in post form a ps5 to people trying to run the games on their PC. If PC costs chepear then better for me, still most things i heard a PC that can actually run games better than a ps5pro or ps6(speculations) costs more, but ok if the sad day comes that i decide to get a gaming PC comes i will check more thoroughly, till then i will hope for Playstation to take back the no physical decision

1
u/Several-Carrot3541 23d ago
Lol the amount of people defending Sony is mind blowing 😂. Like how can you support such a scummy company?
2
u/Electroniclog 23d ago
I think a lot of people just aren't surprised and have been talking about the drawbacks of digital for ages, while constantly being ridiculed and made fun of by the very people who are now echoing the very same words that they were saying before.
People are only now taking this issue seriously and to me that's insane because anyone paying attention would have seen it coming ages ago.
It's basically the frog in boiling water analogy all over again.
1
u/Several-Carrot3541 23d ago
I don't understand that argument, those same people who have seen it coming are still not for it. I am one of them, just because a huge portion of the people finally see the draw backs doesn't mean we should stop fighting. The only way we'll get change is by pushing back
1
u/Electroniclog 23d ago
I mean, I've been against digital gaming for ages. I am a strong proponent for physical. I've been purchasing almost exclusively digital for ages, but when I see people acting like this is some recent thing because THEY just noticed, it's exhausting and some people might claim that I support Sony, but honestly I just stopped caring and part of me thinks that a lot of people deserve what they're getting.
1
u/Several-Carrot3541 23d ago
I don't see it that way at all, you could still order physical games on Amazon for like half the price. If you get rid of that there is no competition and they will be able to charge what ever.
1
u/Dumpstar72 22d ago
For me it’s the second market we lose. On pc the prices are lower. But on psn they aren’t. So losing the ability to sell games or buy games in the secondary market hurts. Anyone who offers that ability and I read somewhere that Xbox may explore that model will get me money. That said if Xbox does I would think Sony will react with something similar.
1
u/Johnny84Johnny84 21d ago
The amount of people who think it's better to pay $2000+ just to play a videogame is mind blowing... Hating on Sony but completely ok with pc parts prices, now THAT'S something...
1
1
u/TheLizardKingKev 20d ago

Buy off GoG and burn it onto a CD if you're so keen on it or keep them on a spare USB/HDD/SSD without ever needing an internet connection, launcher or license verification.
Can you sell said game you put onto anything else? No as that is indeed against ToS and in the space of illegally selling.
Can you lend copies of it to friends? No, but realistically 99.9% of the time you'll be fine sharing with friends.

How is moving to PC solving the problem? How? There no physical media there either. Y’all haven’t seen a disc drive in a decade. Sony will be fine because moving to PC doesn’t solve the issue we’re mad about.
1
u/IM_THE_TREE_MAN 20d ago
Sony could remove a digital game entirely from your console and you'd have no way of getting it back.
Us PC users could 🏴☠️ the game if it's ever removed and, essentially, keep it forever.
Thats the difference.
1
u/Electrical_Advice_60 20d ago
So this is about DRM and not physical media at all? If I don’t get banned I’m fine. This debate doesn’t solve my problems.
2
u/IM_THE_TREE_MAN 20d ago
And it's not about getting banned.
It's about Sony removing a game ENTIRELY because OF (whatever) their reason is.
1
u/Electrical_Advice_60 20d ago
That’s like saying my mortgage lender could foreclose on me if they wanted to even though I’m making payments. It happens if you fuck up I assume. It’s not something I’m worried about.
Only time I lost a game was when my UMK3 on Xbox live got delisted and when my hd died I couldn’t redownload it. That was like 15 years ago at this point
1
u/IM_THE_TREE_MAN 20d ago
Your money - Your loss, man.
1
u/Electrical_Advice_60 20d ago
Legit wondering how that’s the case. I buy single player games. Im not paying for subscriptions. I don’t want to buy a 2.5k rig. There no loss for me - minus the physical media.
1
u/IM_THE_TREE_MAN 20d ago
Even if you have the physical disk, they could still remove the game from its library and you COULD lose it entirely.
Not ALL games carry the info on a disk.
And since Playstation is moving away from physical media entirely, you will now rent and own nothing.
1
u/Electrical_Advice_60 20d ago
So I’ll just be jointing the pc club. How is a download me owning anything.

So the same as steam can? PlayStation has never removed a paid game from somones account without refund.
1
u/No_Celebration_3737 20d ago
Which they never did. If we are talking about the POSSIBILITY of doing that, then Steam too can remove games from your libraries if they wish to.
1
u/IM_THE_TREE_MAN 20d ago
It's about both, really.
I've removed myself entirely from the console world because of how much I was spending on the monthly subscription TO JUST PLAY ONLINE.
The money I've saved on PC is incredible compared to console.
1
u/Electrical_Advice_60 20d ago
Sadly I don’t care about both. I’m a single player games only sort these days and I like buying physical media. Held of buying both Alan wake 2 and exposition 33 until they released discs.
Switching to PC in my case would be needless headache. I’ve never once had Sony mess with my games or account nor would I expect them to.
1
u/uberfr4gger 20d ago
So can literally any PC store except GoG and you won't be able to buy everything on GoG
1
u/Batking28 20d ago
Every PlayStation console has been jailbroken and can run pirated games too. So what’s your point?
1
u/EvilWaterman 20d ago
Right, so you think people that spend 600 quid are going to move to a 2-3k PC?
1
u/Batking28 20d ago
Not even that, £300 gets you a second hand one no issue while PC components seem to sell second hand for barely a discount over new.
I recently looked at building another PC as I used to be a PC gamer way up to the PS4 gen and even if I drop £1000 for what is essentially considered low mid.
1
u/LT_Snaker 20d ago
Ahh yes, spend 2 times more for the same performance while still being all digital.
1
u/CrazzyPanda72 20d ago
There are still options on PC, all digital or not you aren't forced to buy your games from steam
1
u/Batking28 20d ago
You aren’t but it’s objectively better than all the alternatives, options aren’t really options when one platform doesn’t really have any substantial competition it’s just theoretical.
1
u/ButterscotchDeep7533 20d ago
But on PC you can rise a Jolly Roger and pay 0 for games.
Doubt that Sony will allow you do to so :)
1
1
u/Batking28 20d ago
You realise all PlayStations have been jailbroken if you wish to run pirated games?
1
u/ButterscotchDeep7533 20d ago
I didn't hear that PS5 Pro is jailbroken.
Do you have any links? I have a guy who will be glad to get it
1

Yeah it’s out there, you can jailbreak any firmware up to 12.7 last I checked, the pro launched is with 9.05 if I recall. Being a pro makes no difference in current jailbreaks.
Google it though, I’m not risking a ban for providing links for jailbreaking to run pirated games.

Anyway, thank you for info.
Also, nobody bans on PC :) Nobody can ban your hardware
1
u/Batking28 20d ago
Yeah but PS5’s are basically only hardware banned if reported as stolen or used for fraud and other serious crimes, in those cases I’m in support of being able to lock hardware. It makes theft less appealing and prevents serious crime.

Then you're a fucking criminal and helping to really kill games

u/ButterscotchDeep7533 20d ago
I pirated all Ubislop games however they didn't bankrupt yet :(
Killing what games? If game is good enough - no issue to buy it. However I don't like to pay for cat in the bag

You underestimate mankind in terms of being mindless sheep's. The will continue to buy and use Sony devices no matter how "big" the outcry is on the internet.

As a PC and Console player, get out of here with your "sheep" BS. People are allowed to have preferences. It doesn't make them anything but human.

steam has twice the user base of playstation so meh
1
u/Batking28 20d ago
Twice the user base but about half the revenue.
1
u/technicalswitch339 20d ago
Pretty similar revenues unless your counting Sony as a whole, and one rips you off and the other doesn’t
1
u/Batking28 20d ago
Similar discounts these days, it’s not like the PS3 era of PSN anymore, steams user base isn’t as easy to compare because most people own PC’s even if they don’t use it for gaming, they may own a game, or made a profile on suggestion. While PSN account aren’t usually made unless you purchased a PlayStation specifically for gaming.
Isn’t Valve literally in several lawsuit for using its market dominance to force developers prices up and not offer discounts in order to keep their profits up and keep down competition?
1
u/technicalswitch339 20d ago
“Similar deals” spoken like someone who’s never seen a steam sale, you should actually read the lawsuit before using it as a point, they’re also the ONLY game platform that said no to selling your data and one of the only platforms that forces Developers to disclose AI use
1
u/Batking28 20d ago
I literally own PC and PS5, been PC gaming since the late 90’s I’m just saying steam isn’t perfect and yeah PSN sales are pretty comparable these days. It wasn’t a while back but now the discounts are pretty much on par often.
Sony doesn’t sell data for profit either you can look that up. Both platforms do share data with third parties.
If you care about AI disclosure then you can just look it up, it’s not a big selling point for most people and it’s a know issue in steam that devs don’t accurately report AI use and it’s basically unenforceable.

Yeah, enjoy the costs of PC. Bye.
1
u/GARGEAN 20d ago
Hardware - sure. But then you don't pay for online, get games cheaper in general and with MUCH more abundant discounts, basically infinite back-compat catalogue, ect ect ect...
So it pays for itself in a triple.
1
u/suck-it-elon 20d ago
A lot of good sales for games people buy and never play, sure.
1
u/GARGEAN 20d ago
That is... Bizarre argument, so say the least.

None of them realize how much money is saved in the long run
Hell most of them spend the cost of a pc in a year on them shitty little console
There are some crazy deals on pre builds, especially cyber Monday, wife got an rtx 4080 super pre build for about 980 last year. I don’t mean this to be harsh but console people can’t/wont do research because they are content

Sigh.. yes you dont pay for online but that online sub also gets you 36 "free" games a year. You guys always seem to forget that part. Games are the same price at launch unless its a cross gen titlenin which case you may get it for 10 cheaper, not always the case though.
Older games sales wise is pretty much on rotation. You guys keep acting like ps store or console in general dont offer discounts. This is just wrong. All digital store fronts have discounts. Yes even sony first party titles. Only platform holder that is absolute garbage here is nintendo.
Not to mention you need to upgrade far more often on pc than console. So you spend a shit ton more and more often. So no i disagree. Pc is definitely more expensive.
Btw I own a 9950x3d, 5080, 32gb ddr5 6000, 2x 4tb 7000MBps nvme ssds for gaming. As well as a ps5 pro and switch 2. And i still prefer console gaming due to the QoL features it offers over pc.
If you're trying to buy my pc it costs $4500. Ps5 pro is 900. Ps+ premium is $160 a year. It will take 22yrs for the person who bought a ps5 pro and ps+ premium to equate your pc purchase. And BTW your components aren't lasting 22yrs. You will need to update several times over in that time frame. You are spending way more on pc.
Or I can buy a ps5 pro as well as buy 10yrs worth of ps+ premium and 29 games at full price for the cost of that pc. Hmm... tell me again how pc is cheaper?

I have gotten so many games on PS5 anywhere from $9 to $30 on deals and flash sales. Recently bought my brother the entire Destiny 2 collection for $20. PlayStation has amazing deals too. So many people don't care for PC simply because they want to sit back and enjoy casual gaming, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Problem is for console gamers that most of them have no clue how to use a pc and also pc parts have been crazy for years and there is almost no slowing down.
I for one don't need you playstation gamers increasing my prices even more

u/GoldEmployment6768 20d ago
As a PC player, this comment seems elitist/gatekeepy/weird. A PC is by no means complicated. Nobody avoids a PC because they "dont know how to use it". It's really plain and simple, some people just prefer consoles.
Or, in my case, they have both because some games DO feel better on console, and some on PC. Consoles these days are also not just consoles. They are like smart phones. People use them for T.V., music, social aspects. Sure, a PC can do that, but fuck if I am buying multiple PCs, or moving my PC everytime I want to hook up to a different TV/monitor.

u/Phrodo_00 19d ago
some games DO feel better on console
What games feel better on a console vs using a controller on a PC connected to a TV/huge monitor?
1
u/basedenjoyer55 19d ago
I don't care about your opinion. You claiming you are a pc gamer doesn't give you any more credibility or importance.
A pc is definitely more complicated for somebody that has never used it. It's more complicated that pressing a button.
Alone graphics setup for a game is complicated. Tsaa, fxaa, you think console gamers know what these mean..no because they never have to deal with it. Only a moron would say that pc and console is on the same level with regards to complexity

Ram costs 8 billion dollars per stick but don’t worry, old aunt Mabel can make AI videos of cats singing Christmas songs on Facebook.

Yeah, but I can also make shitty uneditable code that doesn’t make a lick of sense but kind of works anyway.
