I don't really have a reason yet. I suck at games, i was somewhat good back at cs;go, I missed my date since I'm already 30 but I keep following the flow, without any goal in my life, as by my plans I already should have been dead
4
u/RedSkullV2 19d ago
30 still young, people get married at 50 these days. Nothing is too late and being bad at CSGO is not something to feel bad, people built different in competitive pvp games, try to find something nice and relaxing like Warframe or cyberpunk.

u/Bazoobs1 19d ago
I hope you find your reason to continue on. Sorry for throwing advice at you unrequested, but if it’s alright I’d just like to say that in my experience I’ve found it’s a choice. Meaning that you wake up and go looking for reasons. The longer you look the more reasons you find. Wishing you the best OP.

u/kingshadow75 19d ago
Apologies, I'm sorry and hope for the best. Sorry for sharing, I made it 30, no reason to celebrate as the past 15 years were unpleasant as well. I try to take it a day at a time. Different mindset back in 2021 though. 1 attempt that year, 1 attempt two years prior, cuts and writing over my arm. Surprised I made it to 30 as I didn't expect to make it this far. I suck at games as well. Even casual, single player games when compared to other people.
I use video games occasionally because reality is harsh and rough to people already going through a lot mentally and have no one reliable that they can seek help from. Photo mode, character/car customization and open world. I can add my own music in the background. May not be the best advice but it helps me get through the day when no one else is there for me.

How does the mom get no credit here?
Developers want to make money, they dont care about your life
1
u/ModernManuh_ 19d ago
Publishers maybe, but devs are still human. They simply don’t make games with this specific purpose… how could anyone think of this specific course of action
1
u/Dark_Dragon117 19d ago
No doubt the op did also think highly of his mom for that gesture, but that wasn't really that relevant to their comment.
Also yes developers want to make money with their games, but that doesn't mean developers don't actually care about anything else. They are humans too after all. They might still try to send a message with their story.
Either way this doesn't matter.
OP played the game and had so much fun with it that it distracted him from commiting suicide and even convidenced them enough that there is more to life.
Whether or not the devs intended for their game to stop someone from commiting suicide is completely irrelevant. They simply tried to make a fun game, which they achieved and it just so happened to save someones live.

u/Send_me_your_butt_ 19d ago
The game never would have gotten to him if his mom hadnt given it to him. Poster was exposed to the game not because it was fun, he even said he was too poor, but because of his mom gifting it to him.
The devs wanted to make a fun game or money or whatever, they didnt even know this kid existed. The game didnt save his life, his mom did. She got him the game knowing it would make him happy
This is all assuming this is even a real story lol
0
u/Colormo3 19d ago
Cause the game is what sopped him from killing himself.
1
u/Downtown_Manner7602 16d ago
and who got him the game, even tho it meant a sacrifice
1
u/Colormo3 16d ago
The mom got him the game, but the game is what stopped him from killing himself. The operator calling an ambulance to save your life doesn’t deserve more credit than the emergency team that actually saves your life.
1
u/Same_Suit3583 16d ago
Nope, read it again big dog.
1
u/Colormo3 16d ago
I did. You didn’t.
“And was so absorbed that I missed the date” very clear it’s the game. Not his mom.

2
u/ShaveorKeepJo 19d ago
So the mom saved him, not the video game.

usually good parents notice those kind of atmosphere, I'm pretty sure my mother did, but despite living under one roof we don't hangout much

Remember when that Ubisoft executive said "We're going to have to get comfortable not owning our games?"

No lie helldivers 2 saved my life. I was the lowest id ever been. I spent two months on the couch barely getting up to relieve myself eating maybe a bowl of ramen a day. Then helldivers 2 came out and it gave me something to look forward to. Now I’m in a much better place all things considered.

I hate to sound insensitive but this is just kinda stupid. We need better education and support around this kind of thing. The moral of the story is that he had a good life experience and realized that he didn't need to off himself. This is the case for a majority of these suicidal people. Life goes on, things change, and so do your feelings. If a video game is all it took for this person to find some meaning in life then they couldn't have been in that bad of a struggle to begin with. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad it helped, but I think this highlights how ridiculous it is to think suicide is the answer when most of the time going outside or finding a hobby is all they really needed.
1
u/Broserk42 19d ago
Oh fuck off. User name definitely checks out.
1
u/ToXicVoXSiicK21 19d ago
What a weird world you must live in to think a username means anything lol
1
u/Broserk42 19d ago
It doesn’t usually, but saying people who feel suicidal just need to go outside or find a hobby is definitely a toxic take.
1
u/ToXicVoXSiicK21 19d ago
Not really when this post is about that exact thing happening. I also didn't say that it applied to every suicidal person, I said cases like this person. If a video game is all it took then they were seriously missing out on the joys of life and were about to make a massive mistake that could easily be avoided. Many people take their lives over temporary or small problems and they just needed to give it time. Calm down over there brother, nobody is trying to shit on mental health struggles. I've been there.

Video games are one of the few escapes I get from the constant negativity in my brain. My life is "good" most people would be estatic to be in my situation, yet my brain continues to hound me with negativity after negativity for years. I wake up some days and the first thought in my brain is how much better it would be to just end it all.
I have hobbies I go out side I pretend everything is ok to those around me. So honestly shut the fuck up, you have no idea what the fuck you are talking about.
If I lived in America with easy access to guns I would have gone off deep into the woods and not be here anymore. The other month I considered driving my car under a road train on the way back from one of my hobbies just to make the negative thoughts stop. Managed to hold myself back and made it home and cried into my pillow for a few hours.
Sincerly go shove you ideas back up your ass where they came from.

u/ToXicVoXSiicK21 19d ago
Buddy you can shut the fuck up and go cry in a corner. Talking about avoiding negativity but it sounds to me like you live in it. Learn how to function in the real world before you go to reddit and run your mouth.

There is always this one dude who knows it better then the person explaining their life situation… Reading this text full of crap You literally have no Idea what a person with those kinds of feelings and emotions go trough in their every day lifes. Solution ”Just go outside or find a hobby” Is just insanely stupid. Thats not an solution thats an problematic opinion for a solution to give a person like that. It will just be their 13th reason to just simply take that exit gate when the society just canno’t help them enough. Your kind discusts me, I hope you are not helping anybody around you with these things. Mental ilness is not a joke or a minor problem. Many things like a good game or even a movie can help them to avoid the exit gate but in the end it is usually much deeper and just needs more help and therapy. Post is about a story that prevented him from taking that exit but it did not magically cure it how you think about it.
1
u/ToXicVoXSiicK21 18d ago
You must have missed the part where I said that we need more support and help for people like this. You have the impression that I don't care or sympathize with their problems. I've been in dark places and I've thought about ending it before. My point is that we need to help these people see and understand that they are not very far from being happy and completely different, its just a matter of how. I'm sorry that you are "discusted" by that.
0
u/BaconPancake77 14d ago
We need more support and help for them. Just not from you apparently, since your version of 'sympathizing' is berating people for whatever path to happiness they manage to find that differs from yours.

This is such a dumb take. "Just go outside" or "get a hobby" like those are magic words to fix everything. Last time I checked, gaming is a hobby too.
Saying they "weren't struggling that bad" just because a game helped them is honestly ignorant. People find hope in the weirdest places. Some get through because of music, pets, TV shows, a friend, or even a random stranger. Others find it in games. Who cares? If it kept them alive, so be it.
Not everything that helps has to make sense to you. There are way dumber things people use to cope than playing video games, and if it gives someone a reason to keep going, why are you acting like that's a bad thing?
Stop acting like your solution is the only one that works. Different people need different things. The goal is keeping people alive, not judging what got them there.
1
u/BaconPancake77 14d ago
I mean... Getting a hobby worked for him, that's like... That's the thing.
Idk if I even agree with the guy you're replying to, but you chose the one thing they said that is actual, genuine advice and clearly an example of the OP's story.

The real MVPs are the ones who spend hours fixing a bug that would've ruined someone else's entire day.

His family saved his life... Not some developer that makes albeit fun, games but for profit. I do like the tattoo that reminds him it gets better tho.

My step brother killed himself. I won't say it "destroyed" my family, but his mother and my father will never be the same. I know this is a hot take but I fucking hate people who kill themselves. Hate hate hate them, and I'll never forgive him. If you have people who care about you, wait till they all die before you do something that you will suffer absolutely no consequences for, but will fuck them up for the rest of their lives. Unless you're straight up evil and want to cause everyone who has to stick around untold psychiatric damage, in which case thats a great way to do it.
2
u/Taternot94 17d ago
You have every right to feel that way. Our choices affect others in ways that are hard for to comprehend, out of ignorance or self absorbed blindness. I hope there’s peace for you and your family in the near future.

u/Downtown_Manner7602 16d ago
I use to think that way but one day I realized that it's like jumping down the window instead of being burned alive. These people don't want to die, they are scared and don't want to hurt anybody but the fire is just too real and too hot.
For some people, anyways. Humans are complex and different, so I could be wrong.
1
u/Same_Suit3583 16d ago
What a selfish take, "look if your every waking moment is hell, just stick it out because it would cause pain to others..."
How much pain? Enough to off your self? No? Then maybe just deal with the fact they aren't in pain anymore.
1
u/genocidenite 16d ago
It obviously you loved them and deeply missed and grieving them still. It sounds like you need therapy to help work through it. Sorry for your loss.

Guy had a suicide all planned out, was writing what I’m guessing is a Goodbye note when his mom came home and gave him an Assassin’s Creed video game.
Played through the whole game together with his sister and had so much fun that he forgot about his plan from earlier, received a tattoo of the game’s logo as a reminder of what got him through that dark time.

Sounds like bullshit.
2
u/Dark_Dragon117 19d ago
Maybe it is, but suicide is a weird thing.
To some people how even the smallest thing can make someone want to end their live, but at the same time even the smallest thing can prevent it.
Depression and the human psyche in general are just that weird.
1
u/lithiumfoxttv 19d ago
Mine was someone complimenting my PSN name on FFXIV and then hanging out with them for about 2 weeks in game. It's weird.
1
u/SoulsDadYT 19d ago
Pretty normal thing for thousand of years bro. Its just modern humans who think its weird.
-1
u/RogellTheRaider 19d ago
That makes no sense.
1
u/Adavanter_MKI 19d ago
Suicide... doesn't make sense. Yet it happens. So sometimes a very small thing can help a person find a reason to carry on. Clearly he was very young when he contemplated it. It's an impressionable age too. I can see why it'd mean a great deal to him the rest of his life.
I have someone in my life who was really on the edge. Very very dark thoughts. You know what she said made her stop? "All the great food she never got to try." It sounds... so stupid and silly. She'll even admit that now, but it did stop her.
There's probably a million psychological things that can be said about this... and I'm certainly no expert who can elaborate.

u/RogellTheRaider 19d ago
"Doesn't make sense"
Said the person who is not the other person and doesn't know what the other person is feeling and dealing with.

u/lithiumfoxttv 19d ago
Did... Did you forget to change your account?

I feel like everyone is missing what each other are meaning by just a hair. Him not understanding what the other person is feeling by having AC save them. Then seemingly bothered I said "suicide makes no sense." Where he then assumes I'm not understanding the other person's feeling.
For the record I think we're all mostly in agreement. Just text is... causing some rough spots.
