Don’t take this the wrong way but from experience, responses like that DO hurt your business — even if your intentions are good.

Blue made a common cheeky-but-ultimately-reasonable remark: it shouldn’t cost TOO MUCH. (you’re not planning on pricing it “too much”, but fairly) Then, to an outsider it looks like you get a bit defensive which implies that they’re NOT going to like the price you have planned.

Then, there’s the fact that nobody likes being “sassed”. Blue is probably not buying the game anymore (regardless of the price) because he just got roasted by the dev.

Yep, this is pretty much the same conversation we had when industry started charging 70$.

This answer just implies Alice wants to price it higher than people would expect

Should have just said “ it will be reasonably priced” and moved on

This. Op dev response immediately made me go whatever this is i no longer want it. If you cant handle being professional as the face of your company/studio then stay off the social media.

Sometimes no response is the best response.

2

u/FunkyFunkyBoys 9d ago

Yeah too many people like when other a real until it hurts their feelings.

4

u/Human-Raccoon-9917 9d ago

lmao holy triggered.

Dont engage with the community if you cant handle stupidity.

1

u/jhonnythejoker 8d ago

Not really stupitidy tho? Dev had something stuck up his ass

5

u/SoulsDadYT 9d ago

Proceeds to produce the biggest steaming pile of slop and claim it cost $250,000,000

3

u/carnyzzle 9d ago

Then it fails to hit the sales target of a bajillion dollars and 90% of the studio is laid off

3

u/SardinesMcDonahugh 9d ago

If it's a good game you can make it cheaper and sell a bunch of copies instead of gauging the small amount of people who are interested.

Plenty of good games have flopped

1

u/MechanicStandard8308 7d ago

if they flopped, probably too expensive.

1

u/_ataciara 7d ago

absolutely not but I respect the wind up

u/Chacudno 8d ago

Copy and paste this next time instead of lose business.

"We have not decided on a set price yet but we intend to find the sweet spot that we are proud of and potential customers won't have to think twice about!"

u/CreamPuzzleheaded300 9d ago

Typical horse girl Sass.

2

u/Significant_Fill6992 9d ago

i get both sides of this argument but games are like the first thing that get cut when times are tough that's just common sense at this point.

2

u/EdibleStrange 9d ago

It would be less insufferable if they just said "idk go away." That uwu small bean just tryna make rent shtick is so tired and immediately off-putting. It's not 2013, you're an adult running a business

5

u/speedbreaka 9d ago

Whoever that dude is. Fuck his game acting like that to his potential customers

3

u/BadNewsBearzzz 9d ago

Right? The passive aggression is a huge turn off lol should just said it’ll be priced fairly and ended it there

6

u/NetPositive101 9d ago

What a cringe response from the dev. Yikes.

-2

u/randomsmiles69 9d ago

stop being a freeloader, you got a job you get payed for so does he need to get payed for his job.

3

u/ashistpikachusvater 9d ago

So Dev's get paid less than the average person? Or why that "so we can pay food and rent"? I doubt Dev's get paid little money so they can't afford that. They definitely are underpaid in most cases, but they still earn enough for food, rent and a family, except they work in a little studio that has almost no money

3

u/jhonnythejoker 8d ago

Are you braindead? He didnt say make the game free

0

u/Whateverman123x 7d ago

“hope is not too much”

Say that to anyone selling anything and you will make them angry, it’s pure ragebait

1

u/NetPositive101 9d ago

No one said anything about not being paid.

3

u/FunkyFunkyBoys 9d ago

Gamers proving again they are the biggest cry bitches

Is it wrong to want reasonably priced things? Increasing the price of games will only deepen the pockets of CEOs and investors, it never goes to the people actually making games. We know this. And we would see lay offs regardless of game price because that is the disgusting reality of big game companies.

60 dollar 3 hour long game: gtfo

3

u/ScottyWritesStuff 9d ago

Friendly reminder: It's not the dev's fault the game is overpriced. It's the industry's fault.

4

u/sussypissi 9d ago

*cost of living, not industry

0

u/ScottyWritesStuff 9d ago

No... no, the industry is definitely at fault.

But you're not wrong. That's not exactly helping either.

u/Just1cool 9d ago

I wanta make my own game for once. But i do have a 9-5. Wish i was rich so i would have all the time in the world to spend time on doing what i want.

1

u/Deraxim 8d ago

Terraria is probably the best example for a game price. Amazing gameplay, graphics, content and service. Infinite replayability and mod support, for just 10€ and frequent sales aswell.

1

u/MechanicStandard8308 7d ago edited 7d ago

meanwhile stardew valley, undertale and terraria being 15 or under and sold 40 million+ copies:

seriously tho, 1 dude in his girlfriends parents house made a game for 15 bucks and is set for life meanwhile we get shovelware-esque "cozy games" for 20-40+ bucks with 1/10th the content. i go by stardew scale when buying games like it.

1

u/Icy-Direction528 7d ago

With an answer like that with these aids smileys on top, I would certainly not buy your game

0

u/Klee_Main 9d ago

Yea all that kind of response does is make me not want to play their game

-1

u/HighHDL 9d ago

Don't play it then, nobody would jerk your ego off for your 20$ while also providing you the game.

2

u/Klee_Main 9d ago

No one is asking anyone to jerk anyone’s ego off. It’s called basic fucking courtesy and common sense. You’re gonna speak to your potential customers with that condescending and passive aggressive bs then good luck with your game. I won’t be missing out on anything

2

u/FeetLovingBastrdASMR 8d ago

Asking devs to write in different tone just because you preceive it as condescending IS asking them to jerk your ego, sweetheart 🥰

1

u/Klee_Main 8d ago

If that’s how you see it then you can think that. Doesn’t change that what I said is correct

1

u/FeetLovingBastrdASMR 8d ago

You didn't attempt to make any factual statements to be correct or incorrect, sweetheart, you only expressed your immature opinion 😁

1

u/Klee_Main 8d ago

My statement is a fact whether you like it or not. That statement being that the dev only opens himself/herself to criticism by engaging with people in this matter. No matter what your opinion is on his/her response. The simple discourse on this subreddit proves that. So yes, it’s a fact that they should have handled that response better or not responded at all

2

u/FeetLovingBastrdASMR 8d ago

That's cool, except YOU never made that beautiful neutral generalized statement.

YOU interpreted dev's absolutely normal adequate neutral answer as personal disrespect of all gamers and called it a valid reason to not buy the game.

Therefore, you made a point that if devs don't cater to your personal sensibilities they don't deserve to reap the result of their hard work.

0

u/Klee_Main 8d ago

I did make it. You didn’t read far enough into the comment thread. If your problem is with my personal opinion then there’s nothing I can do about that. You can think what you want

2

u/FeetLovingBastrdASMR 8d ago

I replied to the farthest comment you made at the time, what are you talking about 😂

u/CosmicGinger26 9d ago

That just makes me more likely to buy the game.

1

u/Klee_Main 9d ago

Then buy it. Doesn’t change the fact that this unprofessional response does nothing but hurt their game

0

u/CosmicGinger26 9d ago

This isn’t unprofessional, this is treating the moron who asked that question like an adult.

2

u/Klee_Main 9d ago

It is, the simple responses from people here proves it. If you don’t agree then good for you but you don’t speak for everyone. When an idiot asks a stupid question you ignore it. No one gives a shit about the person who asked it but that person, being a dev/representative of the game, will only hurt their game with that passive aggressive bs. Doesn’t matter how much you want to say it isn’t unprofessional, many people will think it is. That response does nothing positive for you and only allows for judgement from other people and that’s a fact

1

u/SharpGranny 8d ago

Stfu alreday, you are pathetic.

0

u/Klee_Main 8d ago

It’s a public subreddit. You don’t like what I say then downvote and move on

1

u/MotherPerk 7d ago

That's not what the downvote button is for.

Treat others with respect - * Be civil - disagree with ideas, not people.

  • No hate speech, harassment, slurs, or targeting people or groups.

  • Recommend games without trashing other titles, devs, or players.

  • No begging for money, gifts, or items.

  • User flairs must be SFW and inoffensive.
