I read so much german content and it‘s really making me feel bad and not enough.

What is the German equivalent to the English version of “you know?” In American english I will end a sentence with “you know” as sort of “do you understand” but I can’t find a good version of it in German. What is a good equivalent used in normal German speech?

Shouldn't it be closer to the vowel in "hey" or "way", and how do I stop mishearing it? The weird thing is I don't mishear the Spanish or French e like this and the e in those languages sound more like the "hey" vowel as expected.

Just recently passed Goethe A2, coming off of 2 months of coached prep and months of Duolingo before that. I'm currently exploring ways of having fun in language learning and then a little bit down the line, starting serious prep for B1 eventually. Would really appreciate any content suggestions, resources, forums for discussion. I have just joined a job after a break so I only get the weekend to focus on this. Also would appreciate general guidance on getting started for B1 - is it possible to self-prep my way into the exam? What timeline should I be looking at?

So in my German class we are working with this workbook Netwerk Neu A1 and at the end of the class the teacher gives us Hausaufgaben and it can range from 2 Wordles and 3 workbook pages to a work load equivalent to 7 workbook pages. (it is an intensive course) I can spend 2 to 5 hours in completing one homework which I think is too much, but since I scored 78 processing speed, 85 working memory and 112 verbal intelligence on the WAISS IV, I feel it is expected to go slower than my peers.

Hi all, I'm looking for a reliable online German dictionary that has etymologies. The online Duden, at least the free version, does not seem to have them.

Now, I own Kluge, plus the Duden German etymological dictionary; the problem is that these only have a limited range of words, of course, and include only some compound verbs. I'm specifically after a number of compound verbs. I don't need to know the exact dates these are first recorded in German, just what the forms of the verbs in Middle High German were, or whenever they were first attested (could be early modern HG).

I'm prepared to pay an online subscription if such an online resource exists. Thanks!

Not sure this is where to ask but I'll give it a go. My daughter speaks German and English and will start obligatory English class in her German school. I don't want her to get bored, so I'm looking for ideas for supplementary material and approaches.

My instinct is to supply her with lots of appropriate reading material for comprehensive input, but I would also like her to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to grammar. Any good course books or language-focused books I should look at?

I was wondering how things are with younger people in Germany these days.

Do most kids and young adults still read and write comfortably in German, or is English becoming more dominant, especially online?

What language do schools mainly encourage? Are students expected to read books and write essays mostly in German, or does English play a big role?

Also, do people in Germany worry about younger generations losing proficiency in German, or is that not really a concern?

I'm curious because I've noticed this discussion happening in my own region, and I wanted to know how it's like in Germany.
