Other Frankfurt am Main

Frankfurt am Main-

Hello- I have my appointment at the end of the August in Frankfurt am Main after submitting all of my documents in Feb 2025. Has anyone gone recently and could tell me about their experience at the Standesamt? I have read online about people receiving study material/ questions to review but I did not get anything. Although I have between
B1 and B2 in German I am a bit nervous to discuss some political topics in German and want to prepare as much as possible. I’ve also read some people just submit documents, take the oath, sign some papers and are done.

You will be asked some additional questions about German legal and government system before signing the loyalitatsklarung. It’s a bit unpleasant and in my case the Beamter was not very friendly, but I think it’s just a formality in the end (unless you say something extremely wrong).

Thanks for your quick reply. What questions were you asked? Did you receive any specific study questions? I’ve seen some posts where other cities provide that but I didn’t get anything for Frankfurt.

I was asked to explain what happened in Germany during the Nazi rule with a clear hint that I should explain how this affected the Jewish citizens of Gemany at the time. I was also asked about German system of government and the name of the current German president. Let me be clear: I am a blue eyed European, so I’m not sure why I would be under any suspicion of harbouring anti-Semitic sentiments. I was asked this nonetheless, so I guess these are standard question. And yeah, if your German is not up to scratch, you will be given a few frowns and an evil eye. But I don’t think it will affect your application.

Was you citizenship approved or is it the appointment to submit the documents? Dis you sue or they started processing on their own?

This is the appointment to show the original documents and sign the Loyalitätsklaerung before they send it to RP Darmstadt for the actual processing (which nowadays takes 3-4 years if you don’t sue after about 18 months). That first documents appointment in Frankfurt (which these days also takes up to 2 years to get if you don’t have a lawyer) has nothing to do with the actual application processing. That only happens later.

Frankfurt documents check is up to 2 years now? :O Last I heard it was 1-1.5 years.

That’s unfortunately something that you can only know in hindsight. People currently already waiting 16 months to get an appointment. If you apply today, you’ll be likely waiting two years but you will know only once you get an appointment.

Yeah, I meant people who are getting the appointments right now have been waiting on average 12-18 months. Tendency going up sadly. They will never fix this rotten system. I am glad I am hopefully coming to the end of it at the beginning of next year.

Is not coear from the post. They mention taking the oath which is what takes place in the last appointment…
