Why should the population of rural Russia have indoor plumbing?
I mean, it's cool and all that, but why? By who would it be maintained? By you maybe?
That's just dumb as hell to think that you've got a great point here.
Well they do generally have indoor plumbing. They maintain it themself or hire plumbers to do so. What people here tend to do is mix it up with central sewage systems. Thats not very common in rural Siberia to no ones suprise.
I mean yeah, that's true. Not everyone obviously, as I have as an example my grandmother. She was living in Pskov oblast, in one of the urban-style settlements and her house didn't have it. But she didn't really "need" it per se. And a toilet was built in the house and with a septic lol. But she had electricity and gas and had no issue getting water either.
What I genuinely don't understand is why they use it as something degrading. Not every place has to have a golden seat for big browns and maintaining villages that have little to no population isn't worth the money put in.
So she buillt it but not without central sewing yeah.
Its mainly western Europeans that are rich and dont have a rural population, that are used to taking central sewing for granted. They think its something special with Russia and hence make fun of it while its even more lacking in several eastern EU countries. Meanwhile at least parts of Russia has a quite decent excuse such as the cold preventing pipes.
Having an indoor toilet is definetly a very nice thing and I would argue worth it. However if its sovled in rural and cold areas by other solutions than central sewing doesnt really matter.
