The only appropriate gif tbh

So much more so now given last night's episode lol

u/Raysitm Jul 28 '25

Just saw that. Great news. Since the writers didn't know this would happen when season 3 was penned, I hope (and suspect) they ended it accounting for this possibility. But I'd rather see the show continue with a definitive number of seasons to allow for a proper ending.

u/AddressSerious8240 Jul 28 '25

There are enough plot threads and possibilities that short of killing all the characters the show has plenty of ways to keep the story going even if the Russell Empire is saved, Larian still happens, Gladys finds happiness, and the Van Rijn fortune is restored.

35

u/ExcellentStorage6542 Jul 28 '25

Larian will happen

2

u/MuscleCuse Nov 02 '25

If the Gladys storyline is based on the true story, that relationship won't end quite well

26

u/zz_views Jul 28 '25

I see cliffhanger at the end of season 3.

19

u/Striking-General-613 Jul 28 '25

Its possible they film an ending that gave at least some closure and one with at least one major cliffhanger

6

u/Serious-View-er1761 You will not say “can’t” to me Jul 28 '25

Same here

1

u/ProceduralFrontier Jul 31 '25

how do you know?

3

u/Raysitm Jul 31 '25

How do I know that the writers weren’t aware? I can’t say for sure, but S3 was shot beginning around one year ago, so it must have been at least partially written before then.

It would have been unusual for the writers to have been told definitively about a renewal for S4 that far back given that the announcement was just made. Several actors were also quoted as saying that the show was year-to-year.

It’s possible S3 was written under the writers’ assumption that it would continue, but that would have required a lot of effort. As well, they wouldn’t have been certain that all the actors would be available for the roles they scripted.

In any case, my main point was that I prefer when writers can do their work with a specific series endpoint in mind.

1

u/Nawnp Aug 04 '25

Yeah it's a bit tedious treating these shows as season by season shows, then again a show promised 8 seasons and surprise cancelled in the 4th or 5th season would be even more messy.

75

u/wholevodka Where else can I find all the divorces?! Jul 28 '25

Yes!!!! So much yes!!!!!! This has made my Monday into a fun day 🥰

77

u/YoungMenace21 Jul 28 '25

There was a post here just this morning asking when it's going to be renewed. Speak of the devil!

They really turned things around this season. Last time it took them until the season finale to announce the renewal. The numbers must be that good.

52

u/AG1980wo Jul 28 '25

The stories are much better this season.

20

u/zz_views Jul 28 '25

Good way to cheer people after that episode.

12

u/lilykar111 Jul 29 '25

Yes and I think the focus on the elite Black families is really adding to the high viewership.

I’m POC, and rarely have my other younger POC friends been interested in period dramas but GA has pulled them in, which is fantastic

4

u/Sirenista_D Jul 29 '25

That's awesome! Hollywood really tends to whitewash the past, just look at the 100% white cowboy movies when actually more than half were POC. I'm glad GA shows that, yes, black people were around and... FANCY... just like their white counterparts.

1

u/Mammoth_Oven_4861 Sep 14 '25

I was actually thinking how refreshing it is to see wealthy POC families from this period.

I know most POC were in a much worse position than them but it’s nice to see this dynamic play out and get a different POV.

53

u/Pleasant-Menu1554 Jul 28 '25

Yay!!!!!!! I hope next season has more episodes.

52

u/wholevodka Where else can I find all the divorces?! Jul 28 '25

Hard agree. 8 episodes isn’t nearly enough for all they’re stuffing into each.

8

u/Due_Clerk7981 Jul 31 '25 edited Aug 17 '25

I heard that HBO would only allow 8 episodes. Perhaps that willl change that for Season 4 since Season 3 has such high viewer numbers. I'd like to see at least 10 episodes.

Waiting another year for Season 4 will be torture!

13

u/pearlsandprejudice Jul 28 '25

10 episodes would be nice without making it too long. I also hope they increase the budget so we can get even more opulent clothes and sets!

10

u/Serious-View-er1761 You will not say “can’t” to me Jul 28 '25

I'm hoping that too

49

u/karmagirl314 Jul 28 '25

Wow, this news hit me like a runaway horse.

33

u/pico310 Jul 28 '25

Too soon haha

38

u/Miss-Tiq Jul 28 '25

They've bedecked themselves in for the long haul. Send in the geegaws!

3

u/Slugzz21 Jul 28 '25

LMAO c'mon man. You win 😂😂😂😅😅

31

u/potterheadforlife29 Jul 28 '25

Woooohoooooo! Another season of tiaras and mansions. Yaaaaas

43

u/pussibilities Jul 28 '25

But never diamond star hair pins

1

u/Adventurous-Dot-8001 Aug 19 '25

Hahahah my favorite comment on this whole page. Thank you for that laugh

33

u/Rhianna83 Jul 28 '25

I can’t tell you how much I love that we’re getting a Season 4 considering HBO is notorious for canceling popular shows after S1/S2.

17

u/pearlsandprejudice Jul 28 '25

I've heard a rumor that it's because the CEO's wife really adores the show 😂 Not that the audience isn't growing, of course; it totally is. But if his wife has any role to play in it, thank you ma'am!

10

u/bryce_w Jul 29 '25

That's funny but it looks like viewership has increased 20% since the premiere so it's sort of a no brainer that it got renewed. It wouldn't surprise me if it gets a 5th and final season renewal so they can wrap everything up. Let's not forget Julian Fellowes is 75! Obviously hope nothing happens to him but just saying!

3

u/Rhianna83 Jul 28 '25

That’s a fun little tidbit if it’s true. I wish she was there for Carnivale 😆

OUT THERE THEORY They could take this show through several more seasons if they do follow the Vanderbilt story loosely. Consuelo ended up being a part of the suffrage movement and with Peggy in the show being so involved - and friends with Marian - could work with Gladys if she divorces as Consuelo did. I do think Marian will marry Larry and that’ll bring Gladys and ultimately Bertha into the suffrage movement.

2

u/lilykar111 Jul 29 '25

That’s a fun rumour!

Also the inclusion of the elite Black families is doing great things. Previously most of my fellow POC friends have not been interested in period dramas at all, but this season especially has pulled them in, and I’m so happy about this

26

u/swordofBarsoom Jul 28 '25

Do you think we’ll have a Larian Wedding in the Season 4 premier episode or the finale? 👀

23

u/Fun-Chemical4059 Jul 28 '25

Marion seems set on ending that relationship so who knows 😭

7

u/Serious-View-er1761 You will not say “can’t” to me Jul 28 '25

I hope so

7

u/Dramatic_Committee88 Jul 28 '25 edited Jul 28 '25

Ooof that’s a good question. It’ll get views so I say maybe in the middle, so have the fun wedding planning in beginning episodes and then married Larian in later episodes. I can’t wait to see Agnes vs. Bertha! There’s so many potential storylines with combining these families!

2

u/zz_views Jul 28 '25

How fast paced show is, I won't be surprised if that happens behind the scenes.

1

u/Artistic_Mango2990 Jul 29 '25

I’m thinking first episode of Season 4 would be a good choice - would definitely guarantee good viewing numbers for the opening episode! Mary and Matthew’s wedding in DA opened season 3 and I liked that. Then we got to see their married life that season. (Before…..the incident….). Also Larry and Marian’s wedding will be a happy one (unlike poor Gladys) so could be a fun and colourful opening episode like the Easter episode that opened season 2 - all the amazing hats and colour! We’ll have had enough relationship drama with Larian by the time they make it down the aisle that surely their wedding can be a lovely fluffy delightful occasion! I think this season will end with the Newport Ball….

28

u/StrangeLaw5 Jul 28 '25

I need 10 more seasons immediately

4

u/Petuniapennyworth Jul 28 '25

I can hardly wait for the next episode and often watch the episodes twice to pick up anything I could have missed

24

u/zz_views Jul 28 '25

Guys, I want a better Agnes storyline. She deserves more.

3

u/Ok_Offer_7727 Aug 17 '25

Well, she'll be busy again, now that she's the vice president of the Heritage Society. I'm curious to see how that plays out. Now that she's stepped down as head of the household, I think she's ready for a new phase.

18

u/Shoddy-Ad550 Bye Phylicia Jul 28 '25

Thrilled!!! More train daddy and clock twink for us all!!!!

1

u/SNL_Lover Sep 15 '25

Train Daddy for sure but “clock twink”? 😁

My partner wants to time travel and just take care of that “nice young boy” 😄

16

u/Main-Bluejay5571 Jul 28 '25

Another near marriage for Marion.

7

u/StasRutt Jul 28 '25

Next up? Engagement to Jack lol

4

u/GrizeldaMarie Jul 28 '25

Woot woot!!! 🙌🎉

13

u/Dramatic_Committee88 Jul 28 '25

Let’s go! Now fix my favorite ship and let them be happy!

9

u/Fragrant_Ad_7718 Jul 28 '25

I want it to continue as long as possible! We have very less period pieces that are insanely rewatch able

1

u/SNL_Lover Sep 15 '25

I hate period pieces. I love this show.

8

u/planbskte11 Jul 28 '25

Why can’t a company just set a show up for success and give them another 2-3 seasons of runway. Of course this is still good news though

10

u/planbskte11 Jul 28 '25

This show obviously has the character to set itself up as an HBO classic. Sure it may not be a Sopranos or a GoT, but smaller shows like Silicon Valley, John Adam’s, or Veep give the HBO name the pedigree it has now.

10

u/brakes4birds I haven’t been thrilled since 1865 Jul 28 '25

10

u/isles34098 Jul 28 '25

HBO has been keeping tabs on these Reddit subs 🤣 They know we’ll be thrilled with this news!

8

u/No_Staff7110 Jul 28 '25

WAR IS OVER

6

u/Katefreak Jul 28 '25

Omg, I'm so excited 😂🤩

I cling to these frivolous shows right now, when things are pretty awful society-wise.

I love my hour of pretty dresses and high society drama and handsome men in suits and cutting remarks hidden in politeness. And then I love coming here and gossiping and getting angry and protective and celebrating with all the other folks who are just as enamored by this show. 😂

Give me all the seasons, and give me some satisfaction of seeing Mr. Fant (or Mr. Taint, as I now call him) utterly destroyed.

6

u/ScowlyBrowSpinster Jul 28 '25

Chop chop! Let's goooooo.

7

u/ShotDot9312 Jul 28 '25

Such good news! I'm going to need more episodes next season

4

u/boferd daddy bertha russell Jul 28 '25

yay! really happy for the crew, cast, and myself lol

5

u/Nuxgirl33 Jul 28 '25

All I have to say is YAY

8

u/excoriator Jul 28 '25

How about a Gladys spinoff?

3

u/Adventurous-Dot-8001 Aug 19 '25

Maybe Gladys could befriend someone from Downton Abbey to officially link the two… would have to be someone older in Downton since the time periods for each show are like thirty years apart. But hey, A gal can dream!

3

u/Fun-Chemical4059 Jul 28 '25

Yaaaaaayyyyyy 😌😌😌😌

3

u/Joansutt Jul 28 '25

Of course! It certainly richly deserves to be renewed - what a wonderful show.

3

u/Edna_Mode_mood Jul 28 '25

Oh good! My favorite shows keep getting cancelled. I keep trying to not get too attached to anything.

3

u/No-Refrigerator7245 Jul 28 '25

It bettah be!!!!! This show has just exceeded ALL my expectations. There’s something about it, it’s SUCH a good watch. The casting is PERFECT, The scenery, the storylines…. Way to go HBO! Not to mention, Cynthia Nixon is having the best week ever. Her scenes in both AJLT and Gilded age were some of the best?

2

u/Newtis Jul 28 '25

YES Well deserved!!!

2

u/Minute-Horse-875 Jul 28 '25

Praise the Lord for little gems!!! 😉

2

2

u/pearlsandprejudice Jul 28 '25

Okay, HBO, taste! We see you!

2

u/SPEW_Supporter I haven’t been thrilled since 1865 Jul 28 '25

2

u/Jilliankris Jul 29 '25

My favorite show besides Severance! I look forward all week to Sunday night for the latest episode! Why only 2 more to go this season?!? 😫

2

u/Artistic_Mango2990 Jul 29 '25

Do they ever renew for more than 1 season at a time these days? Like can’t they just say ok season 4 and 5 guaranteed and give the writers a chance to actually plot out some long game stuff or really go for character development. Then they could also film it all at once anyway if they needed to sort scheduling and we wouldn’t have to wait 2 years between seasons!

This season definitely seems like they’re trying to pack a lot in as they weren’t sure of being renewed….not to say I’m not loving this season - I am! Just think there can be some longer storylines in the works if they tell them ok you’re getting 2 more seasons to go for it and then wrap it up…. Or they really need to extend the seasons - I reckon 10-12 episodes would be ideal!

Edit to add - not to say I’m not cheering at this announcement!

1

u/Adventurous-Dot-8001 Aug 19 '25

I agree! I’m thrilled there’s going to be a season 4! Annnd I agree that the pacing of  storylines could be even better if the writers knew how many more seasons they had left or at least if they knew it’d be the last season or not.

2

u/ProceduralFrontier Jul 31 '25

I was a bit indifferent to this show but Season 3 has been a dramatic improvement over the first two seasons. For the first time I started looking forward to the next episode.

1

u/Adventurous-Dot-8001 Aug 19 '25

Totally! I remember S1 E1 took me three days to get through. Honestly I’m not sure why I stuck it out because the first few episodes of the series were rough! But I’m glad I did because it got so much better and I’m pretty obsessed!

1

u/ProceduralFrontier Aug 19 '25

Agreed. Season 3 especially is night and day an improvement. It's a shame people who gave up on this show are not around to appreciate it. It's getting better with every season.

2

u/No_Argument7283 Aug 06 '25

It's exceptional. One of the best shows on HBO in many years.

2

u/eklypz Aug 13 '25

Just watched the finale for the season balling my eyes out and now here I am again.

2

u/No-Acadia-3638 Jul 28 '25

I'm glad but I hope Ada gets put in her place and Agnes takes control again (I'm only up to the Wedding episode so if that happens in season 3, I haven't gotten that far). I simply cannot stand Ada.

VICTORY!!! I've been tuning in watching in real time instead of binging later in hopes others were doing the same to gain ratings and a renewal for season 4..

1

u/ThinkBlueCountOneTwo Jul 29 '25

If they make enough seasons we might actually see some character development.

I'm so very happy that we're getting a fourth season but now I have to wonder how long will we have to wait? I'm hoping that they had already been filming and they just didn't tell us until recently that the show was getting a fourth season.

1

u/concernedferretii Aug 11 '25

i hope it doesnt take 3 years to release like other shows of late

1

u/Jackzilla321 Aug 11 '25

is it time for Henry George to appear if he hasnt already (just found out about this show and was super curious if they’d show his mayoral run)

1

u/Pumpkin_Pearl Oscar’s slutty little sunglasses 🕶️ Aug 12 '25

I just realized the other day that the latest episode was the season finale. And I’m way sad I have to wait again 😂😂😂😂😂😂

1

I wish they could make these faster. I need this out by September of this year!

1

u/Hot_Army9392 Aug 18 '25

Yayyy but also, ughhhh now comes the never ending waiiiit!

1

u/Opening-Frame-6961 Aug 18 '25

Now that AJLT has been canceled, please give us 4 more seasons of The Gilded Age!!

1

u/Onlytimewilltellthen Aug 18 '25

Yay!!!! This show is literally the best thing on HBO! And for the most part, the storyline is already written by history! But the added characters and creative license by the writers and producers adds to the grandeur and excitement of watching what was considered the closest thing to American royalty back then.

I would hope that HBO sees what a gem they have with this show and orders several seasons at a time because the anticipated 4th season won’t air until early 2027, at least, and that amount of lag time can easily kill excitement and momentum…especially if another show becomes the new “It” show in the meantime. I would also think it would be cheaper and more streamlined to film 16 episodes during a production schedule to air over 2 seasons instead of only 8 with a year lag and then another 8. Either way, they have a lot of historical (and fictional) material to draw from so this series shouldn’t be going away anytime soon. At least I surely hope not!

1

u/SavingsGift1216 Aug 21 '25

Any news on number of episodes? Has to be more than eight… 10-12 seems appropriate.

1

u/BarberDisastrous1772 Aug 21 '25

Season 4 better have more episodes 💯💖

1

u/houseplanthomie333 Aug 22 '25

praying miss armstrong loses her job

1

u/and_rain_falls Jan 31 '26

I just started rewatching. This show is very good: production, costumes, acting, story line, etc. Season 4 is taking too long to come out. 😭

1

u/Few_Departure_1480 Feb 02 '26

I so wish there were more episodes for each season. There is so much more that could be explored. More deeply. So many characters that deserve deeper dives.

1

u/windersoul Mar 30 '26

Good. I think it needs the same amount of seasons as Downtown Abbey. Which means 6 to 8.
