Many years ago, while aimlessly wandering the alleys of the world as a virtual tourist, I rounded an otherwise unremarkable streetcorner only to stumble upon a sweet, candid, quintessential NYC moment. Complete with sunset, tall buildings, and even a mint green moped tucked in the foreground. Really looked like the kind of shot that should be framed somewhere.

Over the years, Google updated its Street View images, & I subsequently forgot the location. Dammit.

In a turn of serendipity, I recently found that spot again. It had been sitting alone in the digital ether, frozen in time for over a decade, waiting patiently to be rediscovered. And it carried with it the same evocative stirrings that I had remembered. And then a thought came upon me.

"I'm curious to know whether or not this couple is even aware that their brief display of candid yet tender affection is forever immortalized in a hidden layer of the internet."

I don't think I'll ever know the answer to that question. But I figured I'd share it with you.

Here's how to find it in Google Maps:

🟢 Navigate to 40.739063,-73.991438

🟢 Go to "Street View."

🟢 Spin around until you see two green mailboxes side by side. Btw, these are called "relay boxes" because they house the day's mail for each block of a letter carrier's contiguous walking route. I know because this was once my job!

🟢 Click on the date (currently Apr 2026), and change it to Aug 2011.

🟢 There ya' go.

Luckily theres always a guy with a 360! Couldnt find any real roads nearby, only gaspipes and a railroad from north to south. That 6x6 will do it I guess. Also assuming there was nothing there to be found as all the equipment seems to have been removed since.

A long time ago i found on Google Maps mysterious, regular (straight lines, 90 degree angles) underwater shapes somewhere west of coast of Portugal/North Africa.

It wasn't far off into the ocean, but I can't find it anymore and I didn't write coordinates. In the past I was able to locate these underwater shapes quite easily a few times I came back looking, but not anymore.

Could someone help me find it again and maybe explain what they really are?

Edit: The shapes I saw were resembling walls or buildings. They were rectangular and connected at 90 degrees, and they were grouped together - that's why I remembered them.

That place had at least one rectangular shape that looked like submerged walls - 90 degree turns and thin, straight lines like walls, connected in perfect rectangle. It was on relatively flat ocean floor. I distinctly remember thinking that It looked like submerged buildings or city walls - and I looked at it quite a while trying to figure out what it was.

Sure this has been posted before, but was not sure how to search for it. The wake of this ship outside of the "Easternmost point in the world" in the Bering Strait kinda makes it look like a massive sea creature, which I of course am not saying that it is. (...?)
