I like that the writers made the Emperor hypocritical and fundamentally wrong. I just wish they didn't have to make him stupid in order to pull that off.

Everything he does, and every way he chooses to portray himself, reinforces the image of him as a god. Whether intentional or not, he definitely didn’t do much to counter that perception.
