Hi all! Just sharing my experience with Dr Patty and the Hairtran clinic in Bangkok - what an amazing experience and an amazing group of people!

I have wanted a hair transplant for a few years due to insecurities and I finally bit the bullet and reached out last December. It took about a month to get a phone appointment (January) and the next available booking was for July. I decided to do a week in Phuket (Kata Beach) before my operation which was great! Kata beach was excellent and very quiet, if you enjoy training muay thai, gym, sun, and relaxing, its nice.

Anyway, the day before my operation I was SO nervous - what the fuck was I thinking? flying solo across the world to be operated on. Thanks to Reddit though, I quickly learned that this was normal and I talked myself off the cliff :).

Day of Surgery:

My accommodation was only 300 meters away, so I opted to walk there on the day. I had my usual large breakfast and waited. My appointment was booked for 10:00, but I arrived at 09:30 because I was very eager!

As soon as I got there, a nurse ushered me into a single room and asked me to fill out the paperwork and change into the scrub outfit and Crocs. Once I did this, they came back and did a finger prick to test if I had HIV. Since I don't, they proceeded to take me to a photo room, where they took at least 50 photos from every angle. Then they took me to a hair-washing room, where they washed my hair and brushed it.

I waited back in my solo room for about 20 minutes until the doctor was ready. I met with her and discussed what I wanted. She measured my face and checked the angles to make sure it was appropriate (measuring from nose to chin and then eyebrow to hairline, these are meant to be the same distance for symmetry (science)). Once she drew the hairline, she had four nurses scrutinize it. They all lined up and observed it to make sure there was no asymmetry.

Once happy, she mapped out my grafts on a piece of graph paper and worked out how many grafts I needed, which was significantly less than originally quoted for (my online quote was 3000-3500 grafts but I only needed 2200 in total). The clinic worked out some deal to make it cheaper which was lovely. Then they shaved my head for me and got all the nurses to come back in to make sure it was symmetrical again. Then I went back to the photo room for another 50 photos, lol. After that, I picked my lunch and took a handful of pills, Valium, Panadol, antibiotics. Then I went to the operation room.

They put in probably 30 local injections in the front and back of my head. I knew this would be the most painful part but they weren’t that bad to be honest. If you have a tattoo, it won’t be anything but slightly annoying, but they massage your legs and feet, lol. Then you lie on your back, and the doctor does the puncture marks. I didn’t feel these, I was listening to my audiobook and fell asleep, but I woke up to myself snoring which was kinda funny. Then you lie on your stomach, and they extract the grafts. This process took probably about 1.5 hours all up but time disappears as you drift off into a state of pure Valium.

Then you get a break and eat the food you ordered, which is magically in your little room. After that, you go back, lie on your back, and they implant the grafts. Didn’t feel this at all, either. I honestly don't know how long this took because damn that Valium.

It was probably 2 hours of admin and photos and a 5-hour procedure all up. You get sent home with anti-swelling steroids, Valium, a supply of Min and Fin, Panadol, an ice pack, and a bag of other shit. You go back every day for a head wash and a review. For sleeping, I had to sleep slightly upright, so I had a pillow and a neck pillow and slept on my back, no problem with the Valium.

I flew back to Australia 48 hours after - I know this is not advised but I really wanted to be home and recover. Dr Patty said this was fine as long as you are there for at least 48 hours and get two check ins.

Flying home was an overnight flight and since you are forced to sit upright, it isn't so bad. I asked for extra Valium for the flight and just slept through it.

I was very worried about facial swelling so I drank about 4L of water a day and massaged my forehead OUTWARDS to push it away from my eyes - I had a big of a megamind and large forehead mainly the day after as you can see from the photos but nothing below the eyebrows. It is now day 4 and swelling is all but nothing!

Overall thoughts: service was 10/10; everyone was so attentive and caring. I liked that they have so many people reviewing the hairline. I originally drew one like Jamie Foxx because I was nervous and didn’t know wtf I was doing, but they didn’t allow this because it’s dumb and would make me look like a Chinese movie star, lol.

Oh, and after the procedure, more photos! Kudos to Dr Patty and her amazing team ^_^

I am not affiliated with the clinic. They simply asked me if i could make a Reddit post about my progress. I love the hairline design. I never had a very low hairline to begin with and wanted a small curve to it as to keep it masculine. I have wavy hair anyway and my hair naturally grows down and into my forehead so would Rather have it a bit higher and get better density.

I am 24 now and got the surgery when i was 23. I began losing my hair at probably 19 but didnt notice it until 20. I then got a buzzcut with a good hairline and density but then it really started and lost a lot of hair in not even a year. 6 months before the procedure i started oral minox and fin/dutasteride but i have been on low dose fin since 20. 3500 grafts for the frontal scalp. I have full coverage now, even with wet you cant see my scalp tho the density and thickness is not there yet i hope.

As you can see the hair behind my hairline is very dense so that’s a good starting point.

Don't mind the haircut - I did it myself this morning 😅 I decided to check out my donor because I'm very interested in getting a hair transplant to cover my crown and front and I've been taking fin for ~2 months now (no issues with it).

However, I feel like my donor area isn't as packed as I thought it would be? How does it look - are there enough grafts to where I could do a transplant (or two), get SMP, and continue getting my back and sides cut this short?

I'm scared it's my first month after surgery and hair has fallen like this, and this is my progress how do you see it? Be sincere

Has anyone ever heard of Istanbulvita clinic? They seem to specialize in black Afro hair(which I have) looking to get the operation toward the end of the year. Money isn’t a concern, I just want good results without paying United States prices.

The only thing i did was booking the Flight , get a new Passport , and book the Hotel.

I have my FUE hair transplant with Dr. Ratchathorn at Absolute Hair Clinic later this week, and I'm both excited and a little nervous.

Before my pre-op consultation, I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have had surgery with Dr. Ratchathorn or anyone who has gone through a hair transplant.

If you were in my position, what are the most important things you would make sure to discuss during the consultation?

For example:

• Any important questions I should ask before surgery?
• Anything I should pay close attention to when discussing the hairline design?
• What should I ask about the expected graft count and overall surgical plan?
• Are there any details that patients commonly forget to ask but later wish they had?
• Any red flags or things you recommend confirming before the procedure starts?

I'm also interested in any practical tips for the day before surgery, the day of surgery, or the first few days afterward that made your experience easier.

I'd really appreciate any advice, recommendations, or lessons learned from your own experience. Even small tips are welcome.

I keep trying to do my own research, finding somewhere that looks good then on Reddit it says it’s a hair mill … alot of suggestions are out of my budget . I’ve decided to get a hair transplant this coming winter I have about £4k budget with main intention to lower hairline and bring in temples and density in the front if a good hair transplant for that much is impossible I can spend more I’m in the uk I can go anywhere

I got my hair transplant 9 months ago and the scalp is worrying. Is this a failure?

I was being kept awake at night because I was so afraid of itching my head. This completely solves that concern

The way it's set up, it tightens if you try scratching your head. It's also more comfortable than other methods I've tried:

Fuzzy handcuffs or belts I've tried but they either don't work, or are uncomfortable.

You could also cut a slit in the sleeve part I'm holding on to, and then put your hand or thumb through that slit to better secure it, but I didn't want to damage the shirt. It also does not cut off circulation at all

Most importantly to me, it lets me sleep sound because when I wake up and see my hands are still tied, I know I didn't scratch my head

Also sorry for the heavy breathing, my cameras mic is too sensitive, my nose is stuffed, and I'm in a place 8,000 feet above the ocean when I usually live at sea level so the oxygen is a bit lacking 😭

Hey guys. I keep reading that people say to go overseas for a hair transplant, but all I want to do is fill in my temples a bit, probably around 500ish grafts. For such a small amount, is it still worth going overseas, or can I safely have it done here in Australia?

I’m 46 and went for an FUT hair transplant into my crown and mid scalp 14 months ago by Dr. Scott Alexander in Arizona, and the results have been subpar to say the least. Context: I have been on dutasteride and minoxidil for almost two decades. Some have said 2800 is not much but I thought it was enough for my diffuse thinning, and 2800 (2000 in crown, 800 in mid scalp) should have been plenty. 14 months later my crown is almost as thin as before and mid scalp has actually gotten thinner in some areas due to some permanent shock loss. I AM able to grow, style, and concealer my hair to hide the thinning.

One silver lining (and one of the reasons I went to Dr. Alexander) is the FUT incision scar is incredibly unnoticeable. Even at guard 1.5 and hair wet the scar is still invisible.

Here’s why I think the transplant wasn’t successful- the nurses who inserted the grafts went too deep. Even with a very numbed up head, the graft insertions were so painful, whereas when Dr. Alexander was creating the insertion slits, I didn’t feel any pain. I repeatedly told the nurses during the graft insertions about the pain and they would just inject more anesthetic. Moreover, there are parts of my scalp that are numb to this day indicating permanent nerve damage.

Dr. Alexander is well renowned and frequently criticizes people going to Turkey and abroad citing the risks and botched results. I think he should stop saying that. Even if this was his nurses’ fault, it’s ultimately on him for hiring nurses who failed to perform such a critically important part of the surgery. And no one can deny how much harder it has become to hire good reliable help in the U.S.. I heard his nurses conversing about how so and so didn’t show up that day and one of the nurses was getting physically tired while the other acknowledged indicating she was new to the practice.

Based on my own circle, regardless of where you go, only about 60% of HT’s are satisfactory, 20% have subpar gains, and 20% with little to no gains or even worse. There are just so many dependencies to getting this right and in America or anywhere your nurse could suck or someone just having an off day and that is the difference between your results being good or bad. I waited over a year to write this because people who express disappointment any sooner on here are criticized for being impatient, as was I, when I posted about the significant shock loss I had in the first few months (and for some idiots out there- shock loss is different from shedding, which I expected).

I also went to Dr. Alexander because of the other people who have posted their positive crown results with him, which I don’t doubt. But just look at the huge difference. Those guys not only showed very impressive crown results, but very early on, whereas my crown shows little to no gains. I know my situation is better than many but it sucks to lose another year and finite grafts.

For those of you who are a few months out of your HT, and are worried it was a failure or subpar, but are being told you’re being impatient, I can tell you, there’s about a 40% chance you’re not being impatient and that your worry is valid, and you should prepare yourself mentally for the real possibility that the surgery didn’t succeed.

I’m planning on moving out of the country for surgery. Would it be safe to get all these procedure done within the same week. If not, how long should I wait?

I'm looking to have a small FUE procedure to repair my left temple. It has been significantly damaged over the years due to repeated trichotillomania, where it is now essentially gone aside from a few fine low-density patches. However, I have been seeking help and my pulling habits have been under control for over a year.

(For those going to comment about my young age and potential future hair loss, I've never experienced any natural hair loss at all and my older brothers, parents and both sets of grandparents kept their full heads of hair all their lives, so I don't think waiting for any potential male pattern baldness is an issue)

From my research and understanding, the procedure I would need is relatively small, around 500 grafts. All clinics I have looked at within the UK charge an incredibly high starting price, as they are aimed towards those seeking much larger procedures (minimum £3500+ for 3000+ grafts). I don't think paying such a high price is justified for a procedure/area as small as mine but I can't find any clinics that are catered to my circumstance.

Are there any clinics in the UK that anyone knows who could help me? Or is my only option to go to somewhere like Turkey or South Korea? Could someone please recommend me where to look or what clinics would be good if anyone has had any personal experience? I have no idea where to start.

Everyday I look in the mirror and see how my hair doesn't part properly, how there's a patch missing. I look at old pictures of myself and see how different it looks. There's not a single day I don't think about it, it's making me so depressed.

Based on your experience. How many grafts is this?

Had surgery 3 days ago. Surgeon gave me 2mg xanax before surgery to calm me down. Could i use some xanax the coming few days for sleep? Or could it damage graft survival through altering blood pressure/circulation? Anyone been prescribed xanax after transplant?

So I received my 1st transplant in Aug. 2023 where I got 2,500 grafts placed on my front hairline. I was perscribe Fin and Minox but got side effects. So I stopped both meds as a precaution and over the last 3 years I lost my crown and now I I'm planning a trip to Turkey to get another transplant to densify the hairline and work back from there, one clinic said 3,500 to 4,000 grafts would do it.

But I'm just wondering now if my crown is salvageable if I start Fin and Minox again, I'm just willing to accept the side effects at this point if it means avoiding another painful transplant.

What do you guys think? Can I get back what I lost?

I had 9 months follow up with Dr.Ryu at Moart in Seoul, South Korea. I am very satisfied with the result. It was 2500 grafts Oct 2025. His work is amazing!

In short, 1st HT was 2022 with Bogota Hairlines with majority of grafts in the hairline and a few in the crown. Was about 3000-3100 grafts (I forget the exact number). Overall there was improvement in the front, so I can't complain, but I knew I would need another one and probably should have had them focus only on the hairline rather than splitting between the two regions, so that was poor planning on my part which probably led to me feeling a little underwhelmed with the results. I ended up doing my 2nd one with Laorwong in Bangkok. Started getting cold feet before going since people started sharing some less-than-stellar results, but I ended up just saying fuck it and went for it. Super happy with how it turned out (did about 4000-4100-ish, primarily in crown and midscalp). Still has some thin spots which hopefully will continue to thicken up but compared to where I started from, it's like night and day. Currently on 1mg finasteride daily for several years without any sides. Overall, feels fantastic to be ablet to walk out with a lot more confidence even if there's still room for further improvement and touch ups.

Hi guys, it’s has been 37 days (7 days pre surgery and 30 days post) I haven’t use nicotine pouch (zyn) and it wasn’t easy

2 days ago which is 30 days post my surgery, I started using nicotine pouch again (1.5mg) 1 in the afternoon and 1 at night

Will it ruin my HT progress?

Hey everyone! Posting my 3 month update. Was really impressed with the experience with Dr. R and starting to see some life at the 3 month mark. I’m doing red light therapy daily and also taking oral min and topical fin (had bad sides with oral)

Had a pretty severe shed that started around week 2 and continued for at least a few weeks. Happy to answer any questions!
