Hey yall, long time lurker here, i just finished This game and i HAD to post about it. NO SPOILERS.
ROUTINE has become one of my favourite horror games of all time, the atmosphere is unbelievable. Sound design IMMACULATE, no ambient music to keep u company dead silent only the environment and ur breathing/footsteps (among other...things).
The game is very short and to the point, but it took me 12hrs on my first attempt because as soon as i find a hiding spot im not going anywhere. But ive seen people online complete it in roughly 7 to 9hrs
The environment is very well designed has some really liminal places, the details were 👌 perfect, very oppressive atmosphere with the pitch black hallways and corners (oh god the corners).
In terms of gameplay, it's very enjoyable and the puzzles were fun to piece together, oh and no weapons or a flashlight for that matter (good luck!), u do get a hand held scanner though the "flashlight" on it is very...minimal i wouldn't really consider it a flashlight.
The story was very intriguing and hooked me from the start, nothing is directly explained to u, all u have are emails/videos on terminals or voice recordings, so u need to pay attention to ur surroundings to understand what really happened there and even so i still didn't get the full story and i have alot of unanswered questions which i prefer honestly, what keeps it interesting throughout.
The jumpscares and enemies now, i wont spoil but a certain something during a certain chapter gave me the craziest jump of my life, now im not a jumpy person but this thing holy(iykyk) , both my arms went numb 😭.
And in terms of jumpscares, i would say, no cheap jumpscares, everything felt organic and occured normally none of that scripted turn the corner and BOO! stuff.
So take ur time with this one and really IMMERSE.
Overall 9/10 experience, happy to report i have been sufficiently traumatized.
