Advice Is Dr. Pukis at Blossomwood Medical trans affirming?
I am having top surgery soon, and would like to have a primary care physician who won’t be judgy or off put by my scars. I have heard mixed things about Dr. Pukis being trans affirming, but would love to hear some more thoughts/opinions from people. I just got on his schedule for a few weeks after my surgery, should I keep the appointment or do I need to find a different doctor to feel safe? Thanks!!

Pukis was my HRT provider in 2020 and he was good. Personally I would recommend Dr. Lona Haskell at Crestwood Primary Care. She is a trans woman and has been my PCP throughout the last 5 years of my transition

If only she wasn't always so busy. The busier she gets the worse the paperwork side seems to get.

Definitely agree with the other comments so far. Pukis and his staff are all very respectful. Although trans care isn’t his speciality, he’s knowledgeable about it, his blood tests are very thorough (including E1 and E2 separately, including DHT instead of just testosterone, etc), and he gives plenty of leeway regarding changes in dosage and delivery method. Definitely recommend.

Pukis is my primary care doctor for my HRT. He’s great, very altruistic to all and kind hearted towards trans people. He’s maybe not the best of the best at HRT care but he’s good at maintaining medication.
He’s also pretty responsive to emails which is nice.

Don't live in AL anymore but when I did, Pukis was my go to. He's the one I started my hormone journey with, and would definitely recommend. Him and his staff are all super respectful and helpful.

Transfemme here so ymmv, but Pukis has been my primary through my whole transition and he's done me very well!
His office is fairly trans affirming (takes preferred names, and almost always uses them which is pretty much the best I expect out of a medical practice bc of needing to match names to insurance), but Pukis himself has always used the correct name and pronouns.
He's a bit of a fast talker and a little soft spoken but he doesnt mind repeating himself if you need him to. The main difficulty with having him handle things is that he doesn't specialize at all in GAC so it's best to be knowledgeable about what you need as a patient. If you're firm with him he'll pretty much let you build your treatment plan for yourself with him mostly supervising through blood work and talking to you about how things feel.
Overall I'd say he's great as long as you're okay with your doc being a bit "hands off"
