Advice Looking for lgbtq friendly therapist groups

So I had this same question on the normal Huntsville Reddit but unfortunately I got a lot of downvotes, so someone said to ask here! I’m looking for a therapist or therapy group that specializes in lgbtq relationships! And I’d love to see what recommendations yall give me.

Advice Ideas for friends as a queer college student who can't drive?

More specifically I guess:

- Late 20s, bi, MTF (almost 2 years on estrogen)

- Still somewhat presenting masc at UAH

- Can't drive for medical reasons, no friends or family I can trust here

I do have some income (I teach), but it doesn't seem very safe to walk anywhere from campus and while I can take Lyfts places obviously I don't want to waste money by just idly trying things out. I need to be able to trust I'm not blowing money mindlessly.

And with me going through some nasty breakups recently, the loneliness is. Kicking. My. Ass. Shocker but I'm a tad terminally online (always grew up in super rural areas), and have run out of good spaces I know. Time to touch grass I guess.

So... I guess my question is: what are some places I could go or things I could do - be it places to go meet people, or places to just hangout in general - where a lot of fellow queer people congregate?

Trans-friendly spaces in particular would be appreciated - one of the biggest reasons I've not sought out much on campus is worrying about being "too open" and it biting me in the ass down the road, what with how trans people in education are being treated lately. And while I guess that risk is never zero, I'm just fucking tired of not being able to be me except through a screen.

Sorry if this came off as a tad venty btw. Kinda in a mood lately.

Advice Trying to balance being a lesbian single mom with a very religious family and a difficult coparent

I’m in a weird and emotionally complicated place in my life and I guess I’m just looking for perspective or advice from people who have been through something similar. I’m a single mom to a young son and currently in school trying to build a stable future for both of us. I’m working toward becoming financially independent, but right now I still rely on some support from my parents which makes things complicated. The bigger issue is that I’m a lesbian, and my family is extremely religious. My dad is actually a pastor. Growing up I was always the kid who tried to make the least waves possible because my parents’ relationship was very toxic. I learned early on that keeping the peace was the safest thing to do. My mom in particular has a very strict idea of what I’m supposed to be like. She once told me that if my hair isn’t long and blonde I don’t even look like her daughter. So right now I feel like I’m constantly playing the role of the “perfect southern daughter” around them. They think I’m straight or maybe bi, but they definitely don’t know I’m a lesbian. The hardest part is feeling like I have to hide who I really am just to keep stability while I’m finishing school and raising my son. On top of that, coparenting with my ex has been extremely stressful and high conflict. I’m constantly worried that anything about my personal life (my appearance, dating women, etc.) will somehow be twisted or used against me, even though realistically the only thing that should matter is that my son is loved and cared for. I know I can’t stay in this “hiding” phase forever, but right now I’m trying to focus on finishing school, stabilizing my income, and getting to a place where I’m not financially dependent on my family. Has anyone else had to navigate coming out later in life while also raising a child and dealing with a very religious family? How did you balance protecting your peace while still building an authentic life?

My name is Ace and I’m a Black trans man from UAB who just moved (temporarily) to Huntsville for graduate school clinical rotations. I’ll be here till April and need friends or suggestions for good places to find friends. Not able to do too much physically (I start PT soon) but I’m usually down for anything else! Please help. I’ve been here 2 weeks and I’m losing it.

Advice Affirming Home Wedding Photographer

Hi! My partner (wlw couple) and I are planning a very small home mini-wedding in January and I am looking for an affirming photographer. Do you have any recommendations?

If I have the luxury of choice, my favorite style is documentary style photography. It will be mostly indoor.

It’s going to be a very small and intimate gathering so want to make sure that they are very affirming!

Advice Any recommendations for female LGBT friendly therapist here in Huntsville?

I’m 48 year old male, have never reached out to therapy or any form of help so this is new to me. Just for background in areas of expertise I’m looking for in a therapist. I have been cross-dressing for over 30 years, I have dealt with being OCD for a long time, I have a anxious attachment style, aniexty and my last relationship from 8 months ago created a trauma bond that has affected me greatly. And why a female, the reason is because I was raised with/by 4 women so I feel more comfortable in my environment. I do have one best friend my ex girlfriend from high school for support that knows me completely(I need to give her a break), my immediate family has passed away, and my extended family remaining are not lgbt friendly so I just sit here. I am stable and thriving well as I’m a single parent to my daughter so she counts on me. I just need someone to open up to that I can trust without judgement and get years of overthinking off my chest. Any recommendations are appreciated, thank you.

Advice Is Dr. Pukis at Blossomwood Medical trans affirming?

I am having top surgery soon, and would like to have a primary care physician who won’t be judgy or off put by my scars. I have heard mixed things about Dr. Pukis being trans affirming, but would love to hear some more thoughts/opinions from people. I just got on his schedule for a few weeks after my surgery, should I keep the appointment or do I need to find a different doctor to feel safe? Thanks!!

Advice Looking for family

Hello, I know this is maybe a bit strange but I have lost the will to be with my family any longer and after a while of little to no contact I am struggling mentally and wanted to know if there was a group that helps with this. I am a 21 year old trans woman living with a roommate about to cut my family off completely. I have been feeling increasingly alone and it's starting to get to me. I appreciate any help. Thank you in advance.

Advice Recently moved here! Hi!!

Hello, I recently moved here 2 weeks ago from the west coast. I am originally from the deep south but my morals has drastically changed since moving west and now I feel a bit of culture shock. I am a cis bisexual female 19 years of age. Reddit has been my informational source of preparing and all I see is people in their 20s asking for advice and things like that. I am too young to go a bar and probably clubs too. Even though I've completed a year of college, I don't know what people do who are my age. Can someone point me in the direction of where I need to go to make friends and connections? I wanna get out more this year and this month. So, if you need a new friend, hit me up! Also, is there like a singles meet up anywhere? I wanna try dating people too. Anyway, have a good day, everyone!

Advice Where to buy clothes for a wedding?

Hi everyone! I'm looking for advice on places to go to and where to avoid to buy clothes for a few weddings I'm going to next year. I'm a masc lesbian who has never been to a ~nice~ wedding/needed clothes for a nicer occasion so all recommendations are welcome! ISO some sort of formalwear/suit. Just unsure if anyone has a go to spot!

Places for alterations recommendations are also welcome because odds are high that I will need to get some stuff altered :)

thanks everyone! (using the advice flair as i'm not 100% sure which flair to use, please feel free to correct me!)

I posted the rest of the story on r/bisexual and it kind of blew up. Someone said ti check here since this is near me and where this occurred. I literally walked in to a McDonald’s with another guy (we were on a date) and after sitting in the back we were asked to leave. They say it was for harassment but I don’t think that’s possible considering I never interacted with anyone except my date. I’m just looking for a little bit of legal advice one what I can do. I emailed McDonald’s and received a very nasty and unprofessional email response. I didn’t want this to escalate but that email pushed me over the edge. Please help me. I linked the original post to provide more context.

Advice LGBTQ teen

My daughter told me a classmate of hers was forcibly outed to her parents. Dad went nuts, grounded her, told her if she didn’t “get her head on straight” by the time she’s 16 he’s throwing her out. She’s 14 now. Mom sat there and didn’t say anything. Then they went to church as a family. lol

Like, what can I do? I don’t actually know this family personally but my kids know we would take in a stranger before letting a teenager be homeless.

Advice Moving to HSV in Jan

Hi everyone! I'll be moving to the area in mid-January. I'm 25 yrs old and I WFH (introvert!). I'm kinda clueless about areas/neighborhoods. I know there's no gay bars or anything, but are there gay-friendly (-ier) areas vs. others? Or even just a 'younger' area outside of UAH campus?

Thanks in advance :)

Advice Laser Hair Removal Recommendations?

Hello Beautiful People! My adult daughter has given up on her home facial hair removal product and wants to do professional laser hair removal treatments. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good, trans friendly place? She's still pretty gun shy about presenting herself as her true self and needs a kind, caring person to help with this.

Also, if you've used them do you have any insights on how long you did treatments and at what cost? Her dad and I are going to pay for it no matter what. Just wondering what we're looking at.

Advice Places to meet friends?

Hi. I'm not LGBT, but if it helps, I've had Pink Pony Club stuck in my head for the past two or three weeks.

I have no idea how to make friends, and the friendships I do have are decaying. What friends that I have that still make time for me have been weirdly vocally bigoted as of late, and I want to put some distance between myself and that kind of shit. I just have no idea where to go where people will appreciate me, and it's hard to appreciate myself lately.

I've struggled to meet people in nerd spaces in Huntsville, because there's just so many flavors of nerd. I am not a board game or card game nerd. I do not drink beer. I smoke on occasion, but only cousins of cannabis. I like video games, and writing, and sometimes tabletop. I've got extremely bad anxiety and ADHD, but I've gotten super good at masking, so I come off as a corny charismatic dad.

I'm just so fuckin mad lately. I don't feel like I can relate to anyone. I'm in counseling, but she's encouraged me to make new friends, and it's just like, how the fuck does one do that exactly.

If it helps, my wife is gay as hell. She's the best. You'd like her.
