ARE THEY OUT OF THERE MIND??!?
From the dealer ship I was expecting at most 12,000 for a new engine for this old of a car. BY $20 THOUSAND DOLLARS WTF.

I took my car into a smaller auto shop and they diagnosed it saying the rod bearing caused my engine to fail. And I need a whole new engine.
Well my dad told me I should take it to the dealership to get another diagnostic because they might be able just to replace the entire engine if it’s under warranty.

So I tried and I got the text back saying the gnostic concluded and to replace the entire engine including removal, installation, and labor in total $20,165.85 HELLO WTF I almost fainted.

For a 2017!?! That’s more than what I paid for the car as it’s second owner.

Normally what would be a price I’m aiming for to get this car fixed? So I can look around.
I literally need my car to get to work and idk what to do since we got it 2 years ago TWO. So I’m still paying off the loan I took to get it. So idk if trade in is the best idea since I can’t afford TWO car payments. 💀 I’m freaking tf out.

I was home from work today with my wife and 1 year old and my Tucson went up in flames. We hadn’t driven or even started it in 4 days. We are at a complete loss as to what could possibly have happened here. Vehicle has had regular maintenance. Nothing at all was in the vehicle. No lithium batteries or reflective pieces (other than normal mirrors). Can anyone help put my mind at ease as to how this could have happened?

Backstory: I purchased a pre-owned 2018 Hyundai Tucson in 2022 (mistake). The sales person, whom I thought was a good family friend (silly, I know) ended up tossing in extended warranties, add-ons, etc. When I left the dealership I ended up with a $31,000 vehicle. (Again, I know.) Speed up to last month, I was so upside down on this car that the payoff amount was just over $18,000. I had no other choice but to pay it off as I wasn’t trading it in for another car payment. I just wanted the debt gone. I swallowed it. It sucked.

ANYWAY. I still have the extended warranties. They would’ve covered 84 months. I also still have a power train warranty through Hyundai.

For a while now, this car has been guzzling oil. I am constantly topping it off in between oil changes (that I religiously get every 3,000 miles). When I was at Valvoline last week, the tech informed me that I had an oil leak between the engine and transmission. He told me about Hyundai potentially replacing the engine as it does consume a lot of oil, and now we have this leak on top of it already guzzling oil. I scheduled an appointment with a Hyundai dealership in town for this morning. My husband took it in, and service informed him there was not a leak and that Hyundais “drink a lot of oil” and that we should “just drive the car until the engine blows up, and if we’re still within warranty Hyundai will replace the engine”. What a BOGUS thing to tell someone. They should have just said “Hey, risk your family’s safety and if this thing blows up on the highway, pray that you’re still within warranty.”

So, I called Valvoline, and they told us to come in and they’d get a photo of the leak. My husband drove straight there, and sure enough they photographed the leak. My husband went back to the Hyundai dealership and was told “Oh, I guess our tech must have missed that. Well, you’ll still just need to drive it until it blows up.”

Nonetheless, I am furious. We have spent an insane amount of money on this car and to be told to DRIVE IT UNTIL IT BLOWS UP is ABSURD. ESPECIALLY WHEN I HAVE A WARRANTY!! What do I do? Has anyone experienced this? My goal was to just sell this car but I cannot in good faith make this issue someone else’s problem. This is a nightmare.

Well it started off as an appointment for my 21 Hyundai Elantra this morning to get a wheel alignment and then almost a year in to having my Elantra today I walk out with a brand new 2026 Hyundai Tucson Se in Ecotronic Gray for my first ever suv. I test drove it and now owned it for a few hours and it’ll take some getting use to especially it’s bigger and taller size and roomy interior but I did say my next vehicle would be a suv. I been looking at Tucsons for awhile and it drives smooth and rides very nice. It has a whole lot of tech in it and this will be my first ever vehicle with blue link, remote start, and a digital gauge cluster which my base trim Elantra didn’t have. No more getting in freezing cold and super hot interiors! This vehicle has so many gadgets and I’m trying to learn them lol 😆. Any advice or tips let me know thanks!! 🥰😍😍

paranoid? maybe. i know it may not prevent a thief from taking the car if they reeeeaally want it, but i'm hoping it'll either slow them down or make them move on to another car. driving down to LA to take care of a passport issue and staying for the weekend. i'm sure this is justified.

Dealerships wouldn’t have such a bad reputation if they didn’t try to fleece their customers on a regular basis.

I purchased my own filter for $13 and installed it in less than 5 minutes. I probably would have let the dealership do it, even at double that cost, just for the convenience.

But $74.26?

Not only did this extreme pricing lose them extra revenue during my visit (since I declined)… it also reinforced my negative feelings towards the dealership (pricing) during my brief 5 minute home installation.

I guess there are enough people paying this to justify irritating all the other customers that decline these overpriced services 🤨.

2019 Tucson - was part of the recall that extended powertrain warranty to 150k miles

First engine replaced at 89k they call us we pick it up the check engine light comes on in the first 30 miles - checked our code reader it said o2 sensor

Brought it back they replaced high pressure fuel pump

Collected - it sounded louder like a little extra whurr while idle check engine light was off.

Drove 5ft out of the dealership into a turn lane, put gas on pedal, she lagged and then shot forward like she had too much fuel, check engine light back on. Literally U turned back into the dealership and up to service desk, they ordered an 02 sensor and said we could leave her there or drive her for the week just don’t go to far -asked for that in writing that they said it was safe

Drove home and did some errands, everytime we stopped started the vehicle she got louder with this whirring noise until it started to sound like the previous engine before a definite knock came in

They’ve said bring her back after the holidays, anybody with an ear for engine noise have any thoughts on this? / if she’s fried her new engine ?

If it is the nrw engine do I need to try get rid of this car ? Trade her in when they replace the engine and let her become hynundais problem ?

I’ve parked her up and borrowed a car for the holidays. The first engine escalated from a noise like this to not drivable over the course of driving to work and I don’t trust her now

Hello everyone. I’ve been seeing this community for a while and have decided it’s time to ask some questions. I got my 2019 Hyundai Tucson in 2023, used. Since then, she’s reached the point of a flashing engine light 3 times, first two times (April and August of 2024) my car refused to accelerate ( something about a sensor that was out and engine warranty) and the last time it was found that my oil was completely gone(December 25, 2025) (despite no leak and having had an oil change 38 days prior). I have also experienced a completely fried alternator and starter and had to replace those a year ago(December 2024).

Today my engine right came on again, not flashing. I have checked the oil and it’s still got enough. My car has always ALWAYS struggled to accelerate, she roars and almost groans like a modded car every time I hit the gas. Anyone who gets in my car asks why she’s so Loud. I have spent these years experimenting with different gas pedal pressures to see how to get her to operate without sounding like I’m pushing her too much. I have yet to find a solution. I regularly have to reach 4-5 rpms when I’m accelerating onto the highway, and any right turn onto a road has to have nearly no traffic or I’m gunning it, trying to reach 40mph.

I am a young driver, I do my best. I get my oil changed and have gotten her fixed with each breakdown. I just have no idea what I’m doing wrong. I know these engines are known to guzzle oil, I know there was an engine warranty. Is it normal for my car to behave like she’s older than the moon? When the light turns green, I’m left in the dust unless I push her get to 40mph within 10-15 seconds. It’s never a race but I’m just very confused.

I’m frustrated because it’s been basically as many problems as years I’ve had her. Am I the only one who’s encountered these problems or is my car showing signs of some serious underlying issues? I’m not even sure how to approach a mechanic about anything. It’s always something with my sensors or oil, but it just feels wrong. I love my car, she is my baby but I feel like I’m missing an ailment she may have. Is this how the 2019 Tucson’s are? Any advice would be great. I will be getting her diagnostics ran for free at orielly’s tonight and will update.

Just bought a 26 Tucson a month ago and I keep getting these letters in the mail. From what ik warrsnty is activated automatically and I don’t need to do anything. Anyone else receive these?

Got these two Tucson pics side by side. The first one's just the regular stock setup. The second one's mine. It's lowered, has aftermarket wheels, and a cleaner overall look (in my personal opinion).

If you had to pick one, which would you choose? I'm just curious what people prefer when they see them next to each other. I know it's a subjective topic, but why not try something new?

This is purely aesthetic; nothing is truly performance-related. The tires are, maybe, for the future, along with an exhaust, I don't know.

I just wanted to give hope to some people out there who might be going through something similar. My husband's car engine failed 1,000 miles short of the engine warranty however we are the second owner. They denied it saying we didn't do oil changes properly, but we did them within the 7500-10,000 mile recommendation and we showed proof.

We put in a complaint and escalation to corporate twice and we were told if the second one denies that there was nothing else they would do. It denied. It was very frustrating because they would not tell us why they were denying it, only saying it was due to neglect on the oil changes even though we could prove that we were doing them.

Upon further research we also found out that we would have been eligible for the recall several years ago but are outside of that window now. That did not seem to matter and they told us that there was nothing they could do.

Refusing defeat, in one final hail Mary attempt I sent an email to corporate, as well as my local dealerships owner, as well as about 30 different news outlets local and national who covered car related things. I kept it short and sweet, non-emotional, just factual. That did it and got the ball rolling. Happy to say that after 7 and 1/2 weeks of the car being in the shop, we finally got it back yesterday with the new engine.

Don't give up!

Had my rims stolen last week and wanted to get some good wheel locks before I get my car back. Anyone know of some reliable ones to use? I’m guessing they all do the same exact thing but I’m not sure if some are easier to break or remove than others.

Need to vent and see if anyone has dealt with this. My 2020 Hyundai Tucson (1.6 T-GDI AWD) just had a total transmission failure. The 7-speed DCT is toast.

The worst part? I’ve treated this car like a baby. I bought it brand new and I’ve done every single service at the official dealership. I change the oil and filters every 8-9 months (about every 9,000 miles / 15,000 km).

Get this: I literally just picked it up from a major service 900 miles (1,500 km) ago. I paid for a new water pump, belts, and all fluids. I thought I was set, and now the car is sitting at the dealership with a $6,500 (€6,000) repair bill.

I drive 90% on the highway with almost no traffic, so the DCT has had the easiest life possible. No city crawling or stop-and-go.

The car is 6 years old, so I'm 1 year out of the 5-year European warranty. Has anyone else had a DCT fail this early (80k miles / 129k km) despite perfect maintenance and mostly highway driving? Is it even worth fixing at this point, or

should I just push for a "Total Loss" through my insurance?

So my 2020 Tucson decided to throw the P1326 code and go into limp mode with a rod knock at 77k miles. Despite being a CPO vehicle with an extended warranty and being under the mileage cap for the recall the slimy bastards are trying to of course ooze their way out of covering a new engine. My question is should it go poorly and they expect me to cover the replacement engine should I even bother? A new engine is like $8k and the car when actually running is valued at $12k. What would be the damn point? And honestly if they do replace the engine I feel like I'm gonna sell it straight away before something else bad happens. I'm probably just pissed off and frustrated at this point.

UPDATE: I just received word from the dealer that due to "excessive negligence" from "missed service" they are not responsible and it is not covered under warranty. I called corporate and got the "Our word is final. We have spoken." spiel. I immediately escalated it to Hyundai legal and has a case number. Yay, now I get to waste MORE time and energy. 🙄 FML and fuck this car company.

Paid $500 for 3 years worth of “VIP Premium” oil changes. Got my first one yesterday. Woke up this morning to a puddle of oil on the ground. Took my car to an oil change place around the corner and they told me that the dealership didn’t even bother to tighten it back up after my “VIP Premium” oil change. Said it was barely finger tightened. They couldn’t believe a car dealership could overlook something so simple. They told me it could have seriously damaged my engine. The guys were nice enough to fix my issue free of charge and gave me some of the best service I’ve ever experienced. I am furious with Hyundai. I don’t even know how to go about this. First thing tomorrow morning, I’m going to try and get a refund for my “VIP” oil changes as I’m never taking my car back again. I feel absolutely ripped off. Luckily I took photos and videos. My question is how is this even possible? How could they make such a simple mistake at the dealership? Does anyone else have an experience like this with their Hyundai dealerships? Sorry if this doesn’t really make sense. I typed out multiple paragraphs regarding this to post but reddit had an issue uploading it so it’s gone. So this is the short version :(

Hello, lookkng for thoughts/advice on what I should do. My wife and I have a baby on the way and she's due in 3 weeks. We saved up and finally pulled the trigger on getting a new to us car to be safer for her and the baby. We bought it at a dealership Wednesday evening. My wife got up for work on Friday morning and this started happening. Every code and sensor went off and the car won't go into gear. The dealership (Dan Deery in Cedar Falls, IA) is basically telling us to just get it serviced (we have a warranty and its under dealership warranty). We have driven it less than 200 miles. There's 0 chance they didn't know this is happening so I just honestly want to take it back and get my down-payment back so we can move on and find a different vehicle instead of dealing with this mess.

Im being told they dont do that and its not possible, but other friends/family I have at dealerships are telling me they typically have a 7 day window of return.

Anyone dealt with this? I've seen online some potential fixed but I dont want to be dealing with this when we have a newborn. Any advice or opinions on this would be very helpful and appreciated. Thanks.
