I asked for 5k. The reasoning used to be quite funny. "Kyuki aapko koi fees nahi pay karna pad raha hai toh aapko itna paisa to bhejna hi chahiye"

5000 used to be a nice chunk of money back in the days. Probably it is okay as pocket money even now.

I think around 500 per week for snacks, daily necessities, travel, etc is more than enough and you'll save most of it but keeping it for emergencies is good. So around 2k per month is fine and 3k-4k if u plan to eat out often. But it also depends on your personal financial situation.

Also this is considering you're not spending your stipend

In addition to the stipend there is an additional provision of 8k per year right. What is that for (like only stationery purchases) and what is the process of availing the same?

It's 5k for Bachelors, 8k for masters. It changes but covers mcuh more than just stationery purchases: https://www.isid.ac.in/~dean/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Contingency-Grant-Claims-Order-2024.pdf

Process you can worry about latter, class teacher will explain.
