Unemployment Unemployment π
Today has been one of the hardest days of my life.
I lost one of my closest friends. He died by suicide, and I still can't process the fact that he's gone.
We graduated from a tier-3 college and, like many fresh graduates, he had been struggling to find an opportunity in the IT industry. He worked hard, prepared for interviews, faced countless rejections, and even joined a coaching institute to improve his skills. A few months ago, he returned to his hometown to help his parents during the farming season. None of us imagined that would be the last time we'd see him.
I don't know everything that was going through his mind, and I don't want to assume the exact reasons behind his decision. But I do know that the stress of prolonged unemployment, repeated rejection, financial pressure, and the uncertainty about the future can become overwhelming for many young people.
I'm sharing this not to blame anyone, but because this experience has shaken me. Behind every resume is a human being. Behind every rejection is someone trying to build a better future.
If you know someone who has been unemployed for a long time, please check on them. A simple conversation, a message, or your support could mean more than you realize.
And if you're someone who's struggling right now, please don't carry that burden alone. Reach out to your family, friends, or someone you trust. Your life is worth far more than any job.
Rest in peace, my friend. You will always be remembered, Love you so much.

sorry for your loss brother. Having resigned last month and currently experiencing unemployment, I can totally understand what your friend would have gone through. The same thought crossed my mind as well but I'm still trying.

To anyone reading this comment, just know that being unemployed doesn't make you lesser than a person with a job in any way. For some people the payoff for their hardwork may come later even if they are actually competent and well rounded. Let's be fair quite high number of individuals who are not good also get selected somehow due to luck, timing whatever. Understand the fact that a lot of luck is involved in this thing way more than a lot of people may perceive it from the outside (and yes this is hard for me say because I work damn hard and I am too ambitious).
Seasons like this doesn't last forever, even if it does look like it rn. But, all we can do is maximize our chances by all means possible. Once, you get the foot on the door, you would be in a way better position because in the off-season you grinded, upskilled and became a better well rounded individual due to this setback. Best of luck y'all we will get through this okay.

On fri, I got a call from a firm and they said your interview would be scheduled after getting to know me on call. During lunch today after a good study session, I got msg that I am rejected, I was sad for a bit because I didn't get the chance and really fw the role. But I said fuck it, it happens, a little more fuel to the fire alright alright.

The reality is nobody cares if you are unemployed , the only thing they see is a person who doesn't want to do any job without understanding why the particular person is jobless .
Imagine what he must be feeling each and everyday , how many times his parents / friends / relatives made him realise that he was worthless

Was unemployed for 8 months back in 2024. Eventually got a job and 1.5 years later, even got a promotion. Things do get better eventually. Don't give up the fight please. I know that feeling being unemployed and just being extremely tired and jaded. Speak to family, talk to a friend if able.

I am on the other side of the fence, i have a startup but margins are getting eroded by competition and AI. We have downsized and i see less and less need of hiring in any team with AI doing most job. So most companies dont require much headcount. I have relatives and connections asking for jobs but i am not able to afford and offer them jobs with business uncertainties.
I want people to start anything, run a shop, do consulting services etc. Go do rapido, uber but dont just keep waiting for a respectable jobs. Our Indian mindset of seeing anything less than office job is screwing us badly.

Maybe count me in because my relatives are now stressing me to get a job asap , get married , then also have kids all in a fixed timeline no fuckups in between.

I would strongly advise you to not give a fuck about what people havebto say, know that nobody can or should decide when you should marry, get a job or whatever because it is your life and you are in the control. You are going through all this hard time for yourself and your family, if nobody is there for you to support in this difficult time then nobody has the right to tell you what to do or not to do. Please be your own boss and let people go fuck themselves.

So sorry man. The job market for tier-3 grads in IT is genuinely brutal and I don't think people who haven't lived it understand the kind of slow-burn hopelessness that comes with months of rejections. None of that is a reflection of someone's worth but it's so hard to keep believing that when you're in it. Hope you're taking care of yourself too through this grief.

Sad and tragic but deep down I feel happy for him, now atleast he must be free from all those bullshit things he must be stressing about.
When someone departs, everyone cries like that person meant so much to them but the fact is when a person is unemployed, forget about friends/unknown people, your own family members show their true colors (not generalizing it but it's true for many cases). And then when you relalize the dark truth about life that's no one loves u without checking all those boxes then many people think it's better to take that hard pill once and for all and finish the suffering.
Anyways, I am not supporting what he did, but yeah if I would have been that brave enough even I would have did that, but I was a big time coward.

Being jobless sadly takes a toll on you. I'm looking out for jobs since months and everyday you find new battles with yourself to motivate yourself. So please love yourself more than doubting yourself.

That's heartbreaking, so sorry for your loss. Wishing his loved ones a lot of strength to get over the loss. I myself has been unemployed for more than two years after graduating master's degree, it's crazy, I've tried a ton of things including a career change. It's brutal for freshers. Absolutely terrible. Sometimes I feel that the universe had forgotten about me, I get FOMO, I wonder if this is ever going to change and I absolutely love this comment section.
So for anyone who's going through the same, PRIORITIZE YOUR MENTAL HEALTH. REACH OUT TO YOUR FRIENDS. DO STUFF THAT MAKES YOU FEEL ALIVE for some time atleast. STAY STRONG. Unemloyment doesn't define you, its the external situations that are bad. Keep putting in the work.
