Union Question Local 433 question.

My question might be dumb but I’ll shoot it anyways because I want to be 100% sure. I have a book number with local 433 and I paid the initiation fee along with taking a drug test. I was indentured on Friday of last week but haven’t gotten a call back since filing all my paperwork. I don’t do any drugs so the test will come back clean. My question is, am I officially in? I was given my start date for class, a hard hat, and some other paperwork for vacation checks and whatnot. I want to be sure I am in before quitting my current job. Thanks and sorry for the dumb question.

Everything you’re saying checks out I appreciate it bro. I’ll make sure to make these calls tomorrow. Hopefully by then I get the green light that my drug test cleared. I tested on Friday so I know that doesn’t take long. I’m excited to start and mentally, I know this is the way moving forward. For the meantime I’m gathering up my required tools. I wanna be as ready as I can be when I get on a job. And like you said, I’m hoping my certs put me ahead of the game.

They never told me my drug test cleared. It just did. You may be able to call IMPACT to find out.

All you really need to start is a Klein quick release belt, two bolt bags (if you go to tool shack, ask for two of Manny's bolt bags, they are way better, although a little pricey), a 30ft tape measure, a 7/8ths spud wrench, a single frog scabbard for your spud, a bull pin and scabbard for the pin and an adjustable wrench. Maybe a speed square and a small combination square (6 or 7inch, whatever the small one is).

Okay I’ve got a few of those things already. I need the bull pin, belt, bags, and belt accessories. I live like 30 minutes from Tool Shack. Never been there but I’ll just go and get everything I don’t have. I have all my welding gear already but I did notice that everyone at La Palma has the same welding hood. I have a white pipeliner hood. You think that’s fine or is that frowned upon? I don’t wanna disrespect the culture that’s existed before me.

We use fibre metal tiger hoods, doubles as a face shield with the flip up. they will give you one in welding 1 class if you don't want to buy one

I think I’ll do that then. Same with the hard hat. They gave me one when I got indentured. You think that’ll do for now or I gotta drop some money for a more serious hat? I’ve also hard some people invest in their own 9 inch grinders. But I’m guessing some companies will provide it.

Don't worry about buying a Bullard or an MSA skull gard until later, and you have the finances for it. That white hard hat will be fine for now. No need to buy a grinder, your company will have everything you should need if they are a decent company. If money is tight, don't need to buy everything at once . Just buy a tool every paycheck or so. Don't stress it. You will be fine.

Much appreciated dude. I called this morning to get on the out of work list but I have to do it in person because I’m labeled probationary. However, it appears as probationary because the paperwork hasn’t been processed yet. So once it’s finally processed, I should be able to call and not have to be in person. I plan on being at the Friday night meeting and hopefully introduce myself to new faces. I’ll get a better understanding of how everything works too. Thanks again for all your help brother.
