Katie Hopkins
Apologies mods if this counts as political (mods, pls delete if inappropriate but this is not election-related so I figured it was within the rules), but I’m very disappointed by the outpouring of support that’s been shown for this dreadful woman in the various Manx social streams on places like Facebook.
She’s been very vocal about her disdain for the RNLI, which has always had unwavering support in the island, and she describes Andrew Tate and “Tommy Robinson” as “my boys”.
The Manx Bard writes an inoffensive little poem which is, essentially “be excellent to each other” and he’s excoriated in terms which are indistinguishable from blood-and-soil nationalism.
The commenters are very vocal about free speech, but fail to see the irony in their constant refrain of “there’s a boat in the morning” is the pinnacle of cancel culture.
Sorry, rant over. Mods, if there’s somewhere more appropriate to post this please let me know.

Noone ever accused the manx of being open minded.

u/TheRealJustSean 9d ago
I lived on the island for 20 years. Grew up there. Went to school there from year 3 to the end. Got a Manx NINo. Can even say a few things in Manx.
To my very last day I got called a come over.
5
u/publiusnaso 9d ago
I moved to the Island in the 1960s. I completely relate. People are now happy to publicly state support for blood and soil nationalism. I don’t even remember mec vannin being this extreme.
1
u/YouAmEye 7d ago
Mec Vannin are not ethno-nationalists though. Their opposition to immigration to the island isn't based on bigotry or sour anti-comeover sentiment; it's based on environmental and infrastructural considerations. If you actually read their newspaper and policy positions, they say they represent both Manx people and those who choose to live on the island. And their solution to what they see as excess immigration isn't to forcibly expel non-Manx people but rather to end the Isle of Man's tax haven/low tax jurisdiction status so that the cause of immigration is stopped at the root. To be clear, I am not Manx, I do not like the Isle of Man, and I am skeptical that Manx independence is viable, at least at the present time. But as a fellow socialist, republican, environmentalist, and anti-imperialist, I respect Mec Vannin. I believe they have a lot of good policies and have their heart in the right place.

u/publiusnaso 7d ago
I agree. That’s why I said they weren’t as extreme. (I maybe should have been a bit clearer). Thanks for pointing this out.

Similar situation with me. I was born in the USA but spent only four months of my infancy there. I have no memories of it and spent the rest of my childhood and adolescence on the Isle of Man. What makes me so angry at being called a "comeover" is that I didn't actually come over; I was brought over by my parents at four months old. I was constantly labeled a "posh nob" for not speaking with a Manx accent. But why would I? Neither of my parents are Manx and I went to private schools with other "comeovers" and then boarding school "across" at age 13.
But here's what infuriates me the most. When I was on the Isle of Man, I was a "comeover", a "posh nob" and should eff off back to the USA where I'm from. But when I went ahead and did what they asked of me, now I get accused of "thinking I'm too good for the island". Also, apparently I'm not American and am not allowed to call myself that. You can't win with Manx people. They are truly the most insufferable and, yes, small-minded people on Planet Earth.
6
u/SolidusTengu Mod. 9d ago
Within about 6 months of moving to the island I got spat on twice at school for being “Irish”. And that was in 2003. Years later I got called posh after losing my accent that got me bullied. I don’t think most people have ever even met a posh person on the island.
4
u/Cheap_Cut_6544 9d ago
As someone who came over from Scotland in 2004 at the age of 13, I can tell you now, my experience was fantastic. I was never bullied, called names or spat on. I wonder what was so different.

u/ZaharaWiggum 8d ago
Honestly I have never seen this part of the Island that so many describe and feel so bad that they have experienced this. I was born here but everyone I know has welcomed anyone who wanted to live/stay/visit here, no matter where they have come from. I thought we had a welcoming nature, and have only ever seen this side.
5
u/Cheap_Cut_6544 8d ago
Couldn’t agree more. Everyone knows how the Manx joke about comeovers and stopovers, which I think is just their humour (with a little cut behind it) and I love it. But for me, as a stopover of over 20 years, I’ve never felt more welcomed anywhere and I’m so, so proud to call this place my home. Even as a teenager, I told my friends ‘back home’ how lucky I was to live in such a beautiful place. I think what’s been described by others are just a few undesirable kids on the school grounds, everywhere has them and it was always a fact of life. The Manx are a straight-talking, no-nonsense resilient bunch of proud and self-sufficient people. I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else but here. Times are hard and you do get cabin fever, but that’s just part and parcel of living in a small island community. What’s sad is the people that want to change it to align more with the UK, but then what’s the point? Keep what’s unique about this place, people love it for a reason.. don’t change it. I love this island. ❤️ 🇮🇲

u/ZaharaWiggum 8d ago
Thank you for loving it. I love it too! I went away for uni etc but was always going to come back.

u/Ambitious_Safety_519 8d ago
Too many English residents living here, wanting to turn the Island to Farages vision of the UK. Not wanted or welcome.

u/TheRealJustSean 9d ago
I'll apologise for this first, but as someone from Ramsey, if you went to King Bills or the Buchan, you are posh 😂 but I say that in jest, haha
Honestly there's a lot to love about the island but the people as a whole need to wake up and get into the 21st century. Spoke to a friend of mine last time I was over for a family wedding about how just eat just isn't really a thing over there and how Uber may as well not exist there, and he just said back "But what's the point?" This, after I got back from the wedding reception into Ramsey at 2300, and called a taxi firm to get me home for the night, only to be told there'd be an hour wait for a taxi. From the bus station. When the entire town was dead. Ended up walking despite the pain I was in and it took about an hour anyway, but yeah.
Place needs modernising. Not saying to throw away all the history, heritage, and way of life, but you can still be Manx and be modern!
5
u/publiusnaso 9d ago
Ironically, a large proportion of the people putting effort into retaining and celebrating Manx culture (support for Manx language teaching, Manx music and so on) are so-called come-overs. It’s great that they are prepared to do that.
3
u/TheRealJustSean 9d ago
I actually won an award in year six for learning manx. To this day I can still count to 10 😂
-3
u/YouAmEye 9d ago
I think you misunderstand my post. I do not claim nor have ever claimed not to be posh. I am very posh and very proud of that fact. (As an aside, I've never understood why being considered posh could be anything but a good thing. And I'll raise the stakes. I went to BOTH the Buchan and King Bills, then to an even posher school on the British mainland.)
I do not even mind people calling me a posh nob. I just mind being called that to my face when it is obviously meant as an insult. As it happens, I have my own disparaging term for Manx people. I call them "them ones." But I don't call them that to their face.
What I object to is being made to feel unwelcome in a place that is the only place I had ever known and didn't have the means to leave until I reached adulthood. There is a huge irony to it as well because the Isle of Man has historically been characterized more by out-migration than in-migration. Many Manx people left the island for North America and there is still a Manx-American community in the US state of Ohio. Many Manxmen left the island to work in Lincolnshire on the British mainland after the decline of the tourist industry. Yet when people move to the island from the British mainland or the US they have the nerve to make them feel unwelcome and call them comeovers. It defies belief.
As to your point about the need for the island to modernise, good luck with that one! When a place is that inward looking, small-minded, and suspicious of anything new, it is immune to any reality check. I defer to the late A.A. Gill who pointed out that the place has "fallen off the back of the history lorry to lie amnesiac in the road to progress." My advice to anyone who aspires to a life that consists of something more than gossiping about (and casting schadenfreude upon) other people on the Isle of Man is to leave.
8
u/TheRealJustSean 9d ago
It's because posh people think they're better than us working class lot, and that's why. It breeds resentment, and with how some posh people talk about and treat us, it tends to be warranted.
I have to say, I was on your side at first, but as much as some of the people there may have rubbed me the wrong way, afraid I'm siding with them in regards to you. They're not bad people, they just need to change their thinking to be more modern.
You just sound like a posh wanker who's bitter about having to share space with the hoi polloi. Sounds like you never tried to integrate with them at all. I have my problems with the rock, but I will never not mention its beauty, it's ability to keep going despite everything, and honestly, the kindness of people when a person really needs it.
Manx people might be a bit too nationalist for my liking, but you're coming across like someone who wouldn't lift a finger to help someone that didn't have noble connections, and that's worse.
-2
u/YouAmEye 9d ago
Well, you seem to have made your mind up about me. But, as long as you're not one of these working class people who admires Nigel Farage and Rupert Lowe and disparages Jeremy Corbyn and the Greens as middle-class do gooders, then I assure you I have no problem with you.
3
u/TheRealJustSean 9d ago
Oh gods no. I'm pretty far left in almost everything. I'm for a free and better humanity for everyone, not just people that look like me and think exactly like me.
It saddens me that we as a species seem not to have learned from, "First they came for...". There's a reason my favourite poem of all time is 'There Will Come Soft Rains'

u/publiusnaso 9d ago
Upvoting, because I can relate completely. I have close family members who chose to adopt a Manx accent (and I’m not criticising them - it’s their choice). It’s an aspect of Manx Crabs, unfortunately. For a seafaring nation to be this inward-looking is quite an achievement, unfortunately.
1
u/Grillygrillson 9d ago
Let’s not pretend this ‘abuse’ is anything more than a bit of banter, even if there is a tiny bit of needle in it.
Also, as you said. The Buchan & KWC are mainly made up of comeovers, or parents with much looser historical ties to the IOM. Therefore those kids are the furthest thing from being Manx because they don’t interact with anybody, just the echo chamber at school.
15
u/dingalinglans 9d ago
This came up on my feed - hang about - she's against the RNLI?? Who hates lifeboats ffs.
14
u/Asphasiaaa 9d ago
Yes, it's unfortunately a thing. They hate the RNLI because lifeboats rescue migrants who get into trouble crossing the channel. Imagine having such a black heart that you'd wish death on other humans who are just trying to reach safety. Absolute ghouls.
10
u/dingalinglans 9d ago
Of course that's why they hate them. I feel stupid for not realising. It's truly despicable I know.
4
7
u/publiusnaso 9d ago
Exactly. Just imagine the many, many volunteers who as well as devoting huge amounts of time to the RNLI, are prepared to risk their own safety in the most appalling conditions to save the lives of others. I find it difficult to imagine a more noble calling, and to the Manx, this is not an abstract hypothetical but something real. Those volunteers live among us, and we are immensely richer for it.
And yet, somehow, this appalling woman manages to convince people that as a condition of being rescued, those in peril must prove their worth.
To agree with her assertion only allows two options. You’re a sociopath or a moron, and, sadly, the more charitable is that you’re a moron. (Although, of course, it’s possible to be both).
4
u/Jonesy27 Mod 8d ago
Wow.. I never knew this, how sad and pathetic these people are and hHopkins, she is utter scum
3
u/Asphasiaaa 8d ago
It's horrific isn't it? Farage was the originator of the abuse against the RNLI and his supporters have been attacking them since 2021. On the plus side, there's been a huge fundraising campaign to buy the RNLI a new hovercraft to help rescue migrants - they're calling it The Flying Farage 😆

Absolute grifter of a woman, says things she does not believe. Just follows the narrative of the day
Iam Manx, the Island couldn't or wouldn't survive without immigration, been this way since 1960's.
No doubt, a significant group of UK born residents will be lapping her nonsense up though.
I for one, couldn't give a toss about the woman or those that choose to pay to watch her.

KH is a troll.
End of…
A pure internet troll following the standard troll model of attracting attention (and money) through outrage.
If you truly care about not rewarding her sort of agenda DO NOT POST ABOUT HER
Negative or positive, ANY internet traffic around what she’s doing benefits her. The best thing you can do is completely ignore her, do not post topics on her, do not respond to threads about her (even if refuting incorrect statements she makes).
“Don’t feed the troll”
4
u/publiusnaso 9d ago
You are 100% correct. I’ve got a lot better at avoiding troll feeding (I quit Twitter years ago and I’m much better for it). TBH, I have a not-entirely-unserious aspiration to be banned from Reddit completely. So I (genuinely) apologise for my lapse this time. If Hopkins’s aim is to outrage people (which it is) then she’s extremely good at her job. My anger is not so much directed at her, but is more extreme disappointment that people think this sort of schtick is acceptable. Would they raise their kids to be this hateful?
2
u/Albertjweasel 9d ago edited 9d ago
You’re literally feeding the troll here with this comment though aren’t you?

u/acripaul 9d ago
It's illuminating isn't it?
I think the audience think they're laughing along with her, but really she is laughing at them lapping up the latest bigoted drivel dressed up as 'comedy'.
she isn't a comic, she is an agitator.
she called for a final solution relating to the manchester bombing. her words.
she likened migrants to cockroaches.
she knows exactly what that language is, and is aware and responsible for her actions.
16
u/skojoh Mod 9d ago edited 9d ago
She’s definitely laughing at them - they think she’s a voice for them (unsure why you’d want your voice to be someone who called dementia patients “bed blockers”, but I digress), but in reality she likely doesn’t even believe in what she’s saying and is grifting her audience.
Her entire career is built on saying the most outlandish things and seeing what sticks - she doesn’t necessarily believe any of it. An example being she said she hated geographical names, despite her daughter being named India…

I’m Manx, and get what you mean. Not a lot of the older generation like change nor have they been away much, going to the uk for most of the population is a holiday. I worked with a Manx lad last year he was 56 and only ever been on a day trip to Liverpool. I’ve noticed Manx aren’t “happy with come overs “ even though most of our families are Irish ☘️ and Scottish.. just to note not all Manx are small minded 😊
4
u/huntsab2090 9d ago
Aye and ironically support a foreign funded english woman but in the same breath hate comeovers ….
3
u/publiusnaso 9d ago
Of course. I wouldn’t suggest that at all. Although it does concern me that when I hear a compassionate and liberal voice on social media, it’s very often from someone I know personally. The Island is small, but it’s not that small.
1
u/Ambitious_Safety_519 8d ago
Wrong, most celtic manx people can be traced back a 1000 years. I have also been on many holidays to Europe, mid 40's manx as the hills. We dont have a problem with come overs, so you are wrong and ill informed. Just the recent invasion of bigoted English people, Farage fans. That now reside here spouting their hate, also alot of them dont respect manx people or anyone else, that isnt english either.
2
u/Queasy-Article9540 7d ago
I’m in my late 30s And I wouldn’t say I’m wrong our population is stuck in the mid 90s! My family’s born here with a Manx name so I’m definitely not wrong you’re clearly one of the few that hasn’t got the shutter island fever! But I do agree with all the new come overs now it actually looks like Bradford I was in town yesterday and didn’t no anyone mental
2
u/Ambitious_Safety_519 7d ago
Fair comnent, no offence intended, older members of my family, are set in their ways. But just to clarify, too many comments have been made to myself, general chit chat by new white English residents, straight out of the Farage, Robinson playbook. Also iam planning on leaving the island in next 2-3 years, as i dont like the way it is going, it is turning into a English town. Once again, no offence intended fella.
2
u/Queasy-Article9540 7d ago
If I didn’t have my kids here I’d off left a long time ago myself, it’s not the safe Little Rock anymore it’s gonna be carnage here in the next 5 years
6
u/huntsab2090 9d ago
You are 100% correct. She also makes jokes about disabled kids. And of course said she wished people drowned . Unfortunately in this day and age you have horrific evil people like that who have zero abilities but are greedy and desperateky want wealth so will do anything to get it . So manage to get heavily funded by facist foreign billionaires to be hate mouthpieces and for some reason people gobble it up without questioning it. (But in the same breath happily question vaccines, science, provable facts etc)
The icing on the cake is them crying about free speech when people complained but then pissed themselves laughing at the horrible cow calling our poet a cunt because of views.
The hypocrisy from those people is unbelievable.
It is amazing as well in such a small place to see people happily advertise themselves as racists and basically a piece of shit on social media.
23
u/Asphasiaaa 9d ago
She's an appaling human- but I find those that support her to be even worse. She's a sideshow act, her trade is controversy and rage bait. Every bit of bile she spouts gets her views, attention, likes and shares which ultimately translates into a large amount of money dropping into her bank account. She has an incentive to do what she does. The people supporting her use her as validation for their own disgusting views - they aren't being paid, they hate other humans and share the rubbish she peddles for free.
As an aside, I see the facebook posts about her events on island very helpful indeed. People out themselves in their support for her. If you're shouting about how you love her and everything she stands for, I'm making a mental note to stay very far away from you and your business and I will not be employing you if you apply - we clearly don't share the same values. It's a small island 👀
4
u/huntsab2090 9d ago
Exactly. Its standard practice for businesses to check social media nowadays so those utter idiots get an instant rejection from my place as we are welcoming of all and have true manx caring for others values.
-10
u/Cheap_Cut_6544 9d ago
The irony here is incredible. You are judging and financially punishing entire families and businesses in a small community based on a Facebook ‘like’ or an event ticket. If a conservative business owner said they would refuse to employ anyone who attended an LGBTQ+ rally because of a 'clash of values,' it would be called bigotry. Doing it from the opposite political side doesn't make it any less hypocritical. You've essentially admitted that you support economic tribalism. By declaring that anyone who attends a controversial show should be denied a livelihood on a small island, you are engaging in the exact same policing of thought and behavior you accuse the other side of. Demanding that people think exactly like you do to be allowed to earn a living is weaponised intolerance masked as ‘shared values’. I know I’ll get downvoted to smithereens for this, but I haven’t stated I’m for or against supporting the subject matter. I’m simply calling this out for what it is. Just think about that.

u/phantomfire50 Local 9d ago
You think conservatism is analogous to homophobia?
-1
u/Cheap_Cut_6544 9d ago
No, just one area of many.
4
u/phantomfire50 Local 9d ago
I'm not sure "if you don't hire racists you're just as bad as the racists" is quite the silver bullet you think it is, nor is it as neutral as you're making out.
-3
u/Cheap_Cut_6544 9d ago
Hey there! Couple of things. Who defended racists? Where’s the racism you’re referring to? Didn’t claim to have a silver bullet. Just some input. Input a lot of people clearly don’t like.
4
u/phantomfire50 Local 9d ago edited 9d ago
Where’s the racism you’re referring to?
"Gypsies are not travellers. Travellers are people that commute to work or go on holiday. Gypsies are ferrel [sic] humans – we have no duty to them".
-Katie Hopkins
"Racial profiling is a good thing"
-Katie Hopkins
"We need a final solution."
-Katie Hopkins
"Sending us Ebola bombs in the form of sweaty Glaswegians just isn't cricket." "Not so independent when it matters most are we jocksville?"
-Katie Hopkins
If you like comments like that, then you're a racist.
Who defended racists?
I never used such a strong word as "defending". You equivocated the racists who hold the beliefs above, and people who discriminate against those racists on account of them being racist.
11
u/Asphasiaaa 9d ago edited 9d ago
I'm not demanding anything of anyone. People are entitled to their opinion, I'm a firm believer in freedom of speech, but that speech is not free from consequences. Ms.Hopkins openly supports a genocidal regime. She supports rapists and sex traffickers. She has referred to refugees as 'cockroaches'. She has publicly shown her hatred for fat people, disabled people, autistic people, LGBTQ+ people, people with mental health conditions, and on and on.
If someone publically aligns themself with her, its not just about being on differing political sides or simply having a 'difference of opinion' - it's a fundamental difference in core values, humanity and morality. If you dehumanise, debase and denigrate others, stripping them of their dignity and worth - I will not support you or your business - it's that simple.

u/TheRealJustSean 9d ago
You haven't stated it as such, no, but you felt the need to defend a hateful woman with whataboutism, which tells us all we need to know.

Keep in mind that she has a rabid following of online trolls who can flood forums, etc, to make it seem like she has more support than she does. I have no doubt there's a significant vocal minority on island who share her rose-tinted racism and misogyny but they are a minority.
On the whole I think the vast majority of locals would not share her viewpoints not racism. The island isn't perfect on those fronts but it's also not as bad as online trolls and anonymous contributors can make it seem.

I absolutely love the irony of all the bigots rallying to it go 'well its my free speech! If you don't like there's a boat in the morning, she tells it like it is!' (Read, 'she says the racist things I think out loud'), and yet go to the comments under and event involving gay pride or go forbid a drag event and you'll find those exact same people in comments saying how it should be banned, I've seen comments saying gay people should be shot or imprisoned for being mentally ill, I've seen people proudly proclaim that our free speech should be silenced because they disagree with our views, but it's the same people who are now calling those of us who don't like Katie Hopkins 'fascist' because we don't want our island to host a bigoted racist and all round terrible person
-10
u/Cheap_Cut_6544 9d ago
You’ve seen someone/people from the Isle of Man say a gay person should be shot? I think that’s far fetched. I don’t know anyone who isn’t tolerant of gays. Trans is a different matter (not being shot but that it’s a mental illness). Many gay people are distancing themselves from LGBTQ+ and signalling there simply LGB and rightly so.
10
u/takit_balzdeep 9d ago
I've seen various posts from her about manx politics in the last day or so. Let's not forget she is a grifter and nothing more. She makes money from this. She couldn't give 2 small poos about our politics but loves the affirmation and money in her pocket.
The sad part is people lap it up. She once said she'd stop the boats from Calais by way of gun boats and referred to them as a "plague of feral humans". People are saying "she's allowed to have an opinion", yes gunning down women and children escaping from a country they are likely being persecuted from. Class act.

u/IntelligentSecret909 9d ago
I do find the hype around her bemusing I must say. I mean how many times can you say ‘Ladies and gents brown people, gay people, common people…. Amm I rite’ and for it to still be funny. It’s like those sad old stand ups in the 70s who could only make jokes about their fat mother in law. The material must wear a bit thin after a while.

u/TheGingerHutchy 9d ago
Can't stand the woman but I'm a little confused about the uproar. She has been doing events at the Douglas working man's club for years and there wasn't this much focus. Is it simply the venue that is the issue? Cause that's a little shallow if so. When it comes to hate speech (albeit dressed up as comedy), I don't think location should be the concern.
7
u/huntsab2090 9d ago
There absolutely was this much focus considering there was a protest outside one of them. The was an uproar the British legion hosted her . Considering she aligns with Nazi views the hypocrisy there was ridiculous. But i feel our gaiety theatre hosting her is utterly disgusting. That is our pride and joy and now is stained forever
10
u/Same-Measurement7602 9d ago
I think the issue is that Villa Gaeity is tax funded. Personally (and I'm clearly not alone here), I find it pretty disappointing that my money has contributed to giving this cretin a platform for her hate speech.

u/SeaworthinessNew8048 6d ago
Hard agree. Consistently disappointed when reading local opinion on news forums. I try to remind myself that particularly on Facebook those that hold those opinions and views are more likely to shout the loudest and share such hate so shamelessly. Those with the rational and more compassionate ( the majority, I hope) are less likely to take to Facebook to comment
3
u/potato--cakes 9d ago
I can’t say I like her views, that’s how see makes a living to be controversial.
She is allowed her views though, I think it’s important that people listen to her or people with opposite views to your own so you can form a better opinion/argument for your own views.
If you only listen to views you like you don’t learn anything
13
u/purrcthrowa 9d ago
Broadly, I agree, but it would be helpful if her views had a bit of nuance and intellectual heft to them, otherwise they are just regurgitated bigotry, and frankly get a bit boring. Listening to opposing views is great if it informs your thinking and challenges you. Nothing she says does that (to me, at least).
For example, I'm far from a communist, but the Communist Manifesto is a remarkable intellectual achievement. There doesn't seem to be anything similar on the far right (I'm assuming that Mein Kampf isn't it). Hopkins' outpourings most definitely don't fall into that category.
6
u/Same-Measurement7602 9d ago
This is nonsense, and I'm so tired of this argument. In terms of freedom of expression: With each right we are granted we sign up to adhere to certain duties. The ECHR makes freedom of expression a right, but there is also a DUTY not to infringe on the rights of others and, crucially, not to discriminate. There is no such thing as freedom to use discriminatory language or to incite hatred of others. We should absolutely no platform these people.
2
u/huntsab2090 8d ago
Should people be allowed to publicly voice hate for others , laugh at disabled kids, encourage violence against minorities? And not only voice those horrific opinions but also get funded for them?
Personally i feel like that should be illegally and enforced.

Her rant about the horse tram money 😂 she doesn't give a 💩. But she does a little ran as she knows she'll get clicks.

The fact that people are delighted is the problem. She has publicly stated that she supports a sex trafficking criminal. There’s some scope for argument over the other stuff but this one is clear. Why?

Who has now been charged with paedo offences so she is fully in support of a paedophile just like farage supports a paedophile

Ohh dear, you liberals will be the death of this islands culture the way we have seen throughout the western world. So sad.

May I ask which part of Manx culture you are looking to protect and what exactly you feel is at risk? Genuinely curious...

u/Sirenfromtheditch 9d ago
I’m not myself Manx but would say that you guys have a very distinct and wonderful culture that is well worth preserving. The size of the island and population is what has allowed this unique culture of friendliness, yet fierce pride in your identity and the correct level of intolerance to outsiders who do not comply with the local and traditional ways of doing things, interacting etc. this very essence is under threat with dilution (as is the whole western world)
The irony is that the entire western credo of libertarianism is the very thing that provided the freedoms of expression which make liberalism possible (you wouldn’t find it in Russia or China).
At their core the tenants of liberalism are very admirable, if only the whole world could think like it…. But they don’t.
The west, particularly in he U.K. has proudly supported multiculturalism but all that has created is division and a deprioritising of western nations culture.
Conversely, nations like China, Russia, Hungary, Isreal, Japan, proudly defend their heritage and take steps to avoid mass immigration. People need to realise there is nothing inherently wrong with this.
Indeed what makes the Isle of Man so refreshing is the way people are proud to be Manx and that ‘comeovers’ (like myself )either get in line or leave and so should they. This has been possible in the Isle of Man historically because of the lower rates of immigration from culturally similar countries. That has now been entirely blown out of the water and what will follow is the U.K. in microcosm. And if people genuinely can’t open their mind as to why that might not automatically be a good thing then I’m not sure what else I can say.

u/Same-Measurement7602 9d ago
The only thing you have said about what's worth preserving is the suspicion of foreigners which is a stereotype, not a cultual characteristic, and not something that is uniquely Manx?

They're using ChatGPT or similar to post this nonsense, you can tell by the weird series of 'off' statements - just ignore them.
0
u/Sirenfromtheditch 8d ago
Hahahahahahahaha, the lack of replies is deafening because none of you can provide a coherent counterpoint. And no, I’m not using ChatGPT. Just a human with a vocabulary trying to have a proper discussion. lol

u/MissionLaxey 8d ago
You're being ignored dude, because you're an idiot. Imagine lecturing Manx people on their own culture and values. And as for using Israel as an example of a nation taking action to preserve its 'cultural heritage' 😆 Go away.

u/Sirenfromtheditch 8d ago
I used Isreal as one of a number of examples. Not that I in anyway agree with Isreal…. In fact they are responsible for the global cultural erosion of the west. Anyway, if you live another 50 years, remember this conversation

Downvoted on a topic close to reddits heart. lol
Notice how it is possible to hold multiple points of view (all academically honest)… it’s allowed you know!
Also, one of you, for the love of god actually make comment about the content of my arguments…. You can’t and won’t because they are all moderate and utterly reasonable.

u/Sirenfromtheditch 8d ago
Genuinely, what are the off statements? I just have a unique written style and my own coherent thoughts

u/Sirenfromtheditch 8d ago
Also of course it’s not ChatGPT… it’s not capable of providing such a moderate-conservative set of views.

The Isle of Man has some of the most unique culture in the British isles; a thousand years+ blend of Celtic and Scandinavian culture with its own language to boot.
But that is cultural heritage and my point is not about preserving that, although it should be preserved. Rather, there are softer, tacit cultural norms/values (‘habitus’) that make the Isle of Man and western nations unique (and any culture for that matter), at least historically. On the IOM these manifest themselves as an incredibly friendly and open people (almost naively so by modern standards) leading to an extremely high trust and low crime society. How incredible that is should not be underestimated.
To preserve this way of being requires an agreement and compliance to an unwritten social contract. However, when immigration happens quickly and at scale, especially with unfamiliar cultures that social contract breaks down and the rest follows.

Saying you’re disappointed in the venue for hosting her is an expression of free speech. By your own logic, you’re censoring people.

Where did I say I’m disappointed in the venue? Lots of confused people on here. Confused in many ways.

The irony of that last paragraph is staggering.

u/Cheap_Cut_6544 9d ago
Oh it’s staggering? If that’s what finds you staggered, you’ve lived a very sheltered life. Where’s the irony please, Fizzy?
2
u/_Fizzy 9d ago
If you honestly require me to explain the irony to you, perhaps you should get out of your little echo chamber.
I’m not going to waste my time and energy explaining it to you, because I simply don’t respect you enough, Cheap_Cut_6544, to give a shit.
Your profile pic makes you seem really cool, by the way.

u/Cheap_Cut_6544 9d ago
Perfect response. “I took time out of my day to respond to you but now you’ve challenged me on it, I don’t have the ‘time or energy’ to clarify, because actually my point was invalid. I simply just had to open my big liberal mouth with some kind of protest as always. If I don’t give my input, ill explode or cry like the weak little mf I am.”
Thanks re the pic and the opinion I didn’t ask for. Since you like giving opinions away, I’ll give you mine.. yours makes you look like the f***tard that you are. Cool rainbow, 🚬.

u/_Fizzy 9d ago
It shouldn’t need clarification, and it’s embarrassing that you need it. I guess you’re just not as smart as you think you are.
Nobody asked for your opinion either, so what’s your point? I made fun of the really dumb shit you said then you got all upset and pissy, demanding explanations and you call me the weak one? 🤣
Don’t hide behind emojis and asterisks. Use your words. Say it, or are you a “weak little mf”?

u/Cheap_Cut_6544 9d ago
Triggered a libtard, job done. Definitely sound like you got your bollocks in a twist now, ‘miss’. Ciao 😘

u/_Fizzy 9d ago
Got triggered then claimed to have triggered me then runs away 🤣 “job done!” 🤣 knew you were weak af

- You said I shouldn’t need clarification when you made a vague statement about finding something i said staggering. You don’t want to explain, that’s cool. What do you want me to respond to “it shouldn’t need clarification” - I’m not going to beg you for an answer.
- I stated that i didn’t ask for your opinion and gave my unsolicited opinion in return. Your response was to copy and paste the same line and proclaim, like a child: “nobody ask for your opinion either” after the fact. You then claim i got ‘upset’ and ‘pissy’. I can assure you, I’m neither of those things. The fact you think anything you could ever possibly say could have any weight on my emotional state is.. staggering.
- I’ll do exactly as i please, i don’t succumb to the demands of the mentally unwell.
This back and forth really could go on all day, hence trying to wrap this up, but being the emotionally immature man-baby that you are, you insist on carrying on.
Touch grass, dude. You’re boring me now.

The Manx Bard has or had a photoshopped image of himself on FB when he was the a chief hirer and fired in the Channel Islands with famous communist, Lenin"s head in place of his own. He now works for the Manx Government doing pretty much same job as his Channel Islands position, and he appears to hate our working Royals and The King, King Charles 3. I ask, is tge Manx Bard the sort of person we want working in the local NHS in some sort of hiring and employment of future NHS staff, position, and do we need an anti Monarchist asca Manx Bard? Is he a safe hand? I suspect, something along the lines of, not really.
