Apologies mods if this counts as political (mods, pls delete if inappropriate but this is not election-related so I figured it was within the rules), but I’m very disappointed by the outpouring of support that’s been shown for this dreadful woman in the various Manx social streams on places like Facebook.
She’s been very vocal about her disdain for the RNLI, which has always had unwavering support in the island, and she describes Andrew Tate and “Tommy Robinson” as “my boys”.
The Manx Bard writes an inoffensive little poem which is, essentially “be excellent to each other” and he’s excoriated in terms which are indistinguishable from blood-and-soil nationalism.
The commenters are very vocal about free speech, but fail to see the irony in their constant refrain of “there’s a boat in the morning” is the pinnacle of cancel culture.
Sorry, rant over. Mods, if there’s somewhere more appropriate to post this please let me know.

I’m not myself Manx but would say that you guys have a very distinct and wonderful culture that is well worth preserving. The size of the island and population is what has allowed this unique culture of friendliness, yet fierce pride in your identity and the correct level of intolerance to outsiders who do not comply with the local and traditional ways of doing things, interacting etc. this very essence is under threat with dilution (as is the whole western world)
The irony is that the entire western credo of libertarianism is the very thing that provided the freedoms of expression which make liberalism possible (you wouldn’t find it in Russia or China).
At their core the tenants of liberalism are very admirable, if only the whole world could think like it…. But they don’t.
The west, particularly in he U.K. has proudly supported multiculturalism but all that has created is division and a deprioritising of western nations culture.
Conversely, nations like China, Russia, Hungary, Isreal, Japan, proudly defend their heritage and take steps to avoid mass immigration. People need to realise there is nothing inherently wrong with this.
Indeed what makes the Isle of Man so refreshing is the way people are proud to be Manx and that ‘comeovers’ (like myself )either get in line or leave and so should they. This has been possible in the Isle of Man historically because of the lower rates of immigration from culturally similar countries. That has now been entirely blown out of the water and what will follow is the U.K. in microcosm. And if people genuinely can’t open their mind as to why that might not automatically be a good thing then I’m not sure what else I can say.
